[ how do i say this without being self-condemning ? ]

This is a flame/comment against flaming in net.jokes. The joke follows.

The following article was posted:

Now, I would send mail, but I doubt (the nameless) gts@dmcnh ever reads his
mail, as full of flames as it probably is; also, this is to discourage
others who may have somehow thought his proposal had any worth. Besides,
I saw no ":-)" indicating it as farce.

We have "net.flame" for just this purpose!! Use it if you must, but keep
net.jokes "clean" (or dirty, rotated :-) ).

THE JOKE (of sorts) (a long pun)

Once upon a time, in a pasture close to nowhere, a mare gave birth to
two colts, which she named Ned and Ted. Now Ned and Ted grew and grew,
and developed into fine young stallions. One day, while they were grazing,
Ned had a new idea. "Ted," he said, "I know that we had the same mother,
and drank from the same trough, and ate the same meals, and roamed the same
hills, but I think I'm faster than you. Let's race to that tree over there."
Ted replied, "Well now, I think not; indeed, although I know that we
had the same mother, and drank from the same trough, and ate the same meals,
and roamed the same hills, surely I'm faster than you."

So they raced, but to no avail -- they both reached the tree at the same
time. However, this dash toward the tree *did* catch the attention of one
of the newest farm animals -- a young puppy named Fred.

The next day, Ted said, "Ned, I know that yesterday we tied, and that we
had the same mother, and drank from the same trough, and ate the same meals,
and roamed the same hills, but I *still* think I'm faster than you. Let's
race again." Ned responded, "Indeed, we had the same mother, and drank
from the same trough, and ate the same meals, and roamed the same hills,
but I *must* be faster than you." Fred, the puppy, was thoroughly curious
by now.

[ See why Ned's idea was a "new" one?? ]

So again they raced, with the same result -- a tie.

The next day, the challenge was repeated, this time by Ned. The poor
puppy was quite puzzled, and as the pair of horses raced to their goal,
Fred walked off, back to the barn, muttering, "Strange,

I didn't know horses could talk..."
