It is interesting that throughout Rosh Hashonah the fact that it is also
Rosh Chodesh is pretty well hidden. Offhand I can only remember one reason
Bircat Hachodesh is not said:
  (although I am sure there are others)
  If we were to announce the coming Chodesh, this announcement would awaken
the Yetser Harah (Satan), who would promptly do everything in "his" power
to foil our day of Judgment.  Therefore, mum's the word.
