NASA has announced that space shuttle mission 51-A, to launch in early
November, will retrieve two satellites which were sent into useless orbits
last February due to the failure of attached solid rocket motors.
Astronauts Joseph P. Allen and Dale A. Gardner will use the manned
maneuvering units to propel themselves away from the orbiter vehicle
Discovery and berth Palapa B-2 and Westar 6 in the orbiter's cargo bay
after other payloads have been delivered on that mission. The satellites
will then be refurbished and used again.
