I always felt that a sign saying "OPEN" in a store window or on a door
should make the place LEGALLY open to the public, and it doesn't matter
if you had to break a door or window to get in. THAT would sure make
them do better about checking that the sign is reversed or taken down
when they close! (Also external lights, aimed at signs or whatever,
should have the same effect; this is an advertisement that the store
is open for business during hours of darkness.)
