Parking spaces for the handicapped are common in lots all over the place,
but the constant abuse (at least in places I frequent) that they get, points
out an additional need which is not being met. I propose that an additional
space be marked off next to every handicapped space. This space would be
marked with its own special sign: a large green dollar sign. Only people
with huge, expensive cars with vanity plates would be allowed to park
in these spaces. Others would be towed. The new spaces would also be made
wider than normal ones, in deference to the valuable car doors and the
owner's driving skills.
With a scheme such as this we can accomodate the needs of both
the physically and mentally handicapped.
