In my experience (having done a number of top end jobs on my Hondas and BMWs)
an oil change at 750 miles will amaze you as far as the number of pieces of
junk that will be washed out. I would change at 750, 1500, and 3000 miles,
the hell with the book.
As far as break-in, go easy on the revs as they tell you in the book. The
main trick is not to keep up a steady engine speed for more than 5 minutes
at a time for the first 1000 miles or so. (maybe it's only 500 these
days...I forget). If you must go on a highway, switch gears often. Have fun
and stay upright.
"That's the biz, sweetheart..."
