I received some information from Sony about the CD-ROM's.

Sony CDU-1 CD ROM Drive Unit -

There is an optional AC power adapter that supplies all the correct voltages.

Complete with descramble, sync detection, header check and error correction.
No controller needed. Built in exactly the same size as a 5" floppdisk drive
unit.

The data base you have built up can readily be transformed into CD ROM's.
You send 1/2" recorded tapes to Sony and they add all necessary subcodes
and error correction codes as well as sync and header signals.

Apparently these will be $300 in quantity.
