Two more incompatible driving peeves are:

1) The Connecticut Stomp.

If you are stopped at a light and the car directly across from you has
his left turn signal on he will, in 95% of the cases, attempt to make
his left turn before you get off the line. Being new to the area and from
the flat-lands of Ohio, this is very disconcerting. The more I drive
in Connecticut the more I find that this is the local WRONG. The local
population has become trained to wait for the left turn before proceeding.

2) The Detroit Stomp

When the lights turn green in Detroit everybody stomps on the gas. If
you are first in line you had better hurry up, because the guy behind
you assumes you too are testing the 0 to 60 preformance of your car. (I
believe this is an example of operant conditioning. The timing of the
lights in Detroit assures you that if you blast off the line and make the
next light before it turns red, you can make the next 4 or 5 lights.)

-----

A friend of mine told me a story about when he was living in Detroit
and his brother-in-law, from Connecticut, came out to visit. You
guessed it. The Brother-in-law was driving and ended up first in line
at a stop light. Well he attempted the Connecticut Stomp and the
on-comming traffic preformed the Detroit Stomp. Fortunately, nobody
had more than their pride hurt. "But,...But,...I do this all the time."
