But what if you (being a cruel, heartless and non-sentimental beastie) decide
you can handle the rest of the dungeon yourself and don't need a little dog
who constantly gets underfoot anymore?  It's much easier to kill him off
when he's tame rather than let him starve or leave him on a level to go
wild and attack you.   He's much easier to finish off when he's tame.
