Lines: 28 [] The DM I play with incorporated such a system into one of his campaigns. He had special tables and sub-tables, which he made up, of personal abilities to be assigned by die rolls. Characters didn't automatically know what their personal ability was but could find out from a mage of sufficient level. All in all, the system seemed to work well and allowed everyone to have some magic to play with. As an example, my character was a plain, vanilla fighter -- strong (18 + 52%) but not otherwise notable. His personal ability was flight (class A combat maneuverability at 36 in., able to carry himself + a man in armor). He used to go dragon hunting with a specially built heavy horse lance and a crossbow equipped dwarf strapped to his back. Got a few, too. We also had a Druid whose ability was to be 99% successful at opening doors and detecting traps. There was nothing we couldn't get into -- a fact we had occasional reason to regret. -- The Polymath (Jerry Hollombe) Opinions expressed here are my own Transaction Technology, Inc. and unrelated to anyone else's. 3100 Ocean Park Blvd. Santa Monica, CA 90405 United States (213) 450-9111, ext. 2483 ...{garfield,lasspvax,linus,cmcl2,seismo}!philabs!ttidca!ttidcc!hollombe
