I seem to remember a cartoon in an old MAD magazine regarding just this
topic.

It showed a young male thinking and wondering about our societal fixation
with large breasts.  He was convinced that the reason for this
fixation was due to them always "being covered".  So he got to
thinking about other body parts, noticed a women with an extremely
large nose attached to a hideous face, and finally noticed the band-aid
affixed to the aforementioned nose.  He exclaimed: "Look at that beautiful
women", and confused the heck outa his friends!

Personally, I never was into noses....
