I have always looked forward to the first snowfall of the
year. It's a great equalized. With a thin layer of snow on
the ground - my lawn looks just as good as my neighbors.

And, I am still waiting for a varity of grass that will grow
to a fixed height of 2-4 inches. Think what that will do to
the lawn industry. BTW-does anyone else think there is a
conspiracy to keep such a grass from being developed and/or
marketed ?

Astro-turf is a common solution to the postage-stamp back
lawns of the many rowhomes in this area. Haven't seen it on
large front lawns, yet. I suggested the idea to my wife
once. Once was enough --- maybe her reaction was coupled
with the suggestion of plastic flowers in her flower beds,
too.

As you have probably guessed - I'm not big on lawn care. I
do it - mowing, trimming, edging - but, it's not my favorate
outdoor activity. And, I collect most of the grass
clippings for mulch in the vegetable garden and for making
compost. Therefore, I cannot use poisons on my lawn and,
therefore, I have some plants other than grass growing on my
lawn. However, it occured to me (a long time ago) that
so-called weeds are green. And, from across the street, it
is difficult to tell 'weeds' from grass. Anyway, the
presence of a few weeds seems to keep my neighbors happy -
knowing their lawns are better than mine (while they enjoy
all the free veggies I give them).
