Although there are always exceptions, the article concluded that prepaying a mortgage was roughly equivalent to investing that perpayment at the mortgage rate. In other words, if you can find an investment with a yield higher than your mortgage rate you'd probably be better off putting your money there rather than prepaying your mortgage.
