My brother's 1976 Civic CVCC also ate water pumps on schedule
although I think his were closer to being 25,000 miles apart.

After the second one, his mechanic replaced it with an after
market pump which was substantially beefier, albiet at twice
the cost. He claimed that it was "the last pump your car will
ever need".

If anyone's interested I'll try to get more info on the pump.
Be paitent, though. I'm going out of town all next week and
won't be able to answer my "mail"

PS
The pump's still doing fine with nearly 100k on the car. It's
lasted longer than the first two put together.
