Cleveland, Ohio Lines: 20 Less disgusting, but equally Scandinavian, is the Danish Akvavit. This clear schnappes tastes like caraway seeds, and is best drunk by belting back ice-cold shots (hides the taste a little). Actually, I love the stuff, but I don't know anyone else (except in Denmark, where I acquired the taste--well it was more like being tortured into it) who can stand even one sip. And at the prices it fetches, it's a good thing. The trick is to get down 4 or 5 belts--then it starts to taste really great. Hey--promise not to tell! I also happen to like Akvavit. There's a little song that you're supposed to sing (it is unconditionally REQUIRED) before each belt. I believe it starts out... hey LAHNG or ...or something. Anybody have any clues? Dave Decot
