To answer the question of the how's and why's of Leslie Webber's
death....

She died of injuries suffered in a car crash during the most
horrendous ice storm to hit Port Charles 'in history' after being
verbally and mentally harrassed by D. L. Brock, who has framed
Leslie's husband Rick, making it appear that Rick took a rather
sizeable bribe as Health Commissioner to re-open Brock's food
manufacturing plant after he closed it down for violations
and an outbreak of botulism.... well you get the idea.

The actress who played the now defunct Dr. Webber (Denise something)
decided to leave the show after a contract stalemate. I did read
that she did not really approve of being killed off, but would have
rather "run off with a sailor."

Luke and Laura were off hiking in the Himalaya's and could not
be reached for the funeral. When the do hear about the death, they
may come back for a quickie 'guest spot.'
