Having replaced	my ICOM	R70 receiver with an	R71A, I am
interested in learning	what modifications other owners	have
made to	their R71A's.

As a contribution, I shall relate my own failed experiment.
I replaced a	220K resistor on the logic board with a 47K
resistor and sped up the scan rate. At	this higher speed,
however, the memory scan became	useless, because when a	sig-
nal was	detected on a channel, the receiver	didn't	stop
scanning until the next channel. In	the SSB/CW/AM modes,
the squelch is AGC driven, so I	assume that this behavior is
due to the finite AGC attack time.

The logic board	in the R71A may	be used	in other ICOM	pro-
ducts,	because	there are holes	for another IC,	another	con-
nector,	and several other components. Maybe there are	some
"undocumented features"	waiting	to be discovered.

My R71A's noise	blanker	seems more effective than the one in
my R70. I've	also got the infrared remote control, speech
synthesizer, and FM board. Anyone have	any mods?
