The original idea behind voting was that people were supposed
to MAIL their votes to the person proposing the group.  Not

I agree completely that this is much to be preferred; however, there
are machines whose (sorry about the anthropomorphism, but there's no
corresponding adjective for "which" in English) users are free to post
notes, but unable to send mail--no, I don't understand why, either.

I wish to propose that discussion be started on a news (or better still,
notes)-like program that suffers less from hardening of the categories
than news or notes: what sort of interface it should present to the
user, etc.
