A few issues back in the Review of International Broadcasting
an article set out a simple and elegant modification to the
ICOM R71A which would convert the PBT (actually a variable width
filter scheme) into true passband tuning. Does anyone know of
a way to do this for the R70? Or does anyone remember seeing
any articles on this? Is there any reason to believe that designs
of the two radios are such that it should be equally easy to
do this?

Thanks

Richard Shapiro

p.s. Thanks to Bob Parnass for pointing out that the R70 does
not suffer from the battery-backed RAM problem which afflicts
the R71A.
