Note that the proposed California law specifically mentions that individuals would take responsibility for their own material. This implies that the people submitting messages can be identified in some way, at least by the BBS operator (even if real names aren't posted on messages). And I think this is as it should be. As Brad said, there are definite restrictions on the sort of material that the print and broadcast media can put forth without knowing who submitted it! It would be extremely unlikely that BBS's would be granted more latitude in this area than the other information technologies already possess. --Lauren--
