I also get very tired of people equating being a secretary with being an idiot. I used to do the same until I worked as a secretary one summer. It was incredible to notice the difference between the way I was treated as a student and as a secretary. I knew I was intelligent, I did my job well, was friendly, helpful, but was still looked down upon by many people who did not even bother approaching me with an open mind. But more importantly meeting other secretaries made me realise how wrong I was in my stereotyping of them. I often wonder about men who make such statements as "you can only date so many secretaries". What do you guys expect from such "dates"? If you think in advance that you are going out with a moron, then why do you do it? Is it just for sex? if it is, the woman you are dating is probably intelligent enough to notice what your intentions are and how unninterested you are in actually finding out about her so why should she bother? Also, if you are so intelligent, how come you are not capable of accepting that there are many different types of intelligence? Granted that not all secretaries are intelligent just like not all computer scientists are intelligent, so if you do pick morons then why do you do it? to puff up your ego? if so, then don't complain later on. I'd also like to second that MIT report by women in Computer Science. Reading it made me feel very glad that I wasn't accepted in MIT in the first place (sour grapes!). We are lucky that things are not so bad here in Waterloo. Sophie Quigley ...!{clyde,ihnp4,decvax}!watmath!saquigley
