Recently, while occupying our VAX 11/750 with a brisk game of
BSD 4.2 chess, the following sequence transpired...

17. k/qb1-qn1 I got out of an irritating check
... b/qr6-qn5 He decided to pin down my knight

18. r/kr1xp/kr7 I placed some tempting bate out
... k/kn1xr/kr2 He couldn't resist! See comment below

19. r/q1-kr1+ First stage of the trap closes
... k/kr2-kn1 His only move. This took only seconds.

8 R * - Q R * K * \\
7 * P P - * P * - \\
6 - * N * P P - * \\
5 P - * - * - * - \\ After
4 - B b p - * p * // #19
3 * p n - * p * - //
2 - * - q - p - * //
1 * k * - * - * r //

   q q q q k k k k
   r n b b n r

20. q/q2-kr6 Close the trap! One move to mate.
... q/q1-q4 No hope in sight for mighty-machine,
--> However, this desperate move took
him OVER AN HOUR to complete.

21. q/kr6-kr8+ Gotcha!
Resign Seems like he ought to say more.

I am posting this to contact anyone who might have encountered similar
response from the chess in BSD 4.2; especially someone who might fix it!
I know it must be embarrassing for the bits to loose, but to use
over an hour of time to realize that the mate was inevitable is just
poor etiquet; both I and the CPU were abused. If the author is out
there, you might use this case to expedite a loosing situation.

Also, this game's end is a hint to those who would tangle with this
particular chess program. He is very long sighted for balanced attacks
but this intelligence is lost when lopsided trades are offered.
