Ralph:

For a while, at least, Ford was offering a Diesel engine with their
small pick-up. I believe that it was a 2.3L four. Further, it sounds
like it may have been the european built four, which has been around
for a few years, and seems to last. Of course, I am only writing what I
think, someone may know the REAL facts.

Also, because sales really have been lagging, make sure that Ford still
offers the engine and that your local dealer can do guarantee servicing.
After that, I would take the engine to a truck repair shop, so you could
check to see whether your local Ford truck shop (as in BIG truck) can
service the burner.
