Re: marrying "up"

There seems to be an unspoken agreement as to which way's up.
Would someone care to enumerate "the" list in some order? Is
the key income, occupation, or ????

The proverbial mother's list I know is based on occupation
ordered by median income (but lawyer's have taken quite a
beating in the past few years). Therefore MD's are on top
and one should prefer a poor MD to a rich anyone else.

That's as far as I'm willing to go. Still, if I believed in
"the list", that's not the one I'd use. I've seen MD
precursors, and it's not pretty.  (No smiley face here;
I'm not getting sick. Stanford pre-med's are supposed
to be above average; there are 2% that I'd trust to check
the oil.)

What kind of relationship does one have with a "up"?
