I, however, do not think Torre was here when Gary Matthews was traded for Bob, true to his name, Walk. I really dont think the release of Niekro was that bad a mistake. Sure he would win a couple of games when his team could get at least 8 runs, but you could always count on him to lose every game until hot weather finally rolled around. I am really sick, however, about the trade of Butler. He was the most reliable outfielder since Felipe Alou was here in the 60's. Torre destroys the confidence the young pitchers have when they come up from Richmond. Johnny Sain teaches them finesse there and Gibson wants them to rare back and throw hard and forget about pitching for the corners.
