"Crypto-", Ken, with a "Y". And I had no idea Tim was from Liberia! >> There ARE times when it is necessary to invade, go to war, stand up for >> what is right and against what is wrong in someone else's backyard. Sure. Not that the US has that motivation. When the natives decide to nationalize our corporations, we get involved. When a dictator commits all sorts of human rights atrocities, we usually don't care. >> Your limp wristed, pie in the sky, wishful thinking crap would lead us >> right into WWIII with a side trip along the way to sit back and watch >> our fellow man all over the globe put through the wringer by any tinpot >> dictator (right or left) who could scare up the price or credit for a >> few arms. As opposed to your here-and-now, oh-so-manly, Gott-mit-uns crap. Over- simplification by any political philosophy is dumb. "Good guys"/"bad guys" belongs in the movies. Geopolitics is a game of self-interest, not manifest destiny. >> The plain fact is the the good ole U.S of A. is the ONLY power able to >> counter the dark forces (you know who THEY are!) and their factotums. >> That gives us a MORAL duty to speak for the weak, etc. Of course we >> don't do it perfectly!!! Oh Ken, if you ever get past philo. 101, please try "History of American Foreign Policy from WWII to Present." But watch out--you won't find any of your ample supply of "Captain America" comic books on the reading list! The question is not "which side is better?". I'm with you--I think we *DO* have a moral obligation to intervene when human rights are threatened. So how come we only intervene when our profits are threatened? Answer--we don't. American interest in the world is multi-faceted and constantly changing. It behoves all Americans to try to understand it and change what we don't like. "Dark forces"? Who are we, the "light forces?" Gee, I'd never thought of it that way-- super-power politics as a beer commercial: Less filling! Tastes great! >> All this talk about our designs on the world really makes me laugh... No it doesn't. It so infuriates you that you can't even see straight. *THAT*, of course, makes me laugh. But it's OK, your childish ignorance is not your fault, Ken. I don't blame you--I blame society :-) >> Keep your stupid opinions to yourself, slime face! >> Ken Arndt Ha-ha-ha-ha. Hey, watch the blood pressure, guy. -- *** *** JE MAINTIENDRAI ***** ***** ****** ****** 30 Sep 84 [9 Vendemiaire An CXCIII] ken perlow ***** ***** (312)979-7188 ** ** ** ** ..ihnp4!ihuxq!ken *** ***
