(The trip back was supposed to take 28 months.) Wasn't the Central American crisis going on in the beginning of the movie? (That's why the Soviet representative was reluctant to contact Floyd.) Isn't 2.5 years awfully long for a crisis? (After all, even the Iranian hostage crisis only took ~14 months.) On the other hand, if the trip didn't take 2.5 years, why did they bother freeze-drying Floyd et al? BTW, it seems to be one of those movies that diminishes on you (in opposition to "grows on you") with time. It's kind of like...fast food science fiction. ...bob garmise...at&t bell labs, columbus...
