Some of the things you mention are actually things that we don't
need government for. Sure, you can subscribe to fire
departments, highways, and so forth, although I remain to be
convinced that things like highways could be properly handled by
anything but the government. But what happens when somebody
breaks into your house, or kills your family or something? Are
you going to 'subscribe' to a private police force to prevent
this, or catch the culprits? And what happens when the Russians
invade your town? You'll 'subscribe' to a privately run army, I
suppose.  You could subscribe to private judicial companies that
settle affairs between you and your neighbors, and put them in
their own private jails if they break the law. I think in this
sort of case you'd be better off living in a cave. There's a big
difference between 'less government' and 'no government'...
