The movie is a cartoon version of the book of the same name by Peter S.
Beagle. It is geared for children, and at that level it is a good film.
Unfortunately, this reduces the depth of the story. The evil and frightful
monsters and not so evil, nor as frightful, as the book has them. The
Unicorn, and the initial woodland scenes, are a bit too cute. The character
of Smedrick (sp?) is well done, except that he is younger than I had
imagined.

The credits supprised me. The film is a Japanese production. Perhaps this
story has universal appeal.

Take your kids to see this one. If you don't have any, wait until it hits
television.
