I am trying to log into an IBM mainframe from an isolated location
over a dial-in line. I need the capabilities of a 3270 type terminal,
yet I don't want to spend lots of money on a terminal AND an n-port
3274 type controller. Someone suggested using a PC instead. Has
anyone used the 3270 emulation capabilities of a PC? I have these
specific questions:

1- Does the PC emulate just a 3270 type terminal (so I will need a PC,
   a controller, and a modem), or a terminal and a 3274 type
controller (so all I need is a PC and a modem)?
2- Do I need a PC 3270, or adding a card and some software to a plain
   old PC will do?
3- Does it work on an AT&T PC 6300?
4- Anything else you can tell a UN*X jock who is a stranger to both
the PC world and the IBM mainframe world.

   Thanx in Advanx.
