Well, I only received one answer, from Jeff Bowles at nwuxd:

    The "I knew I was onto something big when the taxi driver kidnapped
    me" could refer to that pretty bad movie that Lois (err, I mean Ms.
    Kidder) did with Robert Hays (I think that's his name --- the person
    who saved the day in "Airplane").

Yes.  It was "Trenchcoat".  While the movie certainly didn't
rate an Oscar, I thought it was pretty good for $2.
