In that session the issue of terminal id number was discussed. In brief, a file similar to a termcap from Un*x can be compiled to generate descriptions of the normal DEC terminals along with anything you might own. This description is used by SET TERM/DEVI=xxx to set the appropriate terminal characteristics and the id becomes a number used by the SMG$ routines to lookup the codes for your particular terminal. These id numbers however are subject to change EVERY time you rebuild the terminal data file. The audience asked for a conversion to/from the name and id & we got the usual ``noted''. I hope DEC listens. By the way, in VMS V3, there are big holes in the numbering scheme of the terminal id. --Mark
