Handel was a pretty crummy text setter (Examples: "All we like sheep" and "FORE!! unto us a child is born" from Messiah, and "SAVE THE CRICKET!!!" from Il Penseroso) but his excuse was he didn't know English very well. There's no excuse for the way Bacharach set "if not I'll just, die-ie-ie" at the end of "TGILWY".
