Or > am I just paranoid? I can't speak for California, but Amherst (N.Y.) has a lot of orientals, chiefly students at the State University. (Until about a year ago, the University's stipends for grad students were so low, and local rents so high, that most American students could get a better deal almost anywhere else. Orientals made up something like 40% of the graduate student body.) And yes, there seems to be a good deal of anti-oriental feeling in Amherst, though not at the University itself. I suspect that with so few black people in Amherst, her hateful souls must find some- body else to hate. I do not know whether this feeling extends to interracial dating, but it seems likely. Does anybody know of manners, clothing, or the like, that will help to defuse anti-oriental animosity? -- Col. G. L. Sicherman ...seismo!rochester!rocksanne!rocksvax!sunybcs!gloria!colonel
