The hilliest century I've ever heard of is the Grizzly Peak Century in
the hills behind Berkeley, CA.  The year I rode it (1978, and I only made
it through the first 50 miles), it was set up as sort of a figure-eight:
The first fifty miles was a loop to the north, ending at the starting point,
and the second fifty was another loop to the south, ending again at the
starting point.  If you make it through the entire century, you have climbed
(and descended) more than 9000 vertical feet!
