Carnegie-Mellon University has won a large amount of money from
the U.S. Department of Defense to establish a Software Engineering
Institute. To get it, they lobbied heavily, including a "phone your
congressman" campaign, and a promise to train AND EMPLOY laid-off
steelworkers in the institute.. The Wall Street Journal says the following:

"Saying that its special computer needs are often misunderstood by industry,
The Defense Department wants to create a university-based Software Engineering
Institute that would develop new ways to make defense software. Last week
[Oct.11-17], Congress authorized $8 million to pay for the first year
of the project. The Pentagon plans to spend $103 million on the institute
over the next five years."

I say CMU has sold its integrity and created another laboratory of death.
