I tried the WSI phone wx brieving. They have a free 10 minute
introductory service, so anyone can try it out. I was disappointed.
It's expensive, and you must go through a more or less canned speech.
Just call flight service, for free, and get a better briefing. In LA
it can be impossible to get through to flight service, but there are
always smaller stations, a cheap call away, that are happy to talk to
you. WSI is expensive and not very useful. And you'll still need to
call flight service to file flight plans. Also, you should ALWAYS
call flight service anyhow--the accident report looks better when it
indicates you got a thorough wx briefing!
