"Liberal", in Tom's posting, is used with reckless abandon; (I mean
"liberal" beginning in lower-case, although I see a "Liberal" there as
well. Surely it was just a typo? :-) The use of such worn-out and mean-
ingless terms as "fuzzy-headed liberal thinking", which has been all too
plentiful in recent months, is very tiresome. I thought net.flame had
gotten over the "Re: Re: Fuzzy-headed liberals" fad. There is no reason
at all to make such sweeping generalizations about a very ambiguously defined
body of people named "liberals", so why start name-calling?

Thousands of people have died from the immediate effects of the chem-
icals which escaped. Many thousands more are injured permanently and I
imagine that, due to the nature of the chemicals, still-births and deform-
aties will become normal in that area for a long time. These deaths and
sicknesses are NOT a sacrifice which becomes relatively meaningless in
view of the fact that the plant may have produced fertilizer to "save
millions of Indians anually". The Union Carbide plant is there
to make money, above all else. WESTERN money, that is.

About the above article in particular: 'nuff said. I'm sure
creative netters will either flame the hell out of it or write a few short
lines of quiet praise.
