I presume this question was directed at me; for the record:

No, I don't have a home system; I have no use for one.  Since I do have no
use for one, the question of what I'd really be able to buy and what
software it'd run is irrelevant.  At work, however, I'm quite glad I have a
machine which supports multiple tasks.  The original poster seemed to think
that multi-tasking in a workstation was of little use; I was pointing out
that this is false.  Multi-tasking will increase the cost of your
workstation (if not in hardware, then in software complexity).  It's not
worth the money to some people.  It is worth the money to others.  A general
statement that it's unnecessary is silly.
