I have been informed that the ladybug is in fact the state insect of New Hampshire. As I myself am none too fond of the praying mantis (the ability to turn its head completely around notwithstanding), I felt it would be interesting to solicit from the net some better candidates for this (somewhat dubious) honor. Thus, I am opening my mailbox to the net for anyone who wants to make a nomination. Anyone can send me a nomination; you don't have to be a resident of New York State or even of this country. But, please, send only the names of real insects, and try to keep it to bugs you think wouold be found in a state like New York (e.g., household cockroach, mosquito, etc.), not bizarre species like the giant dung beetle (actually, with all the cattle upstate, that could be a candidate). I will post the results of this solicitation in a few weeks. Thanks in advance, -- Henry J. Neeman (ughenry@buffalo) "Well, no, we don't have _Rarnaby_Budge_ by Charles Dikkens with two k's the famous Dutch author, and perhaps to save time I should add that we don't have _Carnaby_Fudge_ by Darles Chickens, or _Farnbarous_Snudge_ by Miles Pickens or even _Stickwick_Stapers_ by Tharles Wickens with four "m"'s and a silent "q"! Why don't you try W. H. Smith's!" "I did. They sent me here." "Did they."
