There are lists that will tell you how many diapers, undershirts, gowns,
etc. to have. If you think about them in terms of how fast the baby will
grow and how often you want to/will do laundry, you can determine how many
you will need. There are some items that will become critical when you need
them, although they will not be used on a daily basis. Be sure to have a
cool-mist humidifier and a rectal thermometer. If you are planning on using
disposable diapers, buy a box of the cloth diapers that have extra padding in
the middle; these are great for putting on your shoulder for burping and wiping
up if the baby spits up. Keep some Desitin and some Ammen's medicated powder
around also; sometimes one works if the other doesn't on a raw bottom (my
daughter's disposition didn't change when her teeth came in, but her bottom
would look like a battlefield...)

Hope this helps.
