Rather than giving ANYONE a handout (be they bag ladies in NYC or
starving kiddies in Ethiopia), let's try passing along technology and
jobs. No matter how much money we throw at Ethiopia, we're not going to
solve the problem; we may help a few people not starve, but they become
dependent on the handouts. Big lose. Let's teach them to grow their
own. As Jay Lepreau is fond of quoting "Give a man a fish, he eats for
a day; teach him to fish, he is never hungry."

As far as the farmers in this country, if Congress would cut out there
stupid price subsidy programs (for milk and honey, in particular), and
let the market determine prices, a few farmers might go out of business
(especially in the honey market!), but the ones that made it will be
much better off, and will be secure in their financial status instead
of living from season to season.

There's no way to help this country out of its finnancial dire straits
without hurting someone. Big government just has to face up to that
fact and get it over with.
