I had a conversation with a male friend recently which brought
out an interesting fact. We both had previously stated that we were
interested in *intelligent* MOTOS. However, during our conversation we
both realized that it wasn't necessarily intelligence itself that attracted us.
What actually seems to be attracting us is (how do I say this?) exposure.
What I mean by this is a person who has been exposed to things outside of
the small world that most of us grow up in, and is willing to do things
themselves rather than wait for someone else (such as a male) to do them.
You know, the kind of things which happened to a lot of us when
we went away to college. (What? You mean that everyone isn't
a Republican? :-)

Is this intelligence? Well, intelligence may have something to do with
it but it certainly doesn't assure it. I've also concluded that intelligence
isn't even a necessary condition! What is necessary is an open mind
(which you won't find very easily in Indiana :-) and the desire to
learn new things, plus of course a large amount of independence.

Anyway, I no longer believe that intelligence is what many
people are really looking for. Comments?

[Such radical thoughts from a Hoosier in exile! :-)]
