A book I would recommend on the topic of interpersonal communication is
"Why Am I Afraid to Tell You Who I Am?". If I recall correctly, the author
is Fr. John Powell; but don't be put off by that; there is actually very
little religion in the book; it spends its time on the main topic it chooses
to address -- relationships.

Much of what this book says has already appeared in articles in this
newsgroup (including the one to which this is a followup); but it still would
be worth reading.
