Can anyone seriously suggest that >"bachelor" has any of the negative connotations of the equivalent feminine >"slut"? These two equivalent terms carry the implied connotations that >promiscuity is ok for men, but not for women. What did you expect? >Equality? >-- >(Sunny :-> Kirsten of Sun Microsystems Inc.) > > Hold on just a minute! I am not at all prepared to concede that "bachelor" and "slut" are two equivalent terms. Where did this come from? (And don't say the dictionary.. I've checked) To me a bachelor is typically an unmarried man, usually fairly young (at least not ready to collect his social security yet). Granted, just because you are old doesn't exclude you from being a bachelor, but this is my typical picture when you say bachelor. This is far from the picture I get when the word "slut" is used. To assert that the two are anywhere near equivalent terms is ridiculous! We're going to have a hard time discussing anything intelligently if we can't even agree on basic terminology. Does everyone else out there think that bachelor <--> slut? If so, excuse me, I must have wandered into the wrong place... ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ (Yes, I'm a bachelor still, but it's OK, I'm getting married soon to a woman whom I love very much and who loves me just as much right back; so I guess there's some solace in knowing that there will soon be one less sleazy ol' bachelor on the prowl...:-) Mark Modig ..ihnp4!btlunix!mom
