There are genuine help groups and there are groups which try to use cult-like or deprogramming-like techniques. (Cost isn't an issue, either; some groups are managed by anti-xyzzy-fanatics to whom changing the world is more important than money--unfortunately, changing the world also turns out to be more important than helping you.)
