One thing I most certainly not want to have to do is to carry a gun to perhaps ward off a rapist of any other would be assailant.(sp) I am not sure of the statistic , the number is not really all that important, but it has been shown time and again that the people who carry weapons for self-defense ( other than the police and armed forces) most usually have to be treated for injuries caused to the by their attacker WITH THEIR OWN WEAPONS !!!!!.
