A more detailed hint for Paul Saylor (Sorry to all for posting this,
but I've misplaced the address):

In the version of Zork with which I am familiar, to get as far as the
Guardians of Zork, you must have entered and exited a box with two
poles and many colored panels. Check out the OUTSIDE of this box---
it may give you an idea.
