Just thought I would add a few of my favorites (off the top of my head). Although I am certainly *no* expert. 1. Orson Scott Card, "Unaccompanied Sonata" (One of few to make me cry, and only one to make me cry every time I reread it.) 2. Alan Dean Foster, "With Friends Like These" (My favorite "Humans are the best and can do anything" story) 3. George Alec Effinger, "At the Bran Foundry" (Just great.) 4. R.A. Lafferty, "Days of Grass, Days of Straw" (ditto). For older stories, I recommend The_Science_Fiction_Hall_Of_Fame, Vol. One, edited by Robert Silverberg. More generally, (in *my* book) anything by George Alec Effinger or R. A. Lafferty. In fact, I have tried to get my hands on as much of their stuff as possible (I recommend Nine_Hundred_Grandmothers for Lafferty's stories.), but I would be in debt to anyone who could lead me to a comprehensive list of stories/novels by these two authors.
