David Lynch ("Eraserhead", "The Elephant Man") is the director, not Rafaella de Laurentiis, who is the producer. She previously produced "Conan the Barbarian", and stories from the set indicate that she is an active line producer, not a figurehead. $40million for the production may be a slight exaggeration. The $40 million for distribution almost certainly is. The "10 films in 18 months" almost certainly refers to the total output of De Laurentiis' new studio in North Carolina (strange but true). Michael Cimino is, at this very moment, filming "The Year of the Dragon" (a film about Chinese tongs) there, and suffering from an acute shortage of Oriental extras. As the output of the studio, 10 films might be an overestimate, but it wouldn't surprise me too much if they managed it. Of course, many of the films will be cheap trash. -- Peter Reiher reiher@ucla-cs.arpa {...ihnp4,ucbvax,sdcrdcf}!ucla-cs!reiher
