It seems to me that net.bio is wide open for whomever wants to take it
over.  If you think that it is an appropriate forum for discussion
between researchers in the biological sciences, then use it for that.
You are bound to get the uneducated posting stupid questions and
making fallacious statements.  That's part of the turf.  Net.math
gets the "proofs" that 0=1, net.physics gets a lot of fluff about
how thermostats work, and net.philosophy gets questions like "are
all paths equal".  So what?  If you want to share your expertise,
and have the time, then maybe you can straighten us out.  Else just
ignore the trash and get on with the substance.  If you don't use
it for serious discussion you can bet that the creationists will
use it.  If this happens, I for one will unsubscribe and I will quit
defending it against the efforts of the newsgroup assassins who want
to do it in.
