This is a classic memory test (best performed on someone bright but
slightly drunk).  The idea is that you read him the first line and
he repeats it from memory.  Then you read him the first and second
lines and he repeats them from memory.  And so on.  The first time
someone pulled this on me I almost remembered the wording but while
doing the 10th case missed a word from line nine.
