I think what Anita was trying to point out is the human tendency to
assume that all is well with the status quo until information showing
otherwise is encountered and dealt with. ``Conciousness raising'' is
usually a matter of sharpening perceptions by exposing oneself to
alternate viewpoints and accepting, rejecting, or modifying them based
upon personal experience.

Of course, some people have a strong hostility to alternate viewpoints,
and thus are poor candidates to having their conciousnesses raised.
This can be as true of a radical feminist as it is of any male chauvinist.

It's a pity; a life that is invulnerable to change is hardly worth living.
