For example, "w!" in vi means "really write this file; don't warn me about possible problems". May I suggest that you use two different commands along the lines of "followup" and "followup!", which is analogous with these editors and with notes? "followup!" would mean "followup, include the text". Then when you are trying to get new users started, you just explain "followup", and mention that "followup!" exists.
