I stated the rules I was working with from the start.  If people choose to
ignore that, what can I do?  BTW, your reality appears to be different than
mine, with a much more restricted choice of tools.  I pity you.

Being the only available tool for a job does *not* mean that it's the best
tool for the job - it just means that it's the one you have to use.  In the
situations you've stated, I'd use BASIC, too.  There are even less
stringent situations where I've used BASIC, because it was the best tool
*available*.  Wherever possible, I corrected that situation by getting
better tools.
