   Yes, I have noticed that people in other professions can talk
   just as long and enthusiastically about their work as we computer
   scientists are known to do when we get together. My SO and his
   associates can talk for hours on the subject of Law when non-lawyers
   are present unless one of us actively tries to change the topic.
   The topic of computer science seems to alienate non-cs types because
   there is so MUCH material you can discuss that they cannot relate
   to everyday life. (I expect this will change as computers become
   more and more of a household item.) While SOME of the material my 
   SO and his friends discuss is understandable to me, there are 
   times when their legal discussions completely overwhelm and bore me.
