In lieu of a hack newsgroup, I reckon this might be the
best place to deal with the sticky problems of hack.

1) The dog will both fight monsters and fetch treasure;
I often leave the dog to deal with Floating Eyes, or
Acid Blobs, or Killer Bees- and if you're quick, you can
eat the cadavers before it does.

2) You can train the dog by throwing food at him, by
baptizing him, and by using the whistle. I also tried
a flail on one once, but without noticeable effect.

3) Sometimes the mutt seems to get stuck for some reason.
I have sometimes teleported out of shops, laden with
goodies, and waited for hours for the damn thing to
catch up. You have to return to the shop door, and
whistle; that should do it.
