I need to install an ethernet LAN within four different buildings. It
looks like I will have to use repeaters to do so. Does anyone have
any words of advice they would like to share with me? I am a neophyte
when it comes to the ethernet. I do know that for the installation I want,
I will have to use at least one if not two repeaters. But I don't know
anything about them. Who makes the best? What do they cost? Are they
a lot of trouble or do they work? Can I put a Sun disk server on
one cable segment and a diskless node on a different segment with a
repeater in between them? Can the repeater really support 500 meters
of cable? Am I pushing any limit by having a 1500 meter long ethernet
setup? What are the advantages of remote connectors? Has anybody looked
at the new optical fiber ethernet connectors? How do they rate? Do I really
have to tear up a dollar bill for every ethernet node that I have?
Is there a Santa Claus?
