Recently in this newsgroup I posted a request for information about the Canon
28mm f2.0 wide-angle lens. I have received several replies on this lens, all
of them positive. Recently, however, I became aware that Canon also has a
wide-angle zoom lens that zooms from 24mm to 35mm, and it is an 'L' series
lens, f3.5. This lens is quite a bit more expensive than the 28mm lens, but
it seems that the zoom would offer much more versatility, since it covers
three focal lengths. I am not a professional photographer, and I realize
that a zoom might not have the sharpness of a fixed-focal length lens, but I
have been satisfied with the shots taken with my 70-210 mm Canon lens. So it
seems I must make a decision as to whether to get the 28mm lens or the 24-35
mm zoom. Are there any other tradeoffs other than a possible loss of sharp-
ness? I am willing to make that tradeoff for the convenience of a zoom. Does
anyone have any other suggestions for wide-angle lenses?

        Thanks,
        Dennis
