Has anyone experience with the Penril Autoanswer/Autodial modems?
They are supposedly 212 compatible yet tip doesn't seem to be able
to drive them (with V831 or VENTEL or any other attributes).

Obviously I would prefer to NOT write a driver for the thing.

Funny thing is that they work fine as autoanswer modems...
at least getty can talk to them. Why then doesn't tip
have the intelligence to converse with them as autodialers?

Which side of the modem is the intelligence REALLY on?
