Here are the sizes of the distributed kernel (xpunix) and the kernel I'm running now (hkunix). Our system has only the following devices: 2 RK07, 1 RK05, 1 KL11, and 1 DZ11. This has allowed us to reduce the size of our system somewhat. % size xpunix hkunix text data bss dec oct 15872 + 5254 + 13406 = 34532 = 103344 xpunix 69248 total text, overlays: (8064,7936,7104,7616,7808,6784,8064) 15744 + 3454 + 13504 = 32702 = 77676 hkunix 54656 total text, overlays: (8128,7872,7424,8128,7360) In order to run 2.9 on an 11/24, it must be overlaid. It's rather fast, though, considering the hardware involved. In order to get 2.9bsd, you'll need an AT&T SYS V source license. -- Bob Hoffman, N3CVL Pitt Computer Science
