Regarding the male voice over etc. on many commercials I would like to relate
my thoughts during one such.

While getting ready for work this morning I was listening to a Madison,
WI TV station for some weather etc when a commerial from Playtex 18 hour
etc came on (Jane Russel w/ bras and girdles). At the end of the comercial

sure enough there was the male voice over to tell me how great the 18 Hour
products were and my thought was - - WHAT DOES HE KNOW ABOUT IT ANYHOW - -

seems like in many spots like this the advertising exec who thought the
mans voice might engender a feeling of confidence in the product never
thought how ludicrous is sounds for a man to be telling a woman how comfortable
a bra might be.

Perhaps it is a small skirmish and not the entire conflict but it sure feels
good to realize that perhaps the effort to strengthen the gender/sex stereo-
type might looose more ground than it gains simply because of the improbability
of the situation. (besides which I am sure it can also generate many a
wonderful fit of giggles if you have the time.)
