Sicherman > ...seismo!rochester!rocksanne!rocksvax!sunybcs!gloria!colonel Single viscosity motor oils are much better than multi-weight oils in as much as they provide better protection and increased longevity..... there is a catch though...a single weight motor oil is better only as long as the operating temperature does not vary widely.A multi weight is designed to provide protection over a wide range of operating temps and thus is a com- promise.Perhaps if you described your application I could be of more help. As a rule I stick with single weight oils and change the viscosity as the season demands...I have had good luck so far(many of my cars run reliably to 200+K miles).
