ELXSI did that in Embos, their own operating system, philosphically Unix-based
(much as Algol 68 was ALgol 60-based).  There is one general name service that
covers Files, Devices, even System calls.  Thus there is one general protection
mechanism that covers them all, etc.  A very clean effect.

[Of course their Ads are still filled with Vapourware and Marketing's idea of
benchmarks, but they are a fairly new company so I can expect them to even
behave up to DEC's standards.(;-))]
