SHEEEESHHHHH! The new PLUS/4 computer (and probably the C-16; I lent mine out) is FUBAR in the joystick/keyboard interaction department. Both joysticks insert a character into the keyboard buffer for any movement. It would have been nice (and a little cute) if the pattern of keys return corresponded to a key pattern equivalent to a joystick, but, NNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOO! For example, if you push joystick #1 in a patter up, right, down, left, you get 5, 6, D, & R printing on the screen. Push the fire button, and you get a T. That's all, just a T, no matter where else the joystick is pushed. Diagonal movement has no unique output, either. On the slightly plus side, the PLUS/4 joysticks (remember they won't take regular joysticks) are out, and are somewhat of a pleasant surprise. A reasonably high-quality stick, for only $8.95 each! I suspect CBM is worried about backlash for the non-standard stick. We've had some netnews/mail problems around here, so if anyone missed my +4/C-16 reviews, let me know, and I'll mail it to you. If a whole lot want to see it (I should be so lucky) I'll repost... identifying it as a repeat, of course. To the gennelman to asked where to get speedscript: I can't get mail through, but you can probably get the back issue of Compute's Gazette for January 1984 from Compute. Cost is probably less than $5.00. You might even be able to buy one of the Gazette disks; this will save mucho time typing in the program.
