Real C for 6502:

Sorry, Aztec C *is* native code.  You just can't get C chugging
all that fast on a little 6502 -- but (in fact) the Manx people
got it going almost half as fast as C on an IBM PC!

I suspect that the version you saw was the "interpreted",
p-code-like version, which is indeed slow but produces much more
compact code than the native version.  Note that you are free to link
interpreted, compiled, and assembled modules together to get the best
mix of speed and size.  (wellll....with a run-time package of 8k for
the native code, and another 8k for the interpreter, don't expect 
really optimal space....)
