At Honolulu International (HNL), a few years ago, a new runway
was built. This runway, called the Reef Runway (8R/26L, I think),
is there specifically as a shuttle alternate landing site. If I
recall correctly, it's about 12000 feet long. I also recall that
JFK, among others, can handle an emergency shuttle landing.
