If you had watched the program at all, you might have noticed that the money was not intended to be used only for short term projects, but that the need for long term solutions was emphasised over and over. Proposals included irrigation projects, development of communication networks (roads), education, and so on. I agree with you that charity is usually a fad for most people and I have my doubts about whether Live Aid will be able to accomplish anything of any lasting value, but they are trying hard and seem to be headed in the right direction. They also seem to have been able to raise enough money to be actually able to do something that might make a difference. -- Sophie Quigley {allegra|decvax|ihnp4|linus|watmath}!utzoo!mnetor!sophie
