[Let's hear it for net.music.synth -- this group was a great idea]

I just thought I would pass this on...My local music salesman,
whose eyes are still gleaming from the commission on my DX7, called
me and said I should drop by and see the latest DX7 gadget. What I saw
was a (approximately) 9" high rack mount box called the TX816. It is
essentially a backplane that can accept up to eight plug-in boxes, each
of which is a DX7 in its own right. There is no keyboard, naturally, or
any other interface hardware except the MIDI port. The idea is that you
plug it into your DX7, and voila! eight more DX7's! Apparently, one still
needs one DX7 (or a well programmed computer) to program the whole mess.
If I weren't broke, I think I might will buy one...imagine, eight independant
DX7's in a single rack mount box.
As far as prices are concerned, I was quoted "about $2000" for the
box, and two of the plug-in's. Additional modules are $550.
