Post a Snail address and I will send you a copy of the bibliography
to a disertation called _Abstraction Hierarchies: A Model of 
Perception and Cognition in the Game of Go_ by Ken Friedenbach, 1980.
The disertation runs a couple of hundred pages and I am not interested
in copying it, sorry.  You can order it from University Microfilms
International.  In my opinion, the biblio is the best part.

I seem to recall, although I can no longer locate the source, a quote
that for computation considerations chess is roughly equivalent to
11 X 11 go.
