During the times I was at both college and graduate school both schools had
problems with rape. In both cases the problems had been there for several
years and I believe they are still there. In Princeton women organized and
protested by assembling at night and marching across campus to "Take Back
the Night." At each school the 5-6 reported rapes each year appeared to be
due to at most 2-3 individuals, yet only 2 rapists were apprehended in the
7 years I spent at these campuses, and in each case it had a small to nil
effect on the number of rapes on and near campus. While rape may be an
an extension of classical male attitudes towards women, I don't really believe
that. I think these people were really sick puppies. One man ran a woman
down with his car (she was on a bicycle), claimed he hadn't seen her, offered
to drive her to the hospital, put her in his car, raped her, and dumped her
by the side of the road. It is really aggravating and frustrating to see ones
friends frightend into extremely restricted lifestyles at a time when their
minds are expanding because of the presence of a couple of sickos. What is
effective defense/treatment/progress/etc for problems like these?
