While it seems that the folks in the Big Cities in Southern
California have been basking in the continual warmth and sunshine,
which gives them time to think of new and wonderous newsgroups to
create and delete, the word I get from back home in the Cold
Country is quite different.

As you may have heard, it gets kinda *cold* in winter up in Lake
Wobegon! Just the other day, young Bob Knardson was out in the
barnyard trying to break a path thru the snow to the henhouse. Up
came a big gust of wind and just blew Bob up against the barn so
hard it rattled the three original thoughts Bob had stored since
last summer. Got them so jumbled up that he clean forgot that he
was going to the henhouse.

Instead he fought his way back to the main house, stomped off
the snow from his boots on the back porch, and went in by the wood
stove in the kitchen to thaw out. While he was sitting there, one
of those jumbled ideas sorta poked its head up and got Bob's
attention.

So while he sat there feeling the numbness slowly work its way
out of his fingers and toes, he let this new idea wander around in
his head. It was one of those ideas that really make you feel
like you're going to do something *great*! It made Bob start to
feel smarter than he had ever felt before!

About that time, Bob heard the cows out in the barn mooing in
that special voice that all dairy farmers know well. They were
saying, "We Need To Be Milked!" Folks, you just don't know how
uncomfortable something *is* until you need milking and there's
nobody around to do it!

So Bob put his boots and coat and gloves and hat back on. And
he headed back out into that blowing, freezing wind. Bucking his
way thru the snow out to the barn. And folks, you all well know
what all that cold and wind and puffing for breath will do to your
mind. It quicly decides that the most important thing to be
thinking about is just making it to the barn!

Well, young Bob made it to the barn. And being a thoughtful and
considerate fellow, he warmed up his hands real good before he
started the milking. And after doing the other chores, he was
pretty much tuckered out by the time he got back to the house. So
that great idea was gone! It got blown clean out of his mind on
the way to the barn.

So to you folks over in Buffalo, New York; if you're outside
when the wind is blowing real cold and real hard, and you get an
unususal idea into your head...it isn't yours! It's young Bob's
come all the way from Lake Wobegon!

That's the news from the farm outside Lake Wobegon.

Cheers,
   Lindsay
