I believe the inventor was Jim Flanagan of the Acoustical Research Depatment. It used acoustical filters for the D/A conversion. There is also a digital microphone (acoustical A/D), making it possible to build a truly digital telephone set, i.e. no analog circuits whatsoever. Herman Silbiger .'
