Let's also not forget the excellent 1956 film *The King and I*, starring
Yul Brynner and (I think) Deborah Kerr.  Though Deborah Kerr (?) did not
sing her part, and the producers saw it fit to make the story a little
more sappy (in particular, the invisible chorus singing "Something Wonderful"
when the King died), it is still a fine production, and Brynner is
incredible.
