There was NOT gravity in the pod bay in 2001!  Remember
the black squares on the floor?  Remember the close up of
"grip shoe" toward the beginning?  Did you notice that
Bowman and Poole walked uncertainly in the pod bay, but
not in the carousel?  At least Kubrick made the effort.
There's about a 10 second scene in 2001 that may have gotten
axed in the 35mm version:  Bowman 'standing' on one surface
taking readings on a clipboard, Poole 'standing' on a
surface at right angles to him.  Great scene.  The point
is that the zero gravity scenes in 2001 were as accurate
as Kubrick could make them.  (There were some bloopers,
like liquid traveling back *down* the straw in a container.)
But in 2010 they didn't even try.  Damn them!
