What?? I always thought that ':-)' was a smiley face turned on its side (':' = eyes, '-' = nose, ')' = grin). That's why I figured ':-|' would be good as a seriousness-indicator, and perhaps you could even use ':-(' to indicate distress or depression about something. As far as I'm concerned, '-:)' looks like someone with a misplaced nose. The other thing I find moderately amusing is referring to these symbols as acronyms. I'd doubt any normally accepted definition of acronym would include these.
