It certainly preceded 'Hound Dog' and 'Blue Suede Shoes'. He made several earlier records (on Sun , I think) but they weren't hits. btw, if you get a chance, check out the version of 'Blue Suede Shoes' by Jimi Hendrix. I think it's on "Hendrix in the West".
