Let's not forget Keith Laumers Lafayette O'Leary stories.  I think the first
was called _The Time Bender_.  I found them very enjoyable (I haven't yet dared
read the latest in the series, given the unreleived badness of Laumer's recent
work - what has happened to this  guy?  (Laumer, not O'Leary)).
