[sacrificing one goat on the altar of long dead bugs ]

I am confused! Did all the team members get put in one cell
when they went to jail or did each one get put into a separate
cell? (excessive use of pronouns, while accepted in the
vernacular, leads to sometimes glaring inconsistencies when
analyzed from the standpoint of strictly proper grammar.
The two sentences presented are not really correct, although
most of us would accept them, at least in verbal communications.

When in doubt, rephrase. e.g.

"Yesterday, the team won its first game. Afterwards,
the team members went out to celebrate."
