Can someone suggest a good book on the most common (and
maybe even some not-so-common) chess openings?

While I'm at it: can someone explain the AN & DN notations
for openings? It seems cryptic.

Still no news about good chess computers, for those of
you who were wondering. If people don't know what the current
best machine is, how about some good ones?
