Message-ID: <2666@dartvax.UUCP> Date: Thu, 3-Jan-85 09:03:52 EST Article-I.D.: dartvax.2666 Posted: Thu Jan 3 09:03:52 1985 Date-Received: Sat, 5-Jan-85 01:59:47 EST Distribution: net Organization: Dartmouth College, Hanover, NH Lines: 32 as the immortal Weisshaupt once said : "If you can't fool everyone all the time, then i firmly believe that you should start breeding for stupidity." now, for those of you who don't know who Weisshaupt is, forget i ever said any- thing... also, in response to the guy who said we were all neurotic yuppies, and that his friends at the pulp mill were more normal.... he has a point ( a small on on the top of his head )... allof us here are in some measure neurotic, and we do make some of these problems for ourselves, where normally none would exist, BUT, to make absurdly gross generalizations, i think it is largely due to the mentality of the "pulp mill people" as opposed to the net.singles people.... i've noticed that "pulp mill people" tend to deal with relationshipss in a very utilitarian manner - "you give me shit, and i walk out the door" or "i was mad at you, so i slept with the girl down the street" whereas the emphasis on net.singles is "lets work it out". People on singles seem to tend for a little self-sacrifice to make a relationship work... now, i don't know which works better... i'd like to think that relationships take two to tango, and that it is a cooperative effort, but then we seem to be having all of the problems, don't we??? Someone once told me (my illustrious sister that i quote quite often) that relationships need a liberal dose of self- ishness to survive... but how much selfishness is needed is open to debate...
