I saw the movie "Purple Rain" in a theatre last year and on Cinemax
last night. At the end of the "When Doves Cry" sequence, Prince pulls
his motorcycle over to the curb where his mother is sitting, her back
to the viewer, and asks what's wrong. The way I remember the movie,
he lifts here head, sees that she's been battered, and storms into the
house after his father. In last night's showing, he just storms into
the house. Does anyone remember if the first scenario did exist in the
original release? If so, why did Cinemax cut it?

BTW, for those who argued that this movie was a two hour video, you are,
in my humble opinion, dead wrong. The only "video" in the whole movie is
the "When Doves Cry" sequence. If you doubt that, I suggest you view
"Cabaret" or "All that Jazz". I will admit though that they did over use
the spinning-rear-wheel-of-a-motorcycle shot.
