I heartily agree with the suggestion to try bed and breakfast places. They can be wonderful experiences. Be forewarned, they are not for people who feel uncomfortable with occupying a room in a strangers home but it is a lovely way to see a typical home. You can drive down the street(s) of a town and look for bed and breakfast signs but we found a very useful way in many towns was to go to the local tourist information center. They have a listing of all hotels and bed and breakfasts in a town, a description of the place, some idea of cost and will call ahead to see if the placec is available. Some charge a nominal fee but this often comes off the price of the bed and breakfast. They can also help you find a hotel if all the bed and breakfasts are full or if they aren't to your liking. The tourist information places are typically open till 6pm in the summer. -- Anita Cochran uucp: {noao, ut-sally, ut-ngp}!utastro!anita or seismo!ut-sally!utastro!anita arpa: anita@ut-ngp snail: Astronomy Department The University of Texas at Austin Austin, TX 78712 at&t: (512) 471-4461
