They were reasonably quiet, started quickly, and had plenty of torque for slipping. I haven't seen any direct drive turntables with anywhere near the torque that is needed for broadcast disk jockey use. However, it seems to me that there isn't too much audible difference in turntables once you get past $150 or so until you get the Nak with the automatic centering.
