Yes, but how many lasted because they were good marriages, and how
many merely endured because divorce was simply not an option?
The reason to stay married is not simply to avoid a
the stigma of divorce, but to actually increase one's happiness.
I agree that commitment is important and often neglected, but
sticking with a bad marriage (where one spouse simply makes life
miserable for the other) just to stay married doesn't sound like
the kind of life that could ever be happy.
