There's two of 'em. The Provisional wing broke with the Official IRA about 15 years ago. The Provisionals alone are responsible for the terrorism and religious violence. The Official IRA has as its goal a united socialist Irish republic, and condemns religious violence as yet another tool of capitalism to keep the working class from uniting to overthrow the bosses. In 1976, the Official IRA actually came out in support of the then popular peace campaign that was started by two mothers (one Catholic, one Protestant) who had both lost children to terrorism. The politics of the Official IRA are certainly impeachable, especially their friendliness with Moscow, but they understand the deeper roots of the trouble in Ulster, and are otherwise fairly benign. One can support the struggle of the Irish against their colonial oppressors and still condemn terrorism. If you think that the Irish have ever gotten a fair shake from the British, you know nothing of Irish history. -- *** *** JE MAINTIENDRAI ***** ***** ****** ****** 20 Dec 84 [30 Frimaire An CXCIII] ken perlow ***** ***** (312)979-7188 ** ** ** ** ..ihnp4!iwsl8!ken *** ***
