	I beg to differ, but washing machines do not eat socks!
They are teleportation devices and exchange socks with other washing
machines.  Don't tell me you've never found a single sock in the wash
which no one else would claim.  This usually happens when one of a 
pair of socks disappears.  Apparently an exchange takes place.
