Is anyone using a Hayes smartmodem on a 3b2 to do both dialing in and out
of the computer? I am having problems getting ours working correctly.

What are the switch settings that you are using? What does your
/etc/inittab entry for the line look like? How about L-devices and
L-dialers? Protections, etc. anything that I could have overlooked.

In most cases, it works for dialing in (it does fail sometimes and when
it does, it turns off HS 1200 (baud mode)). However, I am unable to
get it to dial out at all. When I set level 3 in inittab (as the
documentation says to use), cu sits around, not sending anything to the
modem, until it tells me "connect failed". If however, I use level 2,
then I get the following error message:

getty: cannont open "acu0". errno: 4

I have checked the different L-* files and all seem to be okay. Any help
that you can give me would be appreciated. Thanx.

P.S.	Where in the documentation does it describe what error numbers
are for what errors? In the above case, for open().
