My Imagen programmer's manual mentions a flag in the Document Control
String called "complex-graph". It appears that Tek mode normally uses a
fast algorithm that may miss lines on complex graphs. If you set
"complex-graph on", a different, slower conversion is used, that will not
fail unless it runs out of memory. The "Missed scan lines" error is
printed when the simple algorithm misses something.

The official explanation is in section 8.4 of the IMPRINT-10 Programmer's
Manual.
