Rob Warnock asked:
Anybody got any useful (i.e., current) cost numbers on a 2000 mile T-1
circuit, for comparison? It would be interesting to compare both land lines
and satellite circuits vis-a-vis the station wagon or parcel delivery.

You asked for it, you got it!

I will assume the 2000-miles are between the two AT&T Communications
Serving Office, with another 3 miles on either end to get from the
SOs to the end location. I further assume that the T-1 will
terminate in host computers, rather than a switch, to avoid the
$36.25 per channel per end surcharge. Without going into details (which
are available on request), that 2000-mile T-1 circuit will run you
2*(452.9+3*34.13+21)+1400+26*2000+2*81 = $54,714.58 per month.

T-1s tend to prove in for distances significantly less than 2000 miles.

Who do I send my bill for consultant fees to?
