What's wrong with extending your range of behaviors? Suppose that I am
selfish, cold and inconsiderate. Should I not try to become more friendly,
warm and considerate, on the grounds that I would no no longer be
acting like "myself"? Nonsense! No matter what I do, I cannot stop
being myself. What I CAN do is choose to cultivate repressed and
undeveloped aspects of my personality.

By the way, in her book, "The Truth About What Women Want in Men,"
Susan Eno (I think that's her name) says that women want a man who
is hard, tough, competitive and macho in PUBLIC, but sensitive and
vulnerable in PRIVATE.
