You're not likely to wear the modem out by auto-dialing with
Touchtone.  That's just normal wear and tear.  Dialing with pulse
especially with some of Vadic's earlier modems (like the 3451PA) is
usually done by toggling the off hook relay.  Later modems such
as the Vadic 212a uses a reed relay with a longer life.

That relay is the weakest point in the modem and is the usual place
of failure.  If you can, use Touch Tone.
