By the way, Rob, aren't you confusing Nyssa with Kassia?) [it's clobberin' time.....FLAME ON!] > And that's just what I think of the character. Sutton herself > is an AWFUL actress. My lord, she only seems to have one emotion > (worry/anxiety) and she is always using it at the wrong spot... Have you forgotten what Nyssa has gone through? She started off, pure and innocent, in "Keeper of Traken". Then the Master took over her father's body. Her best friend, Adric, was killed. To sum up, she grew up in a hurry. How would you have acted if you were her? She was happy in "Black Orchid", though. > (I got one mail message from someone once who tried to tell me that > Sutton MUST be a good actress because she was teaching acting somewhere... She's not teaching acting yet; she's studying drama. I wonder what else she has done in regards to acting. > would you all be rushing to her defense if she had the same character, > same acting ability, same dialog, but was short, dumpy and had pimples? Probably not. Unless she was cute. [flame off.] Let me now say that most of the actors and actresses who were companions were unknowns. The same also goes for most of the production crew -- I've heard that "Doctor Who" was training ground for production teams. It's probably training ground for inexperienced actors and actresses. (The kids don't know. They don't mind, as long as it's fun to watch.) I don't really care that you don't like Sarah Sutton; it's your opinion. (So why am I posting? Because I like her.) Agreed, she may not be a fine actress (I think she was trained to be a dancer, and may have never "trod the boards"), but she's still CUTE. That's more than I can say about Suzanne Somers (talk about acting inability!). And someone said that the only part Colin Baker can play is an arrogant snob. Maybe so, if he's a character actor (and a rather non-versatile one at that). I know he's a great ad-libber, and did work in the theater in Sweden, but only time will tell if the Sixth Doctor will mellow out. (I'd like to see some 22nd season episodes -- can BBC1 be picked up with a satellite dish?) Sorry to put you on the spot like this, Rob, but what companions do you like? How about rating all the companions (from Susan to Perpugilliam Brown) on a 1-10 scale? Perhaps you should rate the Doctors as well. Or better yet, what if you were the next companion? Meanwhile, a lonely young man hopes for someone special under his Christmas tree.....
