 In India I remember catching mice live using mechanical traps. We will
keep some food inside (not poison!) to attract the same. I don't know 
where such traps are available here, in US. 
    By the by, I read somewhere that the great Pythogorous who was a 
vegetarian used to pay fishermen to throw back their catch back to
water when they are still alive!! That is the spirit of non-voilence.
