When Shure first started the changeover from the M95-ED to the M95-HE,
they had a couple of ads that advised M95-ED owners to just go out and by
the HE replacement stylus, as that was the only difference, and the owners
could "upgrade" (slightly) without having to buy the whole cartridge.
Unfortunately, stylus prices are typically a big portion of the
whole cartridge price, to encourage cartridge up-grading, so the actual
savings were pretty small.  In short, Shure was advising people to do
what you did.
