Yet always life implies a death, and so we reckon time, count days, and sigh lost years; and wondering note how little time is left. Then, when I look at you, do not ask me why I reach to touch you -- for you are beautiful and you delight me. I touch you as I catch at a flower, gently; but always passing, even as the flowers themselves are transient. Be it enough to say, Here are we two; and let this be our faith for the while. But do not ask the impossible of me -- no man may halt the changing of his year. Oh please believe me that I love you now, and understand we may not love forever -- for even as we deny it, our seasons are turning and will bring us to this point again; but then, we shall stand in another year -- and alone. --chris
