what is trust
but a word we reserve for few,
a sense that feels secure,
a belief we try to grip with bared hearts.

I want to trust
but the weathering and withering of living
prevents me from openning as I once did.

My friend, can I call you friend?
I don't know yet if you really are.
What level of trust can I risk on you?
Tell me, advise me
I will believe you if you just say I can.
Or if you indicate less, I will hold onto my trust
and not risk its misuse.
Tell me, advise me.
You'll see I will listen.

Others say I am easy to talk to,
yet I feel I hold back so much.
Others feel they can trust me,
I feel I trust so few.
But the words others tell me,
I trust implicitly.
