I'm not sure whether the ants consume the crystals and die or if the ants just don't like the crystals and move on. (I was told by my neighbor that the ants carry the crystals back to their "home" and it kills them there.) However, I have used the crystals to get rid of some black ants which had made a home in my strawberry patch and they disappeared. My mother used to use household powdered cleanser like Comet or Ajax to rid ants from coming into the house. She would just spread it on the step in front of the door where they were coming in. My neighbor uses Diazinon which comes in a liquid or crystal form. This is a type of insecticide so you really must be careful how you use it. GOOD LUCK! Bonnie Britton AT&T-IS DR
