Re: MicroVax, Call-back modems, ULTRIX-number of users, ULTRIX vs 4.2.

We are an OEM providing turnkey systems to Universities and Colleges for
Administrative and Academic needs on the VAX line of DEC processors.

1) Our current systems are supplied on VAX 750's & 780's. Our marketing
people are interested in expanding the low end of our offerings. One
possiblity is to use the MicroVax.

How compatible is the MicroVax to the 750,780 machines ?
Will our 4.2BSD run on it as is ?
Are there differences at the device driver level ?
Is somebody supplying 4.2BSD on the MicroVax ?
Is it possible that ULTRIX will support our applications ?

2) We have clients that are interested in call-back modems. Does anybody
have any information on this type of modem and are there any mods required to
the source (ie login.c) ?

3) Some of the DEC literature claims the upper end for the number of users
under ULTRIX is 32. What are the details and why ?

4) We currently run in a 4.2 environment. We are considering ULTRIX.
What are the real differences in ULTRIX and 4.2BSD ? What kind of changes
did DEC make ? What compatiblity problems might exist for our application
software ?

As always, Thanks in advance,
