While it may be a decent idea to organize newsgroups, you simply CANNOT rename them. It doesn't work. That's a proven fact (net.trivia). Confusion, multiple postings, illegitimate groups, etc. all come out of it, and with this large a scale involved, the problems would all be multiplied. The thing to do is now start organizing new groups. When the old ones die away (granted, it may take a few years), the net will slowly become more clean. You cannot do it overnight. Adam
