From Radio Communications Report (International	Thomson	Com-
munications, Inc.) December 3, 1984:

		  GE WITHDRAWS PRCS FROM FCC

SYRACUSE - The General Electric Co. has anounced it	will
no longer pursue development of its personal radio	com-
   munications service [PRCS]......

The corporate move comes surprisingly close to an expec-
ted	FCC rulemaking	on a proposed allocation of spectrum
for the PRCS	and a variety of other newly proposed servi-
ces. GE was	seeking	4 MHz of spectrum (898 - 902 MHz and
937 - 941 MHz) from the land	mobile reserve spectrum.....

The proposed	radio service received mixed reviews within
the	land mobile radio industry, with comments ranging
from	"a poor	man's cellular"	to a sophisticated citizens
   band	radio.

GE's	PRCS was actually a little of both. It	proposed to
offer low-priced two-way communications with	the capabil-
ity of interconnection to the public switched telephone
network. The proposed service was expected to have a
range of 5 miles up to 15 miles with	a repeater.....

Mura	Corp. is also seeking FCC support for	a "consumer
radio service" using	900 MHz	land mobile reserve frequen-
   cies.
