Why must there be a Gov't ruling or law at all?? I'll agree that maybe state and federal monies need not be supplied to buy slaves, but if my family decides to have a slave or two at this particular time, isn't this OUR business?? "If all people are required to give up their slaves, will the anti-slaverly advocates help out in anyway? Who will see that a slave is loved and cared for? Not the people who want slavery banned. They will sit back and pat themselves on the back for saving a slave and not think that he is more than a biological function." Some years ago there was widespread argument concerning the question, is a negro a human being?, to whom the phrase "all men are created equal..." applies. This means of course that there were many who argued that in fact they were not in some sense "the same as us", and therefore not entitled to be treated equally. Thus they were bought and sold, like cattle, for the convenience of the ruling class. Today there is a misplaced libertarianism that states the unborn child is not a human being entitled to the protections afforded to all people in this country. Thus they may be aborted for the convenience of the bearer. Unfortunately for the advocates of abortion, the tide of history is against them. The unborn child will soon be installed in law as a human being, the general abortion of which will be regarded as murder. -- ..{allegra,seismo}!rlgvax!plunkett
