GE also makes a surge protector suitable for connecting to a 120/240 v single
phase residential service entrance.  It is self-contained with a conduit
nipple, and is attached to a knockout hole in the service entrance panel
by the main switch (I don't remember the catalog number but any electrical
supply house should be able to get it (or an equivalent made by a competitor)
for you).
