I think that what is more important is that the people communicating have
the same standard of values -- at least to a very large degree. This is
tough when your values are changing, of course. Otherwise too many
misunderstandings will occur  because you do not mean the same things
by the same words.

Larry Bickford (hey! where is Larry these days anyway?) had this discussion
in mail once. One tentative conclusion was that it was tough  being a
fundamentalist Christian (because so many people disagreed with you) but
that once you found another one to go out with things were better because
of the overwhelming joy in finding communication that went somewhere. I'm
not a Christian, but can sure appreciate that feeling.
