(2) Lou Brock: 3,000 hits and his doomed career record for steals made Brock the 15th man to enter the Hall of Fame the first year he was eligable. Just missing was Nelson "Nellie" Fox, who recieved 295 of the 297 needed for election this year. It was the closest election since Ralph Kiner won election by 1 vote in his last year of eligibility (1975). This was Fox's last year, too, and he is now the property of the Oldtimer's committee.
