I have seen just plain '\' used for the quote character, which fits
nicely with the shell and the standard 'C' convention. I have also used
M-/ as the forward search command, for (god-forbid) compatibility for
vi users.  Since I can't easily explain why 'search' isn't ctrl-s, using
something standard for something seemed appropriate.
