An inquiry to the Stanford Microdisc repair group regarding
cost of repair: the logic board and the power board are
not repaired but replaced at costs off $500+ and $150+ if they
go down including return of the defective board. At present
the Stanford group is experiencing about a 2% failure rate
in the 600 or so MACS distributed since April.
This is a very high charge by APPLE in my opinion.
One must pay this cost even if one component on the board
fails. This makes the extended warranty
sound like a bargain.
Is it likely that alternate repair sources will appear?
