It seems like learning any block-structured language would be much better for anyone. FORTRAN can always be learned when it is direly needed. It is good to see someone who recognizes the usefulness of of calculus. Yes, one generally does have to look hard to find direct uses of calculus at work, but it can be done! Don't despair!!
