Message-ID: <507@tty3b.UUCP> Date: Thu, 20-Sep-84 11:38:33 EDT Article-I.D.: tty3b.507 Posted: Thu Sep 20 11:38:33 1984 Date-Received: Tue, 25-Sep-84 19:43:20 EDT Organization: Teletype Corp., Skokie, Ill Lines: 25 On Wednesday morning, September 19th, around 6:25 AM, as I was about to leave for work from Wheeling, Illinois, I thought I heard two long blasts from a *STEAM WHISTLE*. I knew there was a steamer in the Chicago area, but didn't expect it to use the SOO Line. I watched the tracks (the only ones near our house) for about five minutes, and saw first a northbound, and then a southbound freight. I did not see a steam engine in the consist of either. CLUES: The lead engine on the south- bound was not a SOO line engine, but was grey with a dark green diamond logo. Neither train paused in the siding. It is single track both north and south of there. I had been outside for a few minutes before I heard it, but a steamer traveling light might not have made enought noise to attract my attention. I did not see any smoke in the sky. DID I HEAR WHAT I THOUGHT I HEARD?
