Berkeley Lines: 20 [] I have found only 2 possible uses for a potion of levitation (basically these potions seem pretty useless to me). 1) If there is a trap (especially a dart trap) that I wish to avoid in front of a door then I can quaff the potion to step over it. 2) [This is the intended use, I believe] The potion gives a temporary "stealth" property. When one is levitating then one doesn't make any noise when walking around monsters. It could be useful when first entering a "party" room, if you knew it was there beforehand (e.g. if you had just quaffed "detect monster" or "detect magic" and detected lots of either). It doesn't last very long, but it can help. I discovered the 2nd property by accident when I had quaffed the potion on a low level and was being chased by a Black Unicorn and ran into another Unicorn.
