Can someone suggest a good reference for numerical approximations of
transcendental functions such as exp() and log()?  I have looked at the
source code of zillions of library functions of varying quality, but
would like to have a better theoretical grasp of what's going on.  Something
that takes into account the numerical properties of real computers floating
point would be nice.
