Well, one usually hopes that, once a year, one comedy and one drama will pop
up that is truly entertaining. Come to think of it, I can't remember what
qualified last year (Cheers & Hill Street & St. Elsewhere were already
around), but this year, at least the comedy end has been kept up. The Cosby
Show is very, very funny, due almost entirely to Bill Cosby. I've been a
fan of his for years; the reason I bought a stereo was not to play music on,
it was that my parent's mono player wouldn't play Cosby's records. He has
transformed his humor, over the last decade, from looking at things from a
kid's point of view to that of a parents, but he has lost none of his
ability to spot and mine humor in this area, and this show displays that.
This is not a maudlin sit-com... in fact, there is a scene where his son
explains that he feels that his parents are expecting too much of him, as
they are professionals (Cosby plays a pediatrician, and his wife is a
psychiatrist); it sounds just like something out of your average "Happy
Days" episode (there is even applause from the stage audience, ala "The
Jeffersons"); Cosby shatters the mood (and my composure) by saying "That's
the DUMBEST thing I've ever heard!" I laughed HARD at least 5 times during
the season premiere, and was chuckling continously. Cosby seems to be in
complete creative control here, and that bodes well for the rest of the
season. It would seems that NBC's excellent Thursday night is now even
better. Give this sucker an A+ -- watch it!

					Be there. Aloha.
