Some time ago someone from Sweden started a discussion by asking "What is Greenpeace and what does it do?". Well after this week's events I don't think many
people will need to ask. Those B****s who planted the bomb (two landmines
according to current reports) on the Greenpeace ship have put Greenpeace on the
front page of the World's press in a way no amount of Greenpeace's own direct
but non-violent protests have done - but they also killed a member of a group
dedicated to non-violence, and sunk the ship that has been doing so much to
bring attention to major world environment issues such as extermination of
whales by over-hunting, killing of young seals, damage to the seas and coasts
by dumping of nuclear and other waste, the fate of people still affected by
the USA H-bomb tests of 20-30 years ago (in particular carrying an island-full
of people to a new, non-radioactive island, an action that the offical
governments of the world have been unable to carry out for 20 years),
the aftermath of the British A-bomb tests in Australia, and now (again)
protesting against continuing French nuclear bomb tests in the Pacific.

According to the press Greenpeace were not able to have full insurance on their
ship - so how about the Net doing something to help raise the money for repairs/
replacement? Would someone who is or knows a member of Greenpeace find out
more about their plans, put a better-informed item than this on the net, and
tell us a secure way to make donations to the repairs. By 'secure' I mean
something like a well-known bank that would accept such donations and ensure
that they get to Greenpeace, not just "Post to Fred".
