Ah, yes, 1984. Jailed for hearing an unauthorized tree fall... So you
think that's funny?

We recently got a software product (nameless to protect the guilty (and
me from lawsuits)) whose manual had this on the title page:

"Copyright (C) 1983 Inc. All rights reserved. No part of
this publication may be reporduced, transmitted, transcribed, stored
in a retireval system, or translated into any language or computer
language, in any form o rby any means, electronic, mechanical,
magnetic, optical, chemical, manual or otherwise, without the prior
written permission od Inc,
." As near as I can figure, reading the distribution tape (which contains a copy of the manual) is a federal crime! Let alone actually reading (with your eyes) the manual itself and chemically storing it in your brain! (Yes, our license agreement probably gives us de facto permission, but come on!)
