I tried the sponges at the beginning of the year, and I was also less
than pleased with the product.  Since they come in the ever handy
three-pack I used all three and all three gave the same type of
irritation.  I, too, have used spermicides without any problems so your
conclusion that there is something to the sponges seems reasonable to
me.  
     Recently, while I was waiting for a prescription at the pharmacy on
campus I talked with the pharmacist and was told that there had been no
complaints about the sponges.  The next thing he got was an ear full
from me about the irritation and that a word of caution should be given
to new users.
