If your application services desk accessories, you can watch the heap change. In any case, you can play with other desk accessories. The heap appears as a rectangular block consisting of vertical bands of patterns. The bands representing low to high memory run from top to bottom of the rectangle, then top to bottom of the next band to the right. The bands are 8 pixels wide. The patterns are: Black: Free Striped:* Relocatable, Unlocked, and Purgeable Dark Gray: Relocatable, Unlocked, but not Purgeable Light Gray: Relocatable, but Locked White: Not Relocatable ---------------------------------------------------------------- * This means a vertical band of 3 black, 2 white, 3 black pixels. If flanked by black (Free) bands, this just looks like a narrow white band. ---------------------------------------------------------------- - Harry
