I am having a rather strange problem with a macwrite file of mine.

The macwrite refuses to read this file beacuse it claims to run out of
heap space, and when I try to "restart" the system from the cannon-ball,
the system hangs. The file I am trying to read was created using MacWrite,
and is only 16k, smaller than the second half of that document (created on
the same disk, the same day!) which is 17k.

I ran "Examine File" on it, and saw some major differences in the
Reg St Blk and the Reg Lg Len fields. All of the
Fndr * * values are the same for the two files.

Can anyone explain the different acronyms used in Examine File ?

Does anyone have any idea how I can recover these files? (I have
been able to write some forth and modula programs to strip off the
macwrite formatting stuff, so the data is not lost for GOOD, but I would
still like to be able to figure out what is wrong !!)

(Oh yeah, I have tried both double clicking the file, as well as
opening it from within MacWrite ... to no avail.

I also tried opening it on a Fat Mac, and that bombed too!)

Also - does anyone know of a utility analogous to Examine File which
allows you to actually change the values of the fields which Examine File
shows?

(I just noticed that "Examine File" identifies itself to be "File Scan"
...)

Thanks, and please cc any comments to me!
