Well, people seem to want to be "swept away", to be irresponsible--even, in the women's case, to themselves. Remember Erica Jong and ziplessness. All too often, if people have to stop and think about what they're doing, they don't do it at all. I've also tried to think of movies where birth control was used, and "Summer of 42" was the only one I could think of (and there it was introduced as "what every Man carries in his wallet" and what kids are embarrassed to buy).
