I would like to throw a little more wood onto the "do women really like
men that are assholes" fire. I am sort of curious what sort of reaction
women (and men) have to the ideas in the infamous GOR science fiction
series. Those of you who have read net.sf-lovers in the past already
know what I'm talking about, but here's a quick recap for those who don't.

The GOR novels (or counter-earth) are written by an individual who calls
himself John Norman. In actuality, his name is John Lange, and he is a
doctor of philosophy in some college in New York. The basic idea of these
novels is pretty much the same as the idea for which he was given his PhD:

A woman can only truly realize her full potential and find
fulfillment by becoming the sex slave of a virile man.

Now that sounds pretty unbelievable to me, in fact it sounds like a
teenage male's wet dream come to life. But the plot gets better.

These novels are published by DAW, and Donald A. Wollheim (= DAW) claims
that sales on this series are SINGLE-HANDEDLY keeping DAW Books afloat.
Also, in an interview, John Lange claims that 4 out of every 5 letters he
receives about the books are from WOMEN and are FAVORABLE!!!

These books contain lovely stuff like: the way to tell is a woman is a
REAL woman is to flick her between the legs with a whip and watch how she
"moves."

Now, I'm glad that DAW books is making money, because they publish a lot of
other stuff which is quite good. But please, tell me that what the GOR books
say isn't so....
