Most if not all new GM cars with microprocessor engine control
shut off the A/C compressor when acceelerating at more than ~2/3
or 3/4 throttle. My 1983 Cimarron has only a 2.0 liter engine and
I notice that when climbing a long grade in fifth with the A/C on
the car gets warmer. I thought their was something wrong with the car
until I consulted the shop manual which explained the A/C cutout. This
provides all available power in passing situations.
