While there must be dozens of others to add to your list, my favorite peeve
is the participant in the "Minnesota Gawker-Jam". This strange malady,
endemic to Minnesota, but observable elsewhere, occurs when all these
potential Good Samaritans slow down from their normal 54 mph (take no
chances, those displaced Norwegians!) to about 2 or 3 mph in order to watch
somebody beside the road. I have been involved in many such jams that were
the result of just a car sitting there. But each driver slows down, checks
out the car, and as soon as they have passed the object of their atention,
resume the standard 54 speed... Noone ever stops to actually help, of
course, but I think that *they* think they are giving comfort just by
showing they care enough to slow down and check things out.
