In typical Science Centre fashion, most of the exhibit will be a "hands-on" opportunity to experiment with the newest of computer art forms, plus films, demonstrations and workshops. Artists today, like artists of the past, use whatever materials are available to express their art. They eagerly seek new, exciting, even startling ways of creating their art. Inevitably they have turned to computers. THE ARTIST AS A YOUNG MACHINE lets explorers at the Ontario Science Centre take a look at how the latest in computer technology is extending the limits of everyone's traditional notions of art. THE ARTIST AS A YOUNG MACHINE will be a technological wonderland where visitors can express themselves in ways that until recently were only available in science fiction, not science centres. THE ARTIST AS A YOUNG MACHINE has been made possible by a grant from the Department of Communications' Special Program of Cultural Initiatives, the Honourable Francis Fox, minister; generous support from the private sector; and a special grant from the Ministry of Citizenship and Culture, the Honourable Susan Fish, minister. The Ontario Science Centre is an agency of the Ministry of Citizenship and Culture.
