Generally, Vulcans core-dump just before physical death. However, since once in a blue moon a Vulcan core-dumps and then it turns out that his body can be healed, the ritual of fusion is there to make up for such mistakes. Spock was one of those lucky few. You see, when Sarek said to Kirk: "Why did you leave him there?" (or something) he wasn't referring to Spock's body, but rather his soul. -Jack "1/256th vulcan" Applin (hplabs!hp-dcd!jack) P.S.: Oriental Vulcans???
