We have been having continuing troubles with our external drive trashing the developer's disks, and powering off rather than switch-rebooting seems to ameliorate the situation. Do any of the people who are having problems with external drives NOT have the programmer's switch installed? For that matter, I wonder how many people on this list do NOT have it in...
