In 'The Making of Dune', Rafaella DeL. is quoted as giving that length for the rough cut, but it included a lot of multiple shots of the same scene, and, I suspect, the subplot of Paul killing one of the Fremen and taking his wife and children. This was said to put the audience to sleep, so was excised. When the movie is sold to television, you can count on seeing the longes possible version, probably over two nights, the better to cram it with commercials. Steve Upstill
