Message-ID: <238@dataio.UUCP> Date: Mon, 3-Dec-84 12:25:52 EST Article-I.D.: dataio.238 Posted: Mon Dec 3 12:25:52 1984 Date-Received: Tue, 4-Dec-84 19:54:42 EST Distribution: net Organization: Data I/O Corp., Redmond WA Lines: 20 I haven't seen any definitive answers on this subject, so I thought I would post my views (not that they are definitive). It seems to me the original article was about RL02 disk packs, but that's long been expired. - Cleaning disk packs should be done as part of preventitive maintenance, *not* to repair an existing problem. - We clean our most heavily used packs 1-2 times a year. It is a simple procedure that is so fast you could even do it with a little down time, but we do it will the pack is "rotated out". - It is not economical to do this with an RL02, as the cost would rapidly pay for a new pack. Also, the recording density on an RL02 is not great enough that it is likely to make a very big difference.
