The 8080 was a successor to the even more wretched 8008,
which was designed as a terminal controller, not a general
purpose uP. The 1802 is indeed VERY slow, has abominable
addressing modes, and as a result is very difficult to
write any assembler code for. Its only nice feature is
it comes in a CMOS version, but then so do the 6800
and 6502.
