It sounds like these experiments on the magnetosphere are
relatively common--I'm just uninformed.  Also, they may have started
a long time ago.  This makes me wonder...
if they were more publicized, maybe there would be fewer UFO
claims.  Since I've never seen these experimental phenomena, I
don't know if this would explain any UFO sightings (I haven't seen a
UFO either).  I suppose this
isn't the place to start discussing UFOs?  If so, I'm sorry.

I do have something else...

I agree that the magnetosphere is fascinating, but I'm sure there's
more of interest than I know about.   What about the magnetosphere 
interests scientists so much that they study this way?  What about
it makes three nations want to do a joint experiment?  I wonder if
this is something I missed or forgot from school...  Anyway, maybe I
just need to read up.  Any suggested reading?
