Wouldn't that just be a fumble??  I seem to remember a game one time
(seems like the Cowboys and somebody) where some guy was running untouched
into the end-zone but spiked the ball on the 2!  I think it rolled out the
back of the end-zone and was ruled a touchback.  Anybody remember
this?  Sounds like a Cowboy play to me :-) (yes, I'm a cowboy fan).

Now, if he spiked it in such a way that it bounced out of bounds (very 
dangerous) or simply throw it (backwards so as not to have an illegal
forward pass) out.  That would probably get you a penalty.

I'm tellin' you guys, I've been saying it all year, Miami vs. SF.
However, I've changed my tune about the winner.  SF now.  Dallas
gave Maimi a better game than I expected.
