Under CA law, it is illegal to have open alcoholic beverage containers in the car, whether the driver is drinking or not. The driver can be convicted of a 502 (driving under the influence) even if he/she has a blood alcohol level of .0000000000000000 ... Any open alcohol container will do. The actual legal test is if the container is accessable from the passenger compartment. You can transport opened liquor bottles in the trunk, but the backseat is a no no. This is pretty wierd, but this is the law that the CHP (California Highway Patrol) administers, so be careful and don't get zapped. A California Native, Chris Kostanick decvax!vortex!ism780!chris
