"Down Beat" commercial?  Well, it depends on what you mean by commercial.
It's true that they cover the "pop"-oriented varieties of jazz that I, for
one, don't care for, but they also cover everything else from the
traditional to the avant-garde.  And a liberal addition of all sorts of
non-jazz, too, just because no music is an island.  I remember that one of
their surveys revealed that a majority of their readers are working
musicians.  (Ads for instruments certainly play a large role in their
advertising.)  I have a lot of repsect for db.  I've stopped subscribing
because it was the only way to break my record-buying addiction.  :-)
