Cyndi Lauper's appearance on The Tonight Show came only a few weeks after
a similar appearance on Late Night With David Letterman. Obviously Late
Night is better suited to handle Ms. Unusual, were that she really all that
unusual.

During her interview on Late Night, Letterman asked her about her previous
band Blue Angel. Suddenly she got very quiet and serious, lost her high
'n' squeeky New Yahk accent and proceeded to explain the dissolution of her
first band. I think her total break in character was the funniest thing
she did or said all evening.

As to "the PEG principle"--Politeness, Etiquette and Grooming--she gave the
very same story to Letterman... and on The Tonight Show you could see the
setup with your eyes closed.
