There are two Martin Ehrengraf (the attorney whose clients are always innocent) stories; a Matt Scudder; a Chip Harrison (an Archie Goodwin to Leo Haig, a parodised Nero Wolfe); and of the rest, some sardonic, a few chilling enough to be worthy of Harlan Ellison. Although Block writes mainly within the mystery genre, the man is first and foremost an old-fashioned storyteller. Anyone considering reading him should dip into this collection for a sample of his talents. -- ______ Russ Herman / \ {allegra,ihnp4,linus,decvax}!utzoo!aesat!rwh @( ? ? )@ ( || ) The opinions above are strictly personal, and ( \__/ ) do not reflect those of my employer (or even \____/ possibly myself an hour from now.)
