I just bought some camera lenses from 47th St. Photo today. I've
dealt with them before and they have always been good. The costs
are low and they have a booming business (when I've bought stuff
from them over the counter in NY it's been a mad house).
Like many main order places now, shipping can be done via
slo mail (UPS), a somewhat faster mail, or even Federal Express (which
is how mine was handled). It woud have cost $6 shipping via UPS
for the package and $30 for Fed Exp (which is an excellent price
considering the poundage of the lenses) -- I think they goofed in
my favor.
Not only are those places discount (I can never beat those
prices), but also there is no sales tax for out-of-state. For those
of you in CT, an extra $7.50 off of each $100 is pretty tempting.
The only bad thing is that except for today, each time I talked to
47th st, they were very rude (I felt it was much more than the NY attitude).
I know they're busy, but over the phone they don't want to spend even
5 secs to answer a question. I can understand them not wanting to give away
too much info and lose a sale (because of the time wasted in their hi-volume
business), but they cross the border of arrogant.
