Let me clarify the purpose of net.motss. It is most emphatically NOT "for gay people to have their own little space where they didn't have to be constantly on the defensive because of their sexual orientation." That is, net.motss is *NOT* a net.woman.only type of newsgroup. It is open to all people regardless of their sexual orientation for rational discussion of gay issues. Questions of the type "is homosexuality good/bad" were explicitly ruled out, mainly for the reason that such discussions are pointless and engender only rancor. I do *NOT* want to see net.motss become a ghetto, however comfortable, for gay people, and for that matter, I do not want to see the mention of gay topics limited only to net.motss when they are appropriate for mention in other newsgroups. And finally, for those who are complaining about the recent "arguing" going on, I don't see it as an argument at all, for there is truly nothing to argue about. The gay people who have spoken up have spoken up not to argue, but to express their displeasure at being publically castigated as inferior. To take issue with this publically is NOT to try to argue some non-existent point, but to speak out and inform those who have made such statements that they will not be taken lightly AND that they will be disputed if such are made publically again. -- /Steve Dyer decvax!bbncca!sdyer sdyer@bbncca.ARPA
