In the process of tuning up my car, my mechanic said that he had a very hard
time getting the emissions down to state levels, and that I would quite
possibly need a valve job. The car, an 8-year-old Volare with 96000 miles,
has not given me any major trouble, but I'm uncertain about how long it
might last. It has been going through some oil, but the exhaust is never
blue. I use the car for commuting only (8 miles each way), and don't expect
that I'll ever ask it to drive more than 75 miles from home again. Other
factors being equal, I'd like to get about 2 more years out of it before
replacing it.

Comments? Advice? Guidelines on what a valve job might cost here in the
heart of New Jersey? Does it make sense to try to keep the car going?
