I put out a strong anti position last week which seems to have disappeared.
Anyway nobody commented on it over the weekend.

The intent of the note was to criticise the current, de-facto role of
secular humanism as the standard philosophy of the intellectual elite of the
west and to state that there were irreconcilable differences betgween the two
sides.

I've been reviewing the latest batch of postings:

  1. As for the anti's pushing their religious beliefs on others:
The pro's are doing the same thing in reverse. By legalizing
abortion the pro's have made the government the enforcing agent of
a strong tenent of their philosophy. The anti's are now forced to
live under a system which guarantees an act which is despicable to
them. The schools and government and society promote what is legal
and this pressures the anti's to conform.

Don't make the mistake that laws which allow something are good.
The good or bad of a law has nothing to do with the fact that it
either allows or dis-allows. It is with the content. Living under a
law which allows abortion, for the anti's, is just as much coercion
as living under a law which forbids it to the pro's.

2. Use of the term SOPHISTRY:

Most of the arguments posted are not rigorous syllogisms.
DON'T GET TOO CRITICAL ON FORM.

3. On some of the arguments:

The point of the human in the massive life support systems is not
that it is a contradiction in terms, i.e. once a human always a
human so the question was ill-formed, BUT what I think the question
was intended to pose was DID the body under massive life support
CEASE to be human and if so then it could be killed. This is, I
THINK, how the link to euthanasia from abortion is forged. one of
central problems with abortion is that it cheapens human life as a
PRIMARY principle and therefor the principle can be extended to
           other specific cases.

4. Regarding ARNDT:
I disagreed with his vulgarity on the public net, but I agreed
with his anti thoughts and laud his work with BIRTHRIGHT. There
are MANY childless couples who would sacrifice most everything for
a child, let adoption be an alternative and let BIRTHRIGHT help!

and by some form of the black arts from other nets. I can only respond
   through BITNET, sorry.
