it's easy to do this; set your environment variable EDITOR to vi before
entering your news reader (readnews or vnews I know, probably rn, too)
e.g. setenv EDITOR vi in the c shell or EDITOR=vi;export EDITOR in the
Bourne shell... then when you come across an article you want to quote
and follow up first save it in a file, then get into followup mode (invokes
your EDITOR, in this case vi, on a temp file containing a header for your
reply, and puts you in it), open up a blank line or two at the bottom, then
hit escape, position your cursor there if it is not already there, and

:!!cat name_of_saved_file

which replaces that line with the contents of your saved file. To put the
quote brackets to the left of the article, now do

:.,$s/^/>

which puts a '>' in front of each line from the line the cursor is on to the
last line. Then you can edit the dragged-in article any way you like, and add
your words of wisdom.

Maybe there are other ways... Sorry, net.singles, if this is irrelevant,
but I think everyone should know how to drag in a quote (and edit it down!)
for praise or flames....
