My father put airline style seatbelts in the "family" car long before seatbelts were standard or mandatory. However, if seatbelts and airbags don't mix for some technical reason I'm unaware of, please inform me, for I too am in favor of seatbelts over airbags. Alas, I don't normally use seatbelts around town, but I ALWAYS do for highway driving. I think the reasons are twofold: 1) I consider myself a competent driver, capable of driving defensively and avoiding or reducing the seriousness of an accident before it occurs, given the low speeds (<35mph) speeds to begin with. 2) I've experienced my share of low (& high) speed mishaps and fender benders (as driver, passenger, and motorcycle rider). I think getting myself to use seatbelts at all times (driving) is sort of like the problem others have of quitting smoking. "A man's got to know his limitations"
