I have this theory that high tech types being libertarian is related to their frequent social ostracism. They felt left out in high school perhaps and even now feel unable to relate to the rest of society. THus, they have no sense of community with the rest of the world and really couldn't care less if it went to pieces. Their world view is one of introspection and self-satisfaction, rather than interaction with others.
