Regular net.auto readers may remember a few months ago I wrote
my grand essay suggesting a different attack on the 55 MPH
limit, i.e. a driving boycott and a publicity blitz in the
general media aimed at producing a purely emotional anti-55
sentiment. (I may still have a copy on line if anyone wants
to see it.) I sent copies of this essay off to four major
auto magazines. This month, Car&Driver published an excerpt
from it* with no comment about following up on any of the other
ideas in my letter. Oh well, so much for that plan.....

*I say I'll never learn because publishing excerpts of reader
letters seems to be a common thing with magazines. A few years
back, U.S. News&World Report published a letter of mine - after
cutting out one of three paragraphs.
