okay, now i'm calm enough to really talk about secret wars objectively.
i'm not going to get into the inconsistencies involved with dr. doom
defeating galactus and the beyonder in one issue. never mind that dr.
doom once tried to steal the silver surfer's power and couldn't even
hold onto that. never mind that one of dr. doom's stooges (albeit
unwitting), terrax, suffered burn-out from an overdose of "power cosmic" (which
now looks like "power comic"). i'm not going to mention that ascension
to godhood has been handled gracefully in the past (the korvac/michael
series in the avengers; the ancient one in dr. strange, etc).
i'm going to talk about obsessions and addictions.

what drives reasonable people to go out and waste 3/4 of a dollar
on something that they know will make them sick? more importantly,
what drives people (perhaps not reasonable) to write and try to sell
such garbage? the answer is addiction. we are poor comic book addicts
and jim shooter is the junkie - selling stuff he knows is no good for
anyone but as long as he can make a mega-buck.

and how do i justify my "habit"? i pretend that i'm paying
$1.35 for thor and i'm getting secret wars for free.
