Hello...

Although this is my first posting, I have been reading the group for some time,
and hope this generates some useful discussion.

I feel that the way I see how relationships should turn out is greatly
influenced by the way they are portrayed in the media, rather than any
set of values I have. Television especially, since like most people my age I
have been absorbing cathode rays since I was born, basically. I watch very
little now, but usually these sorts of basic values are formed pretty early,
and despite myself, I try to reach a goal which is realistically unattainable
but which seems so casually attained in books, movies, etc.

Is this healthy, even if the characterizations are "good"? Have any of you
felt that you were being overly influenced by the media? Is the media
effective in negatively reinforcing "bad" relationships?

I feel this ties in directly with the topic of "pornography - good or bad?".
Whether or not it exploits whoever is pictured, it provides an easy outlet for
sexual fulfillment, too easy in my view, and that's why I avoid it now.
