My son (3 yrs old) just started going to pre-school after being
with baby sitters since he was 6 months old. He had visited the pre-
school several times prior to attending when I would pick up his older
sister and he was always excited about the equipment that was there to
play on. Three months before he started pre-school he was not potty
trained and we told him once that he had to be potty trained before he
could go there. After that he was potty trained within a month more or
less on his own.

The point being to all this is that we found a way to motivate
him to want to be potty trained. We did not, however, stress the need
to be trained prior to going to pre-school, but just mentioned it once or
twice to him. His sister started pre-school when she was 2 while still not
potty trained. We did not have a motivating factor for her when she was
ready to be trained since she was already in pre-school. Subsequently we
had more problems with getting her trained than we did with our son.
