Sorry, but I read your article (for content :-)), and you're WRONG. (* FLAME ON! *) The printed word is about a 35% effective method of communications (if you want to give talking face-to-face 100%, which it isn't *). You don't get any body english, or tone of voice, or accent, or inflection to help you understand what was said. Not only that, but most of the netters are trying to carry on debates about reasonably complex topics, and points which are very difficult to get across. In case you hadn't noticed, misunderstanding runs rampant on the net. ANYTHING which can be done to make an article clearer and easier to read is worth putting in -- and it's worth some EFFORT as well! If you can't find the appropriate spelling, then I suggest YOU go back to _Tip and Mitten_. If you don't care how stupid you make yourself look, or how few people understand what you're trying to say, then go right ahead and ignore the SIMPLE rules that you learned in elementary school (or did you?). (* FLAME OFF! *) Now, this bit doesn't belong (this IS net.flame), but... people who pick someone else's article apart for spelling or grammar mistakes are (all but) admitting that they can't really find anything else in it weak enough to pick upon. A person shouldn't take a single article to task for the author's lack of education (:-)), but it IS a good idea to use correct English when trying to get a point across. * from a class on "personal communications." ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ The opinions expressed in this document are my own.
