FLAME ON: I did not give the bureaus permission to keep a file on me anyway, but I suppose there is little protection for me here. I guess I just have to put up with it, and exercise my right to examine and correct information if it is wrong. My real question and flame is: DO THESE BOZOS HAVE THE RIGHT TO GIVE OUT (SELL) THAT INFORMATION TO ANYONE WHO ASKS FOR IT? When I sign the credit or loan application, I am giving permission to access that information. Similarly with Landlords. But what about others. I never signed anything, nor would I. Yet, I have frequently been getting stuff in the mail to the effect of a) My credit is so good, that I have already qualified for a credit card. b) My credit is so good, and my age and income are right, that I am a perfect sucker for a timeshare condo (fat chance) c) My credit is so good, there is a multi-thousand dollar line of credit awaiting only my signature. If I want a credit card or a line of credit, I will apply. I don't want a timeshare condo. Period. Exclamation point. Many of the letters I have gotten recently say something to the effect of "Congratulations on the purchase of your new car. Since cars are so expensive these days, you must be a good credit risk..." Whose business is it whether I bought a new car, other than mine, my banks, and the state of California. Certainly not Bank of America. Or Shell Oil. The thing that really pisses me off is that they don't even have my address right. I live in Playa del Rey. They have my city as Venice. I don't live in Venice, and never have. I have never ever ever given anyone my address as being in Venice. Never will, unless I move there. There is a big difference between Playa del Rey and Venice. Playa del Rey is quiet, boring, full of old people, and south of Marina del Rey, which is much less quiet and boring. Venice is loud, exiting, and full of weird people who like to juggle chain saws while roller skating backwards through a crowd of tourists on the beach. It is also north of Marina del Rey. Even the zip codes of the two communities are different. Soon, I fear, I will be receiving letters in the mail offering to sell me multi-colored roller skates with built in Sony Walkman, all on preapproved credit. Just what I need. Do I have any recourse? Sure, I can get the address fixed, but then I only lose the traceability of that address distribution path, which I am finding to be quite useful when playing detective. Can I get them to stop giving out (selling) information about me to individuals or organizations to whom I have not given permission? If not, are there any legal types out there with suggestions as to how we can fix our laws to give us just a tad more privacy? am i mad now, or what.......
