   A *really* easy way of transferring data between
VMS and UNIX is to use a small (~ 30 lines) program
on the VMS side which handles the conversion between
the formats.  The UNIX format is 512 byte blocks,
so all you need to do is unpack or pack the records
and insert or strip newlines as needed.  On the UNIX
side, you just cp(1) to or from the tape device.  I can
supply details if needed.
