Ignorance struck again.

Culture has nothing to do with pompousness. It even has little with  ability
to perform one's job. Being able to appreciate art, or being aware of the
history, traditions or way of thinking of people from different environments
should be an objective in itself - just a part of being human. (as in "Nothing
that is human should be alien to me", the classic hyperbolic way of stating
this.)
No, one is not a better person for knowing that Beethoven is not a dish,
or that Hemingway is not a sewing method. Anyone who behaves that way is
an idiot. But the glorification of ignorance, anti-intellectualism as a
revenge against inferiority feelings is just as stupid.
