A few comments:

I don't know about NY/NJ but they do come to Washington, DC.
Gordon Bok did a solo show down town last month which I saw.
The most interesting thing is that he used a Balans chair (see the
current discussion in net.consumers). He sat real funny though -
instead of putting both knees on the lower supports, he put on foot
on the support and propped the guitar on his knee, while (I think)
putting the other foot on the floor. He claimed he used the chair to
help his back, but I'm not so sure it would work... So who ever said
folk singers can't be trendy?

While on the subject, Bok/Muir/Trickett did "Waltzing With Bears" in
their Washington appearance last year; they told the same story about
trying to spread the song by the "folk process" since the Dr. Suess
people objected to formal publication.
