I am told that this is a true story, but am unable to verify it. It seems
that as part of the Espiscopalian wedding service, the priest would ask:
"Is there anyone that objects to this couple being lawfully joined?" This
practice was discontinued at a specific church in VA after the priest asked
at one wedding:

Is there anyone that objects to this couple being joyfully loined?
