In response to <750@reed> - yes. Here at Isrnix on our 11/44 we have
more than doubled the speed at which kernel/user copies take place
by writing routines that map kernel space into user space and use
'mov' instructions. I too was bothered by the amount of time spent
copying buffers. We are planning a 'release' of the (long-awaited)
Isrnix system sometime in mid-january. This release will be available to
all 2.9BSD license holders for the cost of a tape, shipping and administrative
overhead (probably ~$40). There will be a general announcement of
availability to the 2BSD mailing list in January and a minor one in
net.unix. Write to me if you are interested or want to know what will
be included.
