I remember sitting in a small cafe/restaurant in Bangor, Maine some
time last year, when these two kids (maybe 14 or 15) sat down near me
and had a hot dog. Not long after that, they each pulled out large
cigars and started to puff on them, for godonlyknows what reason. I
hate cigars. I also hate Illinois Nazis, but that is something else.
Anyway, after about 4-5 minutes of this obnoxiousness, I finally
turned to the kids and said, "Hey--why don't you put those goddamned
things out--they smell like shit!" (which they did). I was 23 at the
time, and I'm not entirely sure why they listened to me, but they
both put out the cigars, sat foolishly for a minute or two, then
left. I don't normally do things like that, but I'm glad I did. I
have enough of a problem with somebody smoking cigars that actually
likes them, but a couple of kids who were doing it only to impress
each other was too much for me. Goddamned kids. Kids these days.
Grumble. Cough.
