A fairly exhaustive test run on the old disk drive with its new Dysan
pack gives it a clean bill of health. The pack is absolutely clean,
and the drive behaved itself through nearly 2 hours of diagnostics.
It glitched only once, which was almost certainly static electricity --
I was replacing the top on the cpu box at the time, and the timing of
the message was precisely right.

Unfortunately, we've also had a sharp upswing in the soft error rate
on the new drive. This started quite abruptly late this evening.
I will take a closer look at this tomorrow; until then, I have turned
the driver's "patient" mode back on (and set /etc/rc to do likewise).
The errors are all very soft (one retry gets rid of them), they are
all header ECCs, and there is no consistent pattern on head numbers.

I am beginning to get impatient to get the new controller running.
