I seems to me the consensus here has been that the Excelsior will be the next "Enterprise". Why?? I think the "bathtub" look was at least partially intentional--it fit so well with the pomposity of Capt. Styles. With the intent of giving us viewers "something new" (as well as something old), I think they will come up with a whole new design, more similar to the Enterprise. (To tell you the truth, I really liked the Reliant. Was this a "Light Cruiser" vs. the Enterprise being a "Heavy Cruiser", or were they the same class?) The Excelsior seemed like a throw-away ship all along, to me. We shall see.... On a related subject, about Scotty being "Captain of Engineering", I'd guess that there is a difference in being of rank "Captain", and being Captain (vis-a-vis being in charge; uh oh, now I'm sounding like Lt. Hunter!). Recall that even though Kirk was an Admiral, he was acting "Captain" of the Enterprise. Perhaps, as another has suggested, a ship as large (crew = 1000?) as the Excelsior might have an Admiral or Commodore in charge, with department heads all being Captains. (Of course, this doesn't explain Capt. Styles, but then there IS no explanation for Capt. Styles). "How else can I keep up my reputation as a miracle worker" Scott J. Berry
