I think you may have hit upon something here. And I can
speak from experience. I was called a tease by some men when I
was in college. You have to understand that discovering your
sexuality is a very confusing and often scary experience. You're
continually re-evaluting the choices and you try to make decisions
in an area where you have no experience to help you. It certainly
made me think a lot.
How well does this hold with men that are 25 years old
or more? (And you thought I forget the original question.) I think
in applies in quite a few cases, especially today because the
decision is clouded by all sorts of outside issues. A person
is attracted to another person. They go out on a date, passions
run pretty hot. All of a sudden, nothing happens. Why? Millions
of crazy things are running through these people's heads. "If
we do it, we'll never be able to be friends again."(If you believe
that fooling around doesn't interfere with friendship, I want
to show you a bridge in Brooklyn that's for sale.)"But I'm horny,
and it's been 9 months!" "She'll/He'll think I'm lousy in bed."
(Performance anxiety hits women and men these days.) "Maybe I'll
get herpes!!" That's only a few of the things that race through
your head.(But I don't have to tell you folks that.)
I don't think the sexual revolution has made these decisions
any less difficult. The motivations and hang-ups have changed, but
they didn't go away. I can't offer a solution to these problems,
aside from making sure both parties are drunk(but you may still have
to face that person again, possibly with a hangover).
Gee, isn't sex an incredibly complicated subject? Sure keeps
life interesting though.
