I have brought up VMS 4.0 on our 780 and the DIALOUT lines no longer
work.

We use Racal-Vadic VA212 autodial modems attached to DZ11's.

The terminals settings on these DZs are:

 $Set term ttxy:/Perm/Speed=1200/Modem/Hangup/Hostsynch/Altypeahd

The program that controls the dialer also sets PASSALL and NOECHO.

The modem goes into its command mode when send a CONTROL-E RETURN
(ASCII 5, ASCII 13). This it does fine. All subsequent commands to
the modem fail. Modem says "Illegal Command". When the modem is plugged
into a terminal (ie the LA120 console) directly, all works fine.
Sample session:

			<-- ^E cr typed
HELLO I'M READY
*d <-- "d" (for "DIAL") typed
ILLEGAL COMMAND
*

This situation is the same with 3 modem control programs: VAXDIAL,
KERMIT and "SET HOST /DTE". The last being the new DEC program part
of V4.0.

I have tried varying most terminal settings, i.e. PARITY, EIGHTBIT,
FALLBACK etc. to no avail.

Any ideas (we need this to work real soon). Anyone running dialout
lines on VMS V4.0? What ternminal settings? What program?

I'm now going to try 2 more things: try VAXNET program, and try plugging
into DMF32.

Any ideas that it is something other than the terminal settings?
Any straw will be willingly grasped at.

Thanks
