I started a relationship 5 months before I left school and it
necessarily became an LDR (he was still in school). We spent a
year missing each other like crazy, seeing each other for too brief
weekends every six weeks or so. Then he graduated. End of LDR,
and we're getting married this summer. So it isn't always so bad.
Yes, there can be enormous pain. But if you can live through it,
the strength you get at the end makes up for it. We value each
other's presence that much more now, because we remember what it
was like not to have each other around. I think we take each other
for granted a lot less now than we did in those first five months.
