Then put a teaspoon or other piece of metal in it. Pour in the hot tea. The ice will melt, the tea will cool down, and the metal spoon gets its temperature changed instead of causing the glass to crack. (It's real neat to watch moisture in the air condense on the spoon.) I am not an expert on physics/heat transfer/thermodynamics. I just know that this works.
