Texas CS Dept., Austin, Texas Lines: 15 A friend of mine, who is not on the net, is in the market for a telescope. Before he goes off and spends ~$500 on the wrong thing, I thought I would consult this list's experts for advice. As far as I can tell, he just wants to get friendlier with the night sky without getting too serious - he wants to look at planets and comets as the mood strikes him, he may be willing to consult a chart to see where the things he wants to see are at the moment and any serious program of observation is out of the question. What are the relevant selection critera for such a telescope? My thanks for any assistance- Kim Korner
