Message-ID: <9114@ucbvax.ARPA> Date: Wed, 17-Jul-85 02:16:05 EDT Article-I.D.: ucbvax.9114 Posted: Wed Jul 17 02:16:05 1985 Date-Received: Thu, 18-Jul-85 06:24:22 EDT Sender: daemon@ucbvax.ARPA Organization: University of California at Berkeley Lines: 26 From: Jon L. SpearWe (Air Force Weapons Lab) have an IMP with only a PDP 11/50 that can sometimes be depended upon to run FTP, but would like to improve the situation by connecting a VAX/VMS machine to the IMP. This 780 will be the gateway to MILNET for a local network that we are trying to implement very soon (broadband backbone with Ethernet subnets). My questions: 1) What is the recommended way to physically connect a 780 to MILNET? 2) I have heard that VAX/VMS TCP/IP can be bought from Wollengong or gotten from Tektronix and one other place who's name escapes me for minimal cost (with minimal support). Is there a recommended software package for TCP/IP? 3) What is the policy (current and anticipated) for X.25 connections to MILNET/ARPANET, and should this be considered for our VAX? (Please reply directly to me as I am not (yet) on the mailing list) Thanks, Jon --- Capt Jon Spear JSpear@MIT-MC AFWL/NTCTS Kirtland AFB, NM 87117-6008 (505)846-0582, av246-0582
