I too have driven in Boston and where there are fewer parking spaces available
there is more driving. This is due to the fact that people are forced to drive
around for 15 or twenty minutes (if they are lucky!) just to find a space
to park. If you can't find a space within walking distance of where you want
to be you must take a cab. By the way, the T (or subway) doesn't run after 
11:00 pm when there is a concert in town.
Reducing the amount of parking spaces is no solution to car fumes it is mearly
a pain.
