My suggestion as to how to relieve this situation (I hesitate to use "problem"): 1) Create net.sargent. This would contain material of, by, and for Jeff. Of course, discussions on whether or not he should exist would be frowned upon, much like discussions on whether or not homosexuality should exist are in net.motss. 2) Create net.sargent.only. Its intent should be self-explanatory. There is the additional use - the hope that one of the people who (in my opinion, obviously) thoughtlessly flamed Jeff to a crisp would forget the lessons of the past and submit something like: That was a really good article on how someone could think they would be unsatisfactory to any MOTOS. This might be useful to me someday. Then, perhaps, justice flambe would be served! On a somewhat more serious note, the article saying that Jeff uses the net as his SO, albeit perhaps of humorous intent, intrigued me. Indeed there may have been some points when I used it the same way - perhaps as a crutch when local relationships were on the rocks. I depended on it to keep my sanity, and in certain egotistical moments may have thought the feeling was mutual :-) But the net does provide companionship and stimulating conversation at times. Still, with the people on it scattered throughout the known universe, the relationship seemed too distant, and now we're "just friends". We still are on friendly speaking terms, though ;-) So here's one vote to keep JS on the net, Ken Kaufman (uiucdcs!kaufman)
