Readnews half-tries not to show you the same article twice in different newsgroups, but only within the same invocation. If the same article is posted to net.ai and net.unix-wizards, say, and I don't have the stamina to read all the way from net.ai to net.unix-wizards in one sitting, then I'm going to see that article again the next time through, and that's a pain. Moreover, posting to net.ai and net.unix-wizards (say) means that both groups will tend to get all of the followup articles, which often go off on tangents aplicable to only one of the groups.
