The purpose of mod.movies, like net.movies, is to further discussion of all
aspects of film and film making. As moderator of this group, I see my role
as one of organization and protection more than as one who controls discus-
sion. To this end, I propose the following hybrid newsgroup organization:
(1) Reviews -- Good movie reviews are encouraged and need to be out on a
timely basis. These will be posted virtually untouched by the moderator
as a first priority. A review should not be a plot summary and should
definitely not contain spoilers.
(2) Technical Articles -- Informative articles about film techniques,
special effects, film history, etc. are also encouraged and will be
posted as soon as possible.
(3) Spoiler Discussions -- Spoilers will always be clearly marked with
the string <<>> in the Subject line along with a clear
reference to what movie is being discussed. I will distribute these
separated by each movie as the quantity or quality of the discussion
warrants.
(4) Film Polls -- In addition to maintaining various movie polls suggested
by readers, I intend to maintain a continuous Usenet Film Poll to be
posted monthly. Votes should contain the name of the movie and
a ranking from 0 (terrible) to 10 (wonderful).
(5) Misc -- Rumors, bits of news, requests for information, etc will be
put out in digest form at least once a week or as material warrants.
Responses to requests will be summarized or excerpted with attribution
depending on the nature of the request and the response given.
Comments and further suggestions (and criticisms) are, of course, welcome.
Submissions to mod.movies, votes for the film poll, flames at the moderator
and whatnot should be directed to movies@ecsvax. ecsvax is connected
directly to mcnc and should not be too difficult to reach. Until we get
the software situation straightened away, mod.movies may appear to be
generated from mcnc.
