I discovered an excellent cat scrathing post by accident -- a big piece
of driftwood, about 5 feet long and 3 inches diameter, which I had stored
in my basement, was eargerly adopted by my cats as a scratching post.
It's slightly curved, and just lies on the floor.  They perch on it
and scratch, rather than reaching up -- seems to have the right texture
for them.  I was going to use the driftwood as decoration, but I'd rather
have driftwood splinters in the basement than couch splinters in the
living room...
