Well, it's nice to see some life on this discussion in this group.

If any of you are ambitious enough to build such a beast, I would be
willing to run programs on it.

On the subject of benchmarks and 'figures of merit': It is unfortunate
what uninformed management does to take and warp the results of benchmark
tests.  Benchmarks can be quite useful.  Now lets see, our Cray costs
$15 million times....... :-)
