I ported yacc to VMS, where identifiers can contain $, and encountered absolutely no problems! yacc only uses identifiers of the form $n, where n is some small number, so as long as you stay away from identifiers like that, there is no problem. I see no real reason to loose sleep over the incompatibility with yacc, as there is no problem in practice. /Joe
