Some long time ago, I read a short story or humorous article about stamp
collecting in which the thin strips of paper that border a set of stamps
was called "wiffle". There is some similarity with the thin strips of
holey paper on the sides of computer paper,

(Personal to A. Tannenbaum: Why don't you talk about them ? You'll
never solve your problems by hiding from them.)
