Some people take pleasure in knowing answers, and some in knowing _more_
answers than the other guy.  Either way will show.  So will any other
motivations.

One factor is talking style.  If you tend to talk for 30 seconds or
longer at a stretch, without letting the other fellow speak, that's
a discourtesy.  (Caveat: some people I know who lecture for a living
are nevertheless good company in private!)
