Somewhere I seem to remember seeing a mounting for turntables to isolate
them from room vibrations, and I think it was made of Sorbothane ((R)
Sorbothane Corp.). This is a funny, rather squishy rubberlike substance -
hard to describe.

Anyway, I can't remember or find where (I think) I saw the ad; maybe it was
just an artifact of a cosmic ray on some neurons. Still, it seems like a
good idea, and I've noticed that you can buy Sorbothane for things like
shoe sole pads and bicycling gloves, where its purpose is to absorb shock.
I don't know where else you might buy it, but it seems you could use one of
these sources to get some flat pieces to support and isolate a turntable.

Any thoughts on this? I haven't tried it, so I don't know just how good it
is at absorbing the sort of shock that annoys a stylus/tonearm; I also
don't know what sort of resonances it might encourage instead of damping.
It's just interesting stuff and an interesting little idea to play with.
