I, too, always drive on the "Trucks and Buses" side of the
turnpike when I can, for all the reasons that Au N. gave
(they generally give more thought to their driving) plus
one more: if I break down, a passing trucker is *much more*
likely to stop and offer help than a passing car driver.
Even if truckers don't stop, they almost always have CBs
and can tell the police that there is a car broken down on
the highway.
