Try a cork scratching post, and teach the cat what it is for We had our kitten declawed at 6 months and she led a very happy 18 year lifespan. She didn't seem to remember that she even had front claws. She also "INSTINCTIVELY" exercised her front paws on the furniture in scratching motions quite often. Thereby satisfying her "pseudo-emotional needs" quite nicely, thank you. The scratching instinct is not dependent on the presence of claws.
