   Well, there are a number of ways to identufy SOME of the rings without
using identify scrolls. Here are some examples:

(1) regeneration : Put a ring on when your HP are NOT full and make a few
moves. If your HP increase by one per move the ring is regeneration.

(2) stealth : If you see a wimpy monster like K,S,H etc. sleeping in a room
put on the ring and move around it. If the monster doesn't wake up in the time
you take one round around it, it has to be stealth.

(3) add strength : obvious as soon as you put it on.

(4) searching, slow digestion, teleportation etc.: You have to keep these on
for a long enough time to find out, unless you are lucky e.g. in case of
searching or teleportation.

      Of course most of these tricks are applied with two risks:

   (1) ring may be cursed.

   (2) you may waste some food so most of the tricks are applied only
when you have atleast 3-4 food items.
