I've never seen much use for the special 'temporary' call signs -
eg the "AB2IAU" that I could have used (but didn't) during the US Bicentennial
in 1976, although I think special event calls like WF5AIR (a call used for
a station at a fair a while back - I don't remember when but it was written
up in QST sometime in the 70's) are appropriate for special stations at the
events - as are the commemorative QSL's they generally provide. I also think
the FCC should allow club stations to apply for calls that reflect the name
of their organization (if the call is unassigned), e.g. Southwestern State
College (not intended to be a real institution) might ask for somthing like
N2SSC.
