While this book may not raise squeals of delight from culinary artists (real or imagined) it is a complete generic reference. The recipes are sound, if unexciting; they provide a good departure point for experimentation. I think it is a good "first cookbook". Our copy (11th printing, 1972) is dog-eared and beat up.
