There is yet another bug in that on a heavily loaded system it is possible for the alarm to go off before the pause is ever entered. Thus sleep(1) on a heavily loaded system COULD sleep forever. This happened here, and we reinstated sleep as a system call in itself to fix the problem. Sleep used to be a system call in the dim and distant past. I feel that it still should be.
