I don't know anything about the security of symbolic links, but I do know
something about their expressive power.  We use RCS for our multi-person
project revision control, and the ability to place a symbolic link in each
team member's working source directory, each link pointing to a common
master source directory, is an elegant solution to the common sourcing
problem; one which requires no changes to RCS or wierdness in the Makefile.
