If you succeed, you can usually get a good magic item out of it. Also, the quartermaster doesn't know if you attempted it, so he will show you his wares regardless of the outcome. 2) In combat (believe it or not) you can pickpocket the weapon that the monster is wielding. In other words, if an elf is attacking you with a +5,+5 long sword and cuts your hitpoints in half, you can take his sword away and use it against him!!!! WARNING: Pickpocketing is a random endeavor. First of all you may not succeed in pickpocketing anything, and secondly you could end up pickpocketing some other item that the beastie is carrying. Remember there is no honor among thieves.
