The story query about the ship that goes on a long voyage, and the people
play a D&Dish game sounds very much like Poul Anderson's THE SATURN GAME.
It appeared in Analog (I don't know when), and is collected in Anderson's
book EXPLORATIONS (available from Tor).  I believe it may have even won
a Hugo/Nebula, if so, if undoubtedly appeared in one of the many "Best of"
type books....
