The '3rd vertical increment' refers to the fact that the IDS is rather unusual in that it keeps the upward, downward, and 'other' vertical increments. As far as I know, the :ii: entry which describes this is NOT used by Fortune software, it is there just for completeness. (I don't even remember what it does.) Might I suggest that you get the current man pages for printcap(5) from Fortune (or your dealer), rather than trying to convert an (especially and IDS!) entry. \EL - set form length \ED - set upward vertical increment \EB - set downward vertical increment \EC - set 'third vertical increment' \EJ - set margins (both right AND left) \ER - select alternate char set \EG - move head to given horizontal position.
