In fact this term is generally used to refer to anything east of the Rocky Mountains and some people use it when talking about any place east of the Cascade Mountains (just east of Seattle). I always thought that the following was correct: East: Anything east of Ohio (approximately) Midwest: Between Ohio and the Rockies West: Anything west of the Rockies A fellow engineer (born and raised here) recently informed me of my ignorance with the following message. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- I'd like to correct your geography. Out WEST here we can get just as geocentric as the people back east. So when you are here you must remember the following definitions: Far West: Everything West of the Olympic mountains. West: Everything from the Olympics to the Cascades. Mid-East: Everything from the Cascades to the Rockies. East: Everything from the Rockies to the Mississippi. Far East: Everything from the Mississippi to the Atlantic. Now if you get out a map of the US you will find this makes equal sense with putting Illinois in the MidWEST. So lets keep our location in mind when talk of geography comes up. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ I would like to here what you people in the "Far East" think of this.
