In particular during the AL LCS, they would show a replay of a pitch that had be within inches of the corner(of the plate) and said things like "you can't compare these amateur umpires with those who have dedicated their lives to the game" (take a guess as to who said that one). Just because the umpire called it a strike and the player (who OBVIOUSLY KNEW BETTER :-)) complained! There is NO WAY that someone looking at a pitch from the center field camera can tell if that pitch has hit the corner of the plate! NO WAY! The long range lense flattens out everything so that you have no perspective, and secondly, the angle that you're looking at the plate prohibits you from seeing the pitch accurately! I know high-school umpires who (1) know the rules as well as and (2) can call a game as well as some of the major league umpires BY THEMSELVES. Ah well.... Bob Switzer
