Some time ago I tried to get Empire running on Eunice; I got most
of it to work, but several strange things about the way the program
worked (or failed to as the case may be) led me to believe that the
program uses the Unix feature of passing file handles to child
processes (a feature whose wisdom I have doubted, but it's there...
and it can make moving code which uses it a real pain...). Letters
to Peter Langston (net letters, not snail letters) went unanswered,
(or at least unanswered in a constructive way ... I got a couple of
letters along the lines of "I'll reply in a day or so"), so I concluded
that he is either unable or unwilling to think about the problems of
moving the program to eunice. If anyone is able to persuade Peter to
think about the problem, I would also be interested in a version which
ran under eunice.
