I don't know about the "only sane places" but certainly these are close
to the Medical Center area and pleasant.

Well, actually, the entire West University Place area, also South Side Place,
the chunk of Bellaire east of Loop 610 West, and the west end of Montrose
where you sort of slop over into south River Oaks.... Or basically the area
bounded by Kirby(E), Bellaire Blvd.(S), Westheimer(N), and 610 West(W).

The prices in this area are VERY variable.
