The complaint about the local phone companies becoming like the post office
may be very applicable.  You see, when we broke up Ma Bell, the operating
companies started buying more of the off-brand switches, instead of staying
with the high-quality AT&T switches they had used for years.  True, some of the
other switches are cheaper, but it's the difference between buying a chevette
and a mercedes.  You expect one to fail more often that the other.
