I think Ross was stating that in general women, the ones being
sought after (despite the degree of liberation we have now), have
the option of several men whereas men may have few women to choose from.
Yeah, I know, I know. Men have the option of asking many women out, but
that gets expensive and the potential for rejection is a deterrent.
Yeah, I know, I know. There are exceptions to the rule, but if you've
ever sampled how many men have asked out a certain women vs. how many
women a certain man has asked out (in a given time period), you should
see (in general) a trend. This is also reflected in personals placed
in periodicals. Women get ~70 replies for a man's ~8 (samples: Big Ten
school paper and a state-wide singles' mag.).

I think Ross was half complaining about the ease of which a woman can
get a man than vice-versa. Again, this is not always the case...

My stand is: women may have an easier time of getting a man interested
in them then a man does with a woman, but women are burdened with a
variety of things (dating roles, society's roles, etc.) that men are
virtually free from. Some say the scale is then even.. I say it is
still tipped in favor of men, so: no room for complaints! Fortunately,
things ARE still changing: role playing is going down the tubes, eq-
uality in situation/opportunities is on the increase. I was very fortunate
as to have a nice young lady ask me out to a movie recently. I would
have gotten around to it (or was it a matter of mustering the courage?),
but she took the initiative. She just better not have any wild ideas
just because we went to a movie. We all know what octopusses women can
be... ;->
