We are looking into getting a small vax to support four programmers doing
mostly editing (emacs), with C and Fortran compilations in the background.
We need 40-60 MB of disk. DEC recommends the 730, but people have complained
about them being "slow". I have heard marvelous rumours about the uVAX II
being significantly faster; however, our local DEC sales rep was vague on
the product's capabilities and pricing (and everything else).

Any suggestions on an appropriate configuration? How real is the uVAX II
and how fast is it? Should we wait for it? Any comments would be
appreciated (directly to me, since I am not on the infovax list).

Thanks.... Don Krasnick, Human Designed Systems
