Consumer Reports did a piece on the Toyota Vs the Subaru a few months ago.
In general, they favored the Toyota in both quality, performance, and
reliability. My own experience (My Dad has the Toyota, I have a Subaru,
and I've driven both) says the Subaru is tops on all fronts. My Dad
says he has bought his last Toyota. The Subaru is nicer looking (I think)
more solid, more fun to drive, and, to compare the two cars, better built.
The Toyota seems more powerful (although the Turbo Subaru may be more
powerful, still) shifts easier, and has the 5-speed.

I've been a Subaru fan for years. My family, so far, has owned 6.
