I just received their $30.00 documentation package which includes the Whitesmiths, Ltd. C Programmers' Manual, Instructions for Softworks C (pre-release 1 September 1984), a blank Software Library Use Agreement form, a photocopy of the August 28, 1984 Macintosh 68000 Development System Manual draft, and a letter from Apple stating that Softworks, Ltd. has the right to temporarily distribute certain parts of the Macintosh 68000 Development System. These Apple components include the Editor, Assembler, Linker, PackSyms, RMaker, and "various Text files". Softworks said over the phone that they will be distributing the Apple Assembler pre-release software until October 15th. (Does this really mean that Apple will be shipping the Package next month?) My real question is: Is there anything to recommend the Manx C over the Softworks C (Whitesmiths, Ltd.(?))? What I have found out so far, I have put in the table below: Manx C Softworks C Cost $199 (1) $395 (4) $499 (2) $249 (3) Availability 4-6 weeks Off the shelf Segment Support No - Overlays Yes - Apple ASM/LINKER Notes: (1) Manx Personal C Development System (2) Manx Commercial C Development System (3) Utilities Kit (make, grep, diff, Z editor) (4) Requires the purchase of the Apple Macintosh 68000 Development System (Softworks also says you need to buy INSIDE MACINTOSH as they do not duplicate any of the information contained within. Is this the same for the Manx documentation?). Can any one out there add anything else to this or give recommendations for or against either of these (or any other) packages? I will summarize anything I get back. Cheers, -Abdul- -------
