  San Francisco--A woman in a tan trenchcoat
leaned over and placed a single yellow  lily 
on  the  flat, gray cement floor in front of 
the black, should-high  picture  panel  that 
ran  the  length  of the right side of Grace 
Cathedral which sat on a hill in the  middle 
of  the Tuesday morning fog that had started 
to swallow up part of the city and  the  bay
