In general the Dallas area is pretty poor to enjoy yourself. It is probably one of the worst towns in the whole world to that respect (I am from Amsterdam NL). There is a fairly good museum, really worthwhile going to. Also there is a nice farmers market downtown, I don't know what it is in winter, but in the summer they have foulk music sometimes there. There is a parc setup for the Texas Fair, with the Cotton Bowl in there. The Dallas Cowboys Footballstadium is far out of the way. It might be a good advice if you want to enjoy yourself to rent a car. Also there is virtually no nature, no woods, no nothing. Southern Methodist University is in the neighborhood of the conference with a probably good library. : gertjan vinkesteyn, SIL DALLAS ..{allegra,ctvax,ihnp4,rice,uiucdcs,unmvax}!convex!smu!txsil!gertjan PS.
