New York state mobile scanner law (from	the  7/84  issue  of
SCAN Magazine):


	       NEW YORK	SCANNER	LAW (paraphrased)
			  (Title 3@397)

     A permit from the local governing	body  of  the  city,
     town  or  village	is required prior to equipping motor
     vehicles with radios capable of  receiving	 signals  on
     frequencies allocated for police use.

     Licensed Amateur Radio operators are exempted.
