Vulcan Ritual would not necessarily be illogical.  Vulcans seem to have
always seen a value in maintaining traditions.  Also certain rituals might
be used to induce certain mental states.  There is a tone which produces a
feeling of awe in humans.  Many religions employ an instrument which are
capable of producing such tones.  Maybe the rituals produce the proper
mental states for the Vulcan mind transference procedure.

I must admit the temple Virgins seemed out of place.
