When Ma Bell was ordered to start letting people connect non-bell equipment
to their lines they were given the right to disconnect the line if that
equipment should somehow cause harm to the telephone network. You can argue
that a BBS that has calling card numbers available would in fact cause harm
to the network and therefore could be disconnected. I wonder how people would
react if they had just disconnected the line and blacklisted the Sys Op from
ever getting telephone service again?
