I had my .newsrc trashed last night by running
"readnews -x -n net.religion.jewish". This happened
to me once before. Recovering a lost .newsrc takes forever!
(The previous time I had also been showing some stuff to
my wife, and ran "readnews -x -n net.tv -t AMC", which
also destroyed my .newsrc. That was a few months ago and
I wrote it off as an accident.)

What got left in the .newsrc was a chunk of the last article in
the newsgroup. Dammit, when I run readnews with -x, the .newsrc
should NEVER be opened for writing!

Still growling.....
