(The violins swell) I'm sorry that you can't get a student loan. I'm sorry that keeping your grades up while working is hard. Who told you it was going to be easy? I don't think you are the first person that found working and going to college difficult, nor will you be the last. What do you suggest as an alternative? Perhaps a national policy stating: "Every college student is entitled to grants and loans sufficient to allow them to concentrate totally on their education." That sound like the kind of hare-brained scheme that Mondale would endorse whole-heartedly. Just becuase you decided to get educated is no reason for society to support you while you do it. > Was Mondale an idiot because he > was realized that education was important? Mondale was an idiot because he didn't seem to realize that when you give somebody something for nothing, you have take it from someone else. When the productive members of society are not enjoying an increasing standard of living, they are reluctant to increase the share of their incomes going to the un-productive. > Sir, not to be snide or anything, but please, if you ever go to Peoria, IL, > in the near future, ask any Caterpillar worker what they think of > your so-called wonderful president. Will I have a job next week, next month, next year? I don't know. That's the way capitalism works. Nobody is guaranteed anything. I don't want anyone to get the idea that I voted for Reagan. I held my nose and voted for Mondale. I did so because I think Ronald Reagan is dangerous and out of touch. I did not vote for Mondale because he promised more goodies for everyone. If you want to talk about how bad Reagan is, how about this item from the news. "Organized Bombing of Abortion Clinics is NOT Terrorism, says FBI" What the hell is it? Legitimate political opposition? Does the Reagan administration support the bombing of the clinics, or are they just afraid to offend their pro-life supporters? I await your reply, my flame-proof suit is ready. -- John Muth (408) 746-6069 ...{nsc,hplabs,ihnp4}!amdahl!muth [The opinions expressed are those of the author and not necessarily those of Amdahl Corporation, its management, or employees.]
