 There is another thing that can be done to ward off tail-gaters if this
occurs in the daytime; turn on your headlights. This has the amazing property 
of turning on the your taillights too. They won't be as strong as the
brake lights, but when driving a death machine less than 10 feet away from
the car in front, most 'gaters won't bother to measure relative brightness
(please, let's not start a new flame by saying that what I really mean is
relative intensity or whatever; you know what I mean). This tends to make
them slow down and get off my butt. Anyway, it usually works for me.
