Bernard Hinault won his fifth Grand Prix des Nations Sunday
and set a record average speed in doing so. The GP des Nations
is the most prestigious individual time trial on the profesional
circuit. This year's race was 55 miles long and, unlike most
US time trials, it is not flat. Hinault's average speed was
22 miles per hour for a finishing time of 2 hours, 50 seconds.

Following second place in the Tour de France with almost no team
support, this win seems to affirm that Hinault's knee problems
of '82 and '83 are behind him.
