I also own a 680ZX and a 4 channel dbx 124.  The method of head
alignment is indeed unique (and better), but I beleive that all
Nakamichis have a slightly non-standard playback equalization
with a kick-up in the high end.  Tapes made on other machines
sound slightly bright.
