The problem with this (implied) argument is it can be used
to strip people of the freedom to do anything that might
hurt them under the grounds that society might have to pick
up the pieces.  Therefore, I say, let him rely on voluntary
hand-outs from charitable persons, but before the government
steps in, yes, let him starve.
