It is, as distributed, LOTS more stable than 2.10.1 ever was despite > my most motivated hacking (I even tried LINTING 2.10.1... *ack*). People > who are waiting are fooling themselves-- this stuff was done right, folks, I'll second that. It's not as good as rn, of course, but 2.10.2 is quite nice. Wish it had been on the 4.2 bsd tape. Hmm, let me list the reasons for converting that I know of. 1) Zaps notesfile garbage. 2) Sortactive lets you see newsgroups in the order *you* want. 3) No more time warp. 4) Postnews is much nicer. 5) Aliases for net.trivia, etc. 6) Distributions seem to work now. 7) Control of whether a newsgroup can be posted to. 8) A good batching scheme. 9) Optional compression for batching. 10) Support for moderated groups. Posting to a moderated group will send mail to the moderator. And the moderated stuff seems to work now. 11) Multiple groups get seen only once. 12) The "b" command in vnews is fixed. 13) Followup includes the article you are replying to so you can excerpt it. This is much easier than hunting for the article so you can make quotes. Too bad many people are too lazy to edit out the irrelevant parts. Wish reply did this too. There's probably more I'm not familar with. -- Phil Ngai (408) 982-6554 UUCPnet: {ucbvax,decwrl,ihnp4,allegra,intelca}!amd!phil ARPAnet: amd!phil@decwrl.ARPA
