A man in Krakow told his friend on the street that since he couldn't find bread
in Krakow, he was going to Gdansk to buy some bread for his family.
"Gdansk," his friend says, "Why are you going to Gdansk. Don't you
know that the only place to buy bread in the country is Warsaw. "
"I know that, " the first replies, "but the line begins in Gdansk."
[Notes: Warsaw is in the center of Poland. Gdansk on the Coast.]

In the days before martial law was declared and it appeared that other
countries of the Warsaw pact might invade Poland to put down Solidarity,
a Polish worker went up to a soldier and asked him,
"If the Russians and the East Germans were to invade at the same
time, who would you shoot first?"
"Oh that's an easy choice," the Polish soldier replied, "the
Russian. Business before pleasure."

The following is not from Poland, but rather from Leningrad USSR
	(from _Political_Jokes_of_Leningrad_)

Q: Why did the Egyptians lose the 1967 Six Day War so badly?
A: Simple. They followed the advice of their Russian advisors to
retreat far into their own territory and wait for the first frost.
