        I'm glad to see this hashing out of the girl/woman issue, since
  it gives me a chance to ask this. Having gone through the various
  phases of growing up and seeing the eventual discouragement of such 
  terms as chicks, babes, girls, etc..., I've switched to using the 
  term gal without running into any apparrent resentment or ridicule.
 It seems as if this might be reasonable compromise, any comments?
