I didn't see or infer a smile here so I take it that Mr. Wexelblat is serious.

First, I am new to the net. I have seen countless grammatical errors...and
probably have seen countless more and not realized it... in the course of
reading these wonderful [:-) ? ] articles that have been made available to
me. I have been able to "read" all of them, although understanding them is
is another matter.

Second, I believe that any of the "netters" that are authorities on the use of
grammar should make themselves known. At least we would have less difficulty
choosing which answer to believe (or would we?).

Third, and *lastly*, why don't people look things up before they *flame on* ?
Lastly is in my Webster's Ninth (they claim to be an "authoritative guide to
good usage") and they even mention the uses for an apostrophe, one of which
is "to indicate....the plural of letters or figures"...So IC's are plural
but "IC's" (*read* I C apostrophe s) is singular. Albert Einstein said
that he never committed anything to memory that could be looked up somewhere.
Had something to do with leaving room in there for the contemplation of
important matters, like relativity and curved space and...

"I'm not an Authority and therefore not afraid to make use of one. I don't
 need to know it all."
