I think I read about Gershwin's rejection by Ravel in "A Smattering
of Ignorance" by Oscar Levant, a close friend of the Gershwins
(or, if not a  close friend, at least a pice of furniture in their
apartments).  [By the way, there is a book with a wonderful title!]

I believe that Schillinger strongly influenced many Hollywood movie
composers of the 30' and 40's.
