The recent discussion of Tangerine Dream has stirred me up a bit.
I've been searching for a particular style of music for use with
modern-dance pieces, and TD's Risky Business works nicely.

The particular style of music I need (described from a non-musicians
vocabulary) is typically electronic (although not necessarily so), and
has a very repetitive/interwoven underlying melody with a simplier melody
laid on top. Some sort of rhythm is absolutely necessary, either from
the under-melody, or from percussion. An great example is 'Love on a Real
Train' (Risky Business).

The last requirement (rhythm) is what sets 'Risky Business' apart from
anything else from TD I've heard. Cosmic TD is nice, but it's not what I
need. When I read (here, in .music) that 'Risky Business' came from the
album 'TANGRAM', I rushed right out and bought it, hoping for more of their
poppish stuff with a beat. Alas, it was not to be - more Tangerine Dream
sit-on-the-porch-and-watch-the-pretty-colors music. Again, good, but not
I'm looking for.

Is there any other Tangerine Dream like I described? Perhaps other
soundtracks? Any other artists? Dave Elliott recommended old Vangelis,
and maybe some Eno, except it was in the same breath as something
about chainsaws and machine music, so I don't know...

				   '...but is it really dance?'
