Based on my experience with DEC (partly as an employee), it's incorrect
to say that DEC is phasing out the VT-100.  More precisely, DEC is expecting
its customers to phase out the VT-100 by buying the (cheaper) VT-220.  DEC
can't lower the price of the VT-100 to match - it costs more to produce.
But so long as people keep buying the VT-100, you can expect DEC to keep
making it - that's how they do business.
