I wouldn't mind seeing a sequel to >Witches of Karres, but don't waste your time on his other books. I strongly disagree. I think that the Telzy Amberdon stories are some of the best character oriented sf from the period and that they still stand up well today. Telzy herself in a very appealing person, and her universe quite interesting. I always wished that Schmitz had written more stories in this milieu, both to see Telzy again and to expand some on the background of life in the Hub Federation. As a SC state legislator prepares to introduce mandatory seat belt laws into the House, I find myself pining for an Overgovernment whose general policy is to leave people alone so the race doesn't loose its competitive edge. For people wanting more Schmitz, I can suggest a few things I haven't seen mentioned on the net yet : _A_Tale_of_Two_Clocks (a novel of the Old Galactics and Trigger Argee Unfortunately, there is an alternate title for this one which I can't remember ), _Agent of Vega_ (a short story collection), _A Pride of Monsters_ (another collection) and "The Witches of Karres" - the novella on which the substantially different novel was based (available in one of the SF Hall of Fame volumes). BTW is you can find the first (only?) DAW edition of _The Lion Game_, the Freas cover is worth the price of the book in itself (especially if you are male). psigning off Ted Nolan ..usceast!ted -- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Ted Nolan ...decvax!mcnc!ncsu!ncrcae!usceast!ted 6536 Brookside Circle ...akgua!usceast!ted Columbia, SC 29206 ("Deep space is my dwelling place, the stars my destination") -------------------------------------------------------------------------------
