Well, the results are in on the 'What does Chuqui look like' contest. At
the bottom of this article are all of the replies where you can look at
them if you want. Actually, the replies are pretty much beside the point.

What IS the point, you might ask? [~Ok, chuq, what IS the point?~] Gee, I
thought you'd never ask. The point is that there is a rather wide range of
responses in here, which implies that different people view me
differently. Well, so what, you might say [~Ok, chuq, so what?~] oh, be
quiet! One of the problems net.singles has had in the last few months has
been an exasperating amount of flaming over rather trivial matters. We all
stopped talking and started yelling (one normal side effect of a yell is
that the ears disconnect from the brain to allow greater volume). When
people DID sit down and compare notes, many times they actually views
things in similar ways but misread or misinterpreted postings. This
network has a very limited information bandwidth. We don't have the visual
or vocal cues to help us understand the meaning behind the words. It is
VERY easy for people to become confused over just about anything. The fact
that everyone views me slightly different shows how easy it is for people
to view the exact same thing (since I assume you have all read all of my
postings, everyone has seen the same me...) differently. I hope that this
excercise helps to remind all of us (myself included) to work a little
harder at making our own point of view clearer and less likely to be
misunderstood, and to work a little harder at trying to understand others
points of view. If that happens, we are all winners. We should all be
friends out here-- we don't NEED to flame, we can talk instead. I hope we
do so more in the future.

Oh, for the record-- I am 26, of germanic decent and germanic build (a
rather heavy bone structure) 5'8", 220 pounds, lightish brown short hair,
glasses (contacts hopefully next week, schedules permitting), and no
facial hair. I refuse to get subjective about myself-- you'll have to see
it for yourself and judge. Oh, yes, and I'm single. Or I will be in
November.

The winner of the prize and what that prize is will be notified by male.
or something like that.

Umm, lessee,...there is the chuqui on the couch, with toga, grapes,
other degenerate paraphenalia. Actually we all know that it doesn't
matter what chuqui's co-workers think he looks like (my guess is that
the hair color is right, but no beard) since it's all make-up covering
a vicious space alien (wants us to, ugh!, be loving and caring and other
terrible things), bear-descended so mostly large enough to be even tempered
(tho occasionally gets up on the wrong side of the, umm, bed and has a
NASTY side then--after all, is merely, umm, humanoid), but a little
too big to be exactly cuddly....

Let's see -- portrait of an imagined chuqui -- well, I have several choices.
(a) tall, aesthetic, grizzled, painfully thin, hunched, with a brilliant smile.
(b) a touch chunky, quite average in description, very serious demeanor.
(c) David Bowie with (with what? with makeup, of course).

From rohn@rand-unix

I think I would place you in the 25-35 range, not 30-40, hair probably leaning
closer to brown than blond, not quite a "teddy bear", probably thinner.

From dartvax!betsy

I've always 'seen' you as late-twenties, olive-skinned, black-haired,
black-eyed, and slight.

From ptsfa!bdp

That's easy! You've got lots of frizzy orange hair, a spherical red nose,
*really* big feet, and a penchant for baggy clothes and greasepaint....

No?

OK, seriously.... I've always pictured you as medium height, late 20's to
early 30's, fairly thin, with black or dark brown hair and somewhat dark
skin; possibly Oriental or Asian. Don't ask me *where* I got this impression
from; I haven't a clue. In any case, it's my guess....enjoy (?).

From sdcrdcf!alan

I take you to be 23-27 years old, probably breaded, slightly
overweight, casual in dress, and probably single.

From sdcc3!arwen

Age: Around 26-28
Hair: Brown
Beard: Naaah
Weight: Average
Height: Around 5'10"
p.s. However, should you turn out to be thin, blond and tall, or any
combination of two of the three, be careful; I will be on the next
plane.

From loral!jlh

I had you pictured as oriental (the name), tall, about 6 feet or so, slim,
about 25 - 30 years old. You're probably german, 5 feet 2 inches, 360 pounds,
and 52 years old in real life, though. This should be interesting.
