We also get the message "cannot write to /dev/console: Bad filenumber" every
time we invoke mail. Our /etc/hosts file contains "127.1 localhost" as the
very first line. We are on a network and the message gets printed whether
one is mailing onto the local machine or a remote machine.

Any help will, of course, be appreciated.

We also hate sendmail.
