Winter meetings inspire winter trades inspire winter dreams.
To wit:

1. I can only feel sympathy for Henry Cotto, who must now don
the pinstripes and then listen to George Steinbrenner bitch about
him the first time he makes even a slight mistake. Henry, do
you know what airlines fly direct from New York to Columbus?

2. Rich Cerone has been liberated from Der Boss's shackles and
is going to Atlanta. Freed from bondage, Rick will probably
have a fine year behind the plate and at bat. Twenty-five
home runs in Fulton County Stadium is not a great deal to
expect.

3. Rumormill, courtesy of Arthur George Rust, Jr. (WABC radio
in NYC), is that Mookie Wilson and Jose Oquendo are about to
be traded to the Dodgers for Pedro Guerrero. If it's true
(Oh God Let It Be True!), Shea Stadium may rock this summer!
The only question is whether Strawberry can succeed Wilson in
centerfield and play the position respectably. For my money
(two cents worth, indeed), Strawberry remains something of an
unknown quantity. If he is on, Chicago is going to have a hell
of a time repeating.
