As I understand it, the New York style is the one with the
sour cream top layer, or was it the other way around??

Have you ever had a "cheesecake" that you didn't like? Have
you ever had a "New York Style cheesecake" that you didn't
like. Who cares what the cook calls it, I'll eat it.
