I like the idea of insurance companies making you responsible for
your own stupidity if you don't wear seatbelts. But I'd still
buy airbags if they were available. For a head-on collision 
they're better than anything else. My understanding is that
lap belts would still be required in cars with airbags.

The problem with the insurance company coercion is that it
may penalize those not responsible. If the company won't pay
on your claim, your family may suffer unreasonable deprivation.
And since your medical bills can be deducted, we all share the
cost.
