Split the D7's and go wide around each side (10 to 15 hexes).
Stay far enough away that his photon torpedoes cannot affect you,
but close enough so that he must keeped them charged, thus reducing
his speed. If you go around wide enough, he cannot continue the
retrograde manuever because of the limited firing arcs of the photon
torpedoes.  He will be forced to turn to face you, thus separating his
ships. Kaufman retrograde does not work well with only one ship.
The only problem I see with this tactic is that it gives
him ample opportunity to disengage, (if that is what you are trying
to prevent).
