/* ---------- "pc-dos 3.1" ---------- */
I just tried to bring PC-DOS 3.1 up on my AT. ...
I keep getting an error that there is not enough room on the system disk
to bring the system up. This has to be a crock, I deleted until I had at
least a meg of space. Does anybody have a fix so that I can update?

    i think what DOS is complaining about is the occupation of the special
directory slots reserved for ibmbio.com and ibmdos.com. for example, if you:
	format a:/v ;volume label in root directory
	sys a: ;slot where ibmbio.com belongs
you'll get the same error message. on the other hand,
	format a:/s
	sys a:
doesn't complain; i wonder if versions are being compared? anyhow, you
could try using the CHMOD syscall to remove the readonly/hidden/system
attributes from ibmbio.com and ibmdos.com so you can delete them and
re-install from your 3.1 disk.
    on a related note, one of my colleagues wanted to "sample" 3.1, so he
installed "borrowed" copies of ibm???.com and command.com on his XT.
thereafter, his old command.com and chkdsk.com (from DOS 2.11?) would abort
with a "wrong version of DOS" message.
