Maybe we should al flame at our Congressmen [presumably, to make them mandatory]." Airbags cost a lot of money - well over a $150 or so apiece. Replacing them if they get triggered costs a lot of money. I ALWAYS wear my seat-belt and ask others in the car with me to do the same. I DON'T WANT TO PAY ALL THAT EXTRA MONEY FOR A SYSTEM I DON'T NEED. Why are you making me pay for a system needed by others who REFUSE to be reasonable? As far as I'm concerned, I think anyone injured in an auto accident who was not wearing a seat belt, who cannot show that the injury would not have been prevented by such a belt - and we have TONS of statistics on this - should be ineligible for insurance money or any government assistance. You want to be stupid, go ahead - don't expect me to pay you for it, either through higher insurance rates or through my taxes. (Presumably insurance companies could offer "no seatbelt" rates to people willing to pay them.) BTW, I don't support the "automatic" belts either. They get in your way when you want to move stuff in and out of the car and are a pain when you have to get in on the wrong side because some idiot parked to close to you for you to be able to open the door. Regular belts are just fine as safety measures; the problems are with PEOPLE, and the solutions should act on the people. -- Jerry decvax!yale-comix!leichter leichter@yale
