Snowboarding has been going on the Wasatch Range outside of Salt Lake
of quite some time. To my knowledge, there are two major makers,
Winter-stick (based in Salt Lake) and Burton Board (based in Vermont(?))
The Winter-Stick folks are moving their headquarters to France because
of the increased interest the Europeans seem to have for this sport.

The major difference between Burton's and Winter Sticks is that Burton Boards
have metal runners on the bottom (Vermont conditions no-doubt) and
Winter-sticks don't. I've seen plenty of these here at Alta going down most
intermediate runs without any trouble. See the fall issue of Powder ... it
features these critters.

To me, it looks like the insane sport of skate boards without the scraped
elbows.
