If you are flying a standard 3 degree ILS glide slope, your
glide ratio is 20:1.  Thus you would lose one mile in 20,
or about 6000 feet if it's 20 NM.  Therefore, it takes a
SHALLOW approach to lose 3500' in 20 miles.
