What *I* said was 'trigger', not 'cause'.  When you note the difference between
proximate cause and ultimate cause, you see that you just said the same thing
that Lisa Chabot and I said--that Fritz's call for revenge is nothing but, to
use your words, "[a] populized excuse[] to drum up public support for the war
effort.."  Mondale is the one who we see trying to drum up support for
war--that's why those of us who prefer peace to war are supporting Reagan.
