A while back there was a net.jokes.q(uestionable). The problem was that anyone subscribing to net.jokes also got net.jokes.q, if he/she did not explicitly de-subscribe. At various times innocent secretaries new to the net read net.jokes and also got un-rotated filth from net.jokes.q. When they complained to their bosses, the "fuvg" (rot13) hit the fan. As a result, at least one site cancelled *all* news. To avoid this situation in the future, rot13 was implemented. This way, nobody can (or should) complain about filth on net.jokes, because the only way to read it is through a conscious effort.
