Subject: The Good Fight

Here's a quick plug for one of the two or three best documentaries I've

ever seen.

THE GOOD FIGHT, a documentary about veterans of the Abraham Lincoln Brigade,

the Americans who fought on the Republican side of the Spanish Civil War

1936-1938, is an excellent documentary. Interviews with 12 people and

period film clips were combined to make a well paced, fascinating, intriguing

90 minute film. The movie makers do not focus on the alphabet soup

political faction fighting of the time, but rather, on what made

the Spanish Civil War seem important to Americans at the time, and the importance of the experience in the veteran's lives. The vets are exciting

people, still vital, even though the younges of them must be in their 70's.

It's currently in Boston, and I know it will be shown in New York and

San Francisco in the next few months. It's worth asking local theaters

to show it--it's really fine, and was quite a commercial success here in

Boston.
