I've heard that they can be damaged by cold oil ratings of 20 or heavier. It supposedly doesn't provide enough protection for the rod bearings when the engine is cold. I've heard GM now recomends 5w-30 or 10w-40. I personally use 10w-50 when I can get it, 10w-40 when I can't. A straight 10 or 5 weight oil is just too thin. mikey at trsvax
