The following is from a local TI 99/4A users group newsletter:

The Gemini-10 by Star Micronics is being replaced by the Gemini-10X. Both
models are currently availale at the same price. The 10X prints at 120cps
compared to the 100cps speed of the 10. In addition the 10X allows the user
to define and download any character set he chooses. You also gain double-
speed double-density graphics (960 dots per line), quadruple-density graphics
(1920 dots per line), and the option of selecting character sets by either
DIP switches or software commands. A very nice addition to the 10X is its
Macro Instruction Set. This allows you to define up to 16 printer operations
and call them one command - -CHR$(27);"!".
All the other features of the 10 are retained except for the 2.3K buffer.
The 10X uses much of the buffer RAM for the user-defined Character Set, and
therefore is left with an 816 character buffer. Star does offer optional
plug-in 4K and 8k buffers if you need a larger buffer.
The Gemini-10X is locally available - - BEST products offers it for $349.
Mail order prices as low as $299 are being advertised.
LEADING EDGE has been heavily promoting the BANANA printer at a list price
of $249. This slow but competent printer has been available for some time
through other suppliers. It is the SEIKOSHA(division of SEIKO) printer which
uses a unique and flexible single print-wire system. Whatever it is called
this printer is an outstanding buy at the actual selling price of about $200.
It is simple, slow and not as flexible as most printers, but it is a quality
product for those who want a basic, no-frills printer.
