^Shoppers assaulted by poison gas<
MURRAY HILL, NJ (AP) _ Innocent shoppers in a New Jersey
food store were assailed yesterday by poisonous smoke. Some of
the victims suffered from headaches, respiratory problems, and
eye irritation after exposure to the smoke. The foul-smelling
smoke contained several toxic gases, as well as dangerous carcinogens.
The source of smoke was found to be an ignited tube of dried
leaves wielded by another shopper in the store. When questioned, the
assailant replied that it was his right to smoke if he wanted to.
His wife agreed, saying that she couldn't understand why everyone
was making such a fuss about it.
An unidentified witness was reported to say, "I agree
completely. I personally happen to be addicted to swinging around
a large, metal club. I see no reason why I should be prevented
from doing so whenever and wherever I feel like it. The wimps who
complain that they are being hurt by my inadvertently bashing them
with my club should just grow up. I have the right to do whatever
I find pleasurable. If that happens to harm other people, that's
too bad, but I'm not going to relinquish my freedom."
This argument failed to convince some shoppers, including
one young woman who was incapacitated by a migraine headache caused
by exposure to the cigar smoke.
Neither the smoker nor the club-swinger was arrested.
