I'd like to see some discussion on the merits or disadvantages of
constructive raises. Does anyone out there have any feelings on the
subject? Also consider if being a passed hand makes a difference.

The definition of a constructive raise is generally a raise of opener's
major suit bid shows 8-9 points in support. Otherwise you must use a
forcing no trump call.

Obvious advantages include greater accuracy in game tries.
But sacrifices include lack of preemptive value and partner is never aware of
a suit fit for sure(you could take a preference with a doubleton).
Please comment on the relative value of these various points and others you
may bring up.
