Summary: 

There is an important distinction that should be made here:
  There are very few (if any) women that want to be mistreated.
However,
  a significant percentage of women are attracted to men
  who end up mistreating them.

The problem is that among the population of men there is a positive
correlation between some of the properties that make men
attractive to women and other properties that result in
these men mistreating their SO's.
