I seem to recall that Gigantor had one lever and a similar looking nob
from which the controlling radio waves emitted.  Did you ever notice, 
however, that the boy always shouted what he wanted Gigantor to do while
frantically pumping the lever?  I'd like to suggest that this was the 
first example of an artificially intelligent, voice recognition system.
The box was probably just a radio with a special signal scrambling unit.
What a technological accomplishment!
