While DEC charges a pretty good deal for VMS and its associated
software, source code, etc, I doubt if they get any $$$$ for Unix,
especcialy the BSD version. AT&T gets licencing rights for Version V, 
but no DEC. So DEC's president's letter could be interpreted as

  "Since we are not making any money out of Unix, DON'T BUY IT!!"

Performance-wise, having used both VMS and BSD 4.2, Unix is FAR more
superior and flexible... VMS is too restrictive (although it has 
"Five feet of Documentation"). It is faster, we have to admit that, 
but that's it... now the price difference.......
