Stargate is being billed as a way to save money by not using phone lines to receive netnews. After it is brought up, sites will begin to drop the old phone line distribution system (otherwise, there will be no way for them to save money). Few users are likely to have the benefits of the current system, because it will die, supplanted by a moderated satellite-broadcast network. Given that the project is being coordinated by someone who interprets any disagreement as a sign that the disagreer has not understood the issues, and who is fond of pronouncements like "If you don't like the way I've decided it will be, you can leave", I do not think the comparison is at all inappropriate. -=- Tim Maroney, Carnegie-Mellon University Computation Center ARPA: Tim.Maroney@CMU-CS-K uucp: seismo!cmu-cs-k!tim CompuServe: 74176,1360 audio: shout "Hey, Tim!"
