I think you have stumbled upon the answer here. The main group of males
that found me intimidating were punks, I mean the hardcore type musically.
I used to hang around with lots of punks, most of the boys being in local
bands (boys, not men -- mostly around 18-19 at the time). I was known to
make moves on MOTAS (my 2 girlfriends sort of spread this info to their male
friends about my wanton desires and previous actions.) Anyway, I soon found
most of them avoiding me before I even had a chance to offend any of them.
Maybe they were just too cool for me.

Now I hang around with a strictly hacker crowd, and I am much more popular
with these men, in fact I must admit they are mostly all quite fond of me.
What with the poor male/female ratio in engineering departments, I am often
the only female in the bunch. I am sort of the SO of the whole group,
meaning I go places with them all and we are very close. I hope this
doesn't sound too kinky.

I might add that I have a loved SO whom I live with, and I also am close
to some of his friends, who have no MOTAS and appreciate hugs from me. In
fact, although I am quite ordinary looking, if I could clone myself I could
make lots of $$$$ selling my clones to all these wonderful, lonely men I
know. (I think that there is indeed a shortage of available women!) So I
know I don't intimidate some men, although some of the ones that like me
might think I am "safe" because I do have a loved one of my own. I will
change my statement to saying I am QUITE aggressive instead of somewhat,
but as the men I know become older they seem to appreciate it more. I will
also admit that the men who don't like forward women are usually what I
consider dumb jerks, so it's just as well if I offend them.
