("Sort of interpretive" means: "I haven't actually used it, but I think I remember that" and also "They admit it's not blindingly fast, but it also real cheap" It is supposed to be full K&R (presumably no extensions?), and it's very fast for syntax checking, even of the stuff it produces doesn't run very fast.
