Sorry, SIMTEL20 is NOT at MIT (unless there has been a lot of geographic
shuffling going on in secret!); it is at White Sands Missle Range in
sunny New Mexico. It is a MILNET host, reachable through the ARPANET.
(You may have used an MIT gateway into the ARPANET, which
would explain why you thought the locations were congruent.)

ARPA/MILNET sites connect directly over the high-speed data lines,
regardless of physical location, so a New Mexican site is just as
"next-door" to MIT as one physically located in the next building.
