How does a pilot know whether he/she is flying in Wisconsin? (Assuming
his/her map and naviagational aids were damaged in some freak mishap...)
Simple, you have a conversation with the tower like I did this weekend:
 
       Tower: "Triple-4 November, please abort your landing due to
               deer on the runway."
       Me :   (After a slight pause to try and remember which manufacturer
               makes "deers.") "Tower, please say again...?"
       Tower : "I think you heard me..."

Sure enough, I spied three deer tearing across the field on their
way to the woods. (I was told that there were five deer on the field
the day before...)
