In our local area the Zayre's stores (a Target/K-Mart like discount
house) has a stated policy in their adds that if the item is advertised
other than as a close-out or limited quantity item, if the store runs out
you get a rain-check and a 10-15% (I forget which) discount.  Our
only experience with this policy was a positive one - the clerk cheerfully
gave us the raincheck with the discounted price marked right on it.
