I'm not sure how well they live up to their claims, but I do know that
(according to a couple of people I've talked to) many drag racers use
the MSD ("Multi-Spark Device" ??). My limited experience has been with
helping out in the pits at a boat race, where the typical setup was a
flat-bottomed boat with a Chevrolet 454 c.i. V8. Apparently the MSD lets
them get by with less-than-perfect ignition systems, and thus allows them
to run at 10K+ RPM without missing. The MSD works *with* a normal ignition
system -- it uses the breaker points if you have them, and it can be hooked
up to a lot of stock electronic ignition systems as well.
