Removing it (a more pleasant word than "nuke") wouldn't cut the volume of junk -- it would just move into net.unix-wizards and/or other "useful" groups. Unfortunately, the only solution to the volume of junk requires changing the nature of USENET from a self-policed anarchy to a moderated, or semi-moderated set of discussion groups. (The Arpanet Human-nets and SF-Lovers are examples of moderated groups.) I have a gut feel that if system administrators can "moderate" submissions from their sites (postnews mails the submission to root which "releases" it further), we'll lose a valuable exchange of opinions and ideas -- and come to regret that loss. (Replies by mail, please -- I don't subscribe to net.news.group.) Martin Minow decvax!minow
