[ Token homage to the line-eater]

For me, the dividing line between girl and woman came when
I started supporting myself. While I was an undergrad, I paid
for a lot of my own expenses, but my parents were always willing to mail
a check to pay for tuition and other things, if I didn't have the money.
Once I stopped being a 'dependent', I stopped feeling uncomfortable about
being referred to as a woman.
