I'm a tad skeptical about the established need for a newsgroup for members of
Mensa, but assuming for the moment that there is such a need: is there any
good reason why it should be a top-level group?

Assuming that we want to avoid more inconsistently named newsgroups like
net.chess (which should be net.games.chess) and the various scientific groups
that should belong to net.sci, wouldn't it be better to think ahead? If a
newsgroup is created for members of Mensa, I suspect that members of other
organizations will become interested in the same thing. If that is indeed a
possibility, maybe we should create a heading to stick such newsgroups under.
Net.orgs? Net.club? Net.grp? Or perhaps we could do as has been so often
suggested and cannibalize net.social for this purpose.

Personally, I think we should all consider net.mensa long and hard before we
create it. The burden of proof, as always, rests on those proposing the new
newsgroup. But if we do decide to go ahead with a Mensa newsgroup, I think we
should consider equally hard that it probably won't be the last of its kind.
