the purple cows of summer, another classic.
inspired by rlj as a cure for hangovers.
(this is the debut for this poem. i.e. I just made it up.)

[the purple cows of summer]

one day last may
i spotted a cow
amongst the hay

i looked at him
he looked at me
then my head started to spin

the grass was blue
the sky was green
and this damn cow had a purplish hue

the clouds were pink
with lace
i think

and the river a bright red
(i had this feeling
that i might be dead)

then the sun set in the east
and i decided to go home
for a big feast

of hamburgers and fries
served by a clown
with stripes on his thighs

then i went to bed
and tossed and turned
till cobwebs filled my head

when i arose
everything was normal
except for my toes
they were purple!

CRITICISMS:

   roscoe (my dog) -
My problem with this poem is twofold. First, the rhyme scheme is
the worst that I have ever seen. Words are chosen by random so that
they will rhyme. I could have done better by picking words at
random. Secondly, the rhythm totally sucks. Again, the words are
completely at random. I, for one, think we should erase every
copy of this poem so that future generations won't think that we are
   completely insane.

   R. Reagan -
Gosh, that was one of the best poems I've ever read.

   Newsweak -
      "Incredible"

   National Enquirer -
Destined to become a classic with our friends on Venus.
