I'm glad you posted that question to net.flame, Jeff, since I doubt you were looking for a serious response. The answer, of course, is "no". For example, I approved of Carter's deregulation of the airline industry. What's that you say? Oh, I see. I must be mistaken about Carter deregulating the airline industry. After all, Reagan says that Democrats support regulation; and Reagan is an honorable man. Let's try another example, then. I strongly oppose Reagan's proposal to require former government employees to submit anything they might write for government approval before publishing it. Oops! That was probably a measure vital to the security of the United States. Forgive me for thinking it was a regulation. To be honest, I must confess that I do believe that regulation can cure *some* problems. For example, when after ten years of EPA regulation of water polutants, the Androscogin looks like a river again, I am naive enough to think I am viewing a cause and effect relationship. Dear me, I seem to have overlooked the fact that environmental regula- tions can increase the cost of production and thereby decrease the GNP. At this point I must confess to an even greater heresy, which is that I do not view increasing the GNP as the greatest good. No doubt you have just written me off as a loony. It's clear from Ronald Reagan's record on the environment that he would agree with you. And that is why I am going to vote for Walter Mondale. Kenneth Almquist
