Would that that were true!  Stargate is being billed as a way to save money
by not using phone lines to receive netnews.  After it is brought up, sites
will begin to drop the old phone line distribution system (otherwise, there
will be no way for them to save money).  Few users are likely to have
the benefits of the current system, because it will die, supplanted by a
moderated satellite-broadcast network.

Given that the project is being coordinated by someone who interprets any
disagreement as a sign that the disagreer has not understood the issues, and
who is fond of pronouncements like "If you don't like the way I've decided
it will be, you can leave", I do not think the comparison is at all
inappropriate.
