Does anybody know of a backgammon playing program that plays a solid
game? I need to find one that satisfies:

  1) It would do reasonably well against a strong player.
  2) It can be set up to play against itself starting from a given
     position.
  3) It understands doubling strategy, and the value of gammons
and backgammons (ie. double or triple points)
  4) It runs on a machine that I have access to (apple, ibm-pc, vax),
or preferably, is written in a high level language and available
     in that form.

Actually, I'd appreciate any information anybody has. I am aware of a
program developed by Paul Magreil that is allegedly very good, but
have no idea how to get hold of it. Please send replies by mail. Thanks.
