I'm wondering how many calculus lovers out there have jobs where they're
required to _use_ calculus. My math education includes algebra, geometry,
trigonometry, and fairly advanced statistics. In over 5 years of
programming both business and scientific applications I've needed the
trigonometry once (and could have got by without it). Beyond that I've
never needed more than the simplest, most basic principles of algebra to
get my work done. Most of the people I know who've been required to study
calculus for their degrees tell me they've _never used it since college_.

Given the above, what is the justification for forcing _everyone_ to study
calculus?
