These are from the book "Pullet Surprises", by Amsel Greene. The
title is from one of her student's line (in a class on vocabulary
building, in high school) "In 1957, Eugene O'Neill won a Pullet
Surprise." This gives you an idea of what follows:

	Word: Student's Definition:
	adamant "pertaining to original sin"
	bibliography	"holy geography"
deciduous	"able to make up one's mind"
	dermatology	"study of derms"
diatribe	"food for the whole clan"
	effusive	"able to be merged"
	finesse "a female fish"
	fortuitous	"well protected"
	gubernatorial	"to do with peanuts"
gullible	"to do with sea birds"
	homogeneous	"devoted to home life"
	ingenious	"not very smart"
	longevity	"being very tall"
	polyglot	"more than one glot"
stalemate	"husband or wife no longer interesting"
tenet "a group of ten singers"
