incidentally, uwisc is the arpa name for uwvax.  other machines do the
same thing:  umcp-cs == maryland, bostonu == bu-cs, suny-sb == sbcs.
(i think i have the last two right.)  this seems a consummately stupid
thing to do, and messes up pathalias, since the host name depends on
the route.

i'll never understand why people do things this way.
