Summary: neat for graphics screen dumps, not so good for character quality, speed about 60 cps. No word yet on noise level. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Subject: Pr2300 response I am afraid I am in software and not hardware. I have never seen nor used an Olivetti PR2300 printer. However, I did some searching around for documentation and asked other people their opinions. The people I asked said this printer is more of a graphics printer than a correspondence printer and it is NOT letter quality. However, I have not seen it print so I can not confirm this. I do suspect this is so however as it is a dot matrix printer. Following is the technical information from the user's manual: Printing Technique: non-impact (dry ink jet), dot-matrix, on normal paper; bidirectional with optimized print head runs alphanumeric printing or plotter mode, selectable via interface Character Matrix: 7x7, with 10 and 12.2 char/in pitch (11,9 x8 pixel box) 5x7, with 18.3 char/in pitch (6x8 pixel box) Print Pitch: 2.54mm (10char/in) 2.00mm (12.2 char/in) 1.38mm (18.3 char/in) selectable via interface Character Size: height: 2.11mm (.09in) width: 1.38mm (.05in) with 10 char/in pitch double size chars (double width and/or double height), selectable via interface Character Sets: 96 chars (ISO - Ascii), for 8 national alphabets, selectable via interface (or DIP switches) Print Speed: 50 lines (80 chars) per minute =4000 cpm =66.7 cps =~667 Baud Maximum length of print line: 203.2mm (8 in), (864 pix) corresponding to: 80 chars, with 10 char/in pitch (11 pix) 97 chars, with 12.2 char/in pitch (9 pix) 147 chars, with 18.3 char/in pitch (6 pix) Plotter resolution: horizontal: 1/108 (.00926) inch = .235 mm vertical: 1/216 (.00463) inch = .118 mm Paper Movement: pin feed for fan-fold (continuous) forms, with fixed left and movable right tractor friction feed for paper rolls There is more but my fingers are getting tired. I think what I have given you is the important information from the manual. So I guess my presumption is this is a good graphics printer but not a letter printer. --------------------------------------------------------------------- Subject: Re: Olivetti Inkjet PR-2300 query I was looking to purchase the same printer when they had a similar ad in the middle of the summer. i had Olivetti send me a print sample, and I was not very impressed with it. It was OK for dot matrix, but it was too fuzzy for letter quality. I am pretty sure that those are correct recollections, but I may be mistaken. The one thing I remember for sure, was that after I received the print sample I was glad i didn't buy the printer. Hope I have been of some help, P.S. You may want to phone Olivetti/Docutel for a print sample
