Second, desmodronic simply means instead of a spring and a cam/rocker arm, the valve is pushed in both directions, in and out. This would seem more efficient for direct solenoid operation, although as Jack points out, there are many other ways to operate valves. I was actually thinking about using a rotating sphere with a cylinderical hole perpendicular to the axis of rotation as a valve. I can see problems with lubrication, however.
