I think the implication is that others will not love you unless you are
capable of love yourself-- both to your own person and to others. People
don't love selfishly, and don't tolerate those who do. Loving others for
the sake of loving can degenerate into a narcissistic state, which is not a
positive thing. By basing your 'heart' on how you are loved, I think the
wizard is basing your perceptions of how you are loving on the people
around you, and how they view you, your actions, and your feelings. It
doesn't matter a bit what you really feel if it doesn't show through to
others...
