Actually (this was one of my favourite shows) it's hardly a one or the
other decision when examining those characters.  While I too probably preferred
Smither's looks, their characters had interesting contrasts.  Bailey was
trying very hard to make it in the world, but she was a very low status
character compared to Jennifer.  On the other hand Jennifer's character
was so high status as to be stuck-up.   Of course, perhaps some men like
exactly the character of Bailey - vulnerable, mildly assertive but not too
much - but it isn't quite for me.
