This one came up by accident but had its uses.  A mage fumbled a learning
roll and as a result learned an 'interesting' version of Affect Normal Fires
(or was it Burning Hands?  I think the first).  When he cast it he got a
fireball effect as the third level spell, but the blast would always include
him and always did exactly his current hit points.  The traditional line
after this became apparent was, "Cleric, get over here!  I'm going to cast a
fireball!"*

*(actually, it was "I'm going to use my fireball wand" since magic was
illegal, but...)
