I certainly hope that (and I imagine this goes without saying, of course) that
this Shatner-not-in-ST-anymore rumor is false, but...one never knows. It seems
strange, though, because I saw Shatner on Good Morning America not more than
two or three weeks ago; Hartman asked him about Star Trek 4, and Shatner replied
they were planning to begin filming next summer for a Christmas 85 release. I'm
not trying to dispute the credibility of the original posting, but it just seems
that if Shatner didn't want to do ST anymore, he would have begged off on the
question or maybe asked Hartman in advance not to mention ST at all. But he
certainly did NOT avoid the question; I believe I read in one article in a mag
that said the schedule would begin filming after the current production season
for T.J. Hooker was completed. It could be a miscommunication; maybe Paramount
wanted to start ST4 earlier that planned, and Shatner would be unable to start
any earlier than next summer.

More conjecture: There was considerable talk that Shatner wanted to direct ST4.Perhaps since it was ultimately decided that Nimoy would helm it instead has
caused some sort of problem....(?)

Well, only time will tell. I think any movies past Star Trek 4 are a distinct
longshot, anyway....
