High school.  Lord, that was twenty years ago.  See-through
blouses and cigarettes were the supreme decadence then.
Yes, we girls just naturally considered ourselves superior
to -not to mention more mature than- most of the boys.
Seventh grade was when all the girls "went crazy".  We
began experimenting with clothes and makeup, indulging in a
remarkable narcissism.  God! the stuff we wore!  Cleopatra
eye makeup, white lipstick and white nail polish, hair
tortured into bouffant styles and sprayed stiff.  Orange
skin from attempting to get an instant tan out of a bottle.
Green hair from trying to go from brunette to blonde.
We thought we were gorgeous.  Compared to us, the guys at
least *looked* normal.
