Jim Heliotis noted that two Sanyo Beta VCRs he has used unthreaded the tape
for rewinding like VHS VCRs do, and wondered how common this is. This
cheapness was only on a couple of low-end Sanyo VCRs; all other Beta VCRs
keep the tape threaded around the head drum at all times. I have since
read that Sanyo has dropped the cheaper loading mechanism on all of their
current models. (The cheapness comes from only needing one motor instead of
two, from what I read.)
