This is a very important point and I couldn't agree more. An acquaintance
of mine put it another way:

Once when she was in the hospital, and being a very bitchy patient, a nurse
said to her "You're so needy it would take twenty tits to take care of
you.". She was very shocked by this remark. When she got out of the
hospital she went to see her shrink and said "What should I do? A nurse
told me I need twenty tits!". Without hesitation her shrink replied "Get
ten friends.". (Most intelligent line I've ever heard from a shrink. (-: )

I might add that even after you've got your ten (twenty, fifty, whatever)
friends, it's not enough just to spread your troubles around. If all you
ever do is tell people your troubles, even if it's only 1/10th of your
troubles, they're going to burn out and go away. Don't forget to share the
good times, too, and meet some of their needs.
