Chicago - Computation Center Lines: 22 After having found net.emacs I have watched the GNU copyright discussion fly past my terminal; I now have my two cents to throw in. --FLAME-ON-- The display code in EMACS needs to be rewriten to allow of the display of Non-ASCII characters. Say the troff set. Now a little background. In the past I (and others) have tried to convert the non-programming people here to EMACS. We have failed for a number of reasons, but the _biggie_ was the display and editing of non-roman characters. I looked long and carefully at the TOPS-20 EMACS manuals and could not find a hook that I could use to switch display fonts. (I did find DISPLAY OVERPRINTING, but I didn't think that was all that I needed.) I looked again when we got Gosling EMACS with our UNIX machine and I found some references to spacial code for the SUN display, but I could not figure-out if I could use it on terminals like the HP26XX series, MacTerminal, and the HDS200 series.
