However, if you've got trouble with alcohol, drugs (how can that be?:-),
overeating, etc., CHECK OUT the credentials and techniques of the group
that purports to be able to help you before you get into it.  There are
genuine help groups and there are groups which try to use cult-like or
deprogramming-like techniques.  (Cost isn't an issue, either; some groups
are managed by anti-xyzzy-fanatics to whom changing the world is more
important than money--unfortunately, changing the world also turns out to
be more important than helping you.)

It's sad to have to make this sort of comment, 'cause if you're strung out
on one of these tough problems, it's hard to take a cold/calculated look at
an organization offering help.
