I don't know about the future, but it sure would be nice if the Mac
supported multiple concurrent tasks.  That's one of the big advantages of
Unix.  A utility similar to 'at' on Unix for delayed unattended execution
would sure be nice, also.  That's what I want for Christmas (as well as a
hard disk).
