Well, I was waiting for Greg Woods to put in a note about
the net.singles get-together at the USENIX conference
I don't see one from this site. So here is my report:

Greg Woods agreed to hold a net.singles get-together
in his room at the Hilton. I trooped up to Greg's
with a small gang of friends, about 7 pm. Others arrived
in singles & groups, not long afterwards.
There were about 15 or so of us (my estimate -- I
didn't count at the time). There were all of 3 women
(sounds like net.singles, doesn't it??).
We just sat about and discussed this and that
and drank the wine (after someone found a
corkscrew!!). The talk was mostly along the net.singles
lines i.e. how to meet, feminist issues, a bit of what
makes men/women attractive. I heard a bit of technical
talk about computers going on, for a short while.
A couple of the men went off into a discussion about
attitudes to women and had to give it up because
they agreed with each other about everything!

The weird thing that happened was that Jeff Schwab
(sorry if that spelling is wrong Jeff, I'm doing it
from memory) who suggested, independently of Greg,
that we have a net.singles get-together, called Greg to
see what room the affair was being held in and found
he was next door!! They opened their inter-connecting
doors and we had two rooms to wander in.

There were some free movies we all wanted to see, so
after a couple of hours we went off, en masse, to
see them, discussions still going on in the elevator
& taxi, as we went.

Anyway, I enjoyed meeting some of the people I had
been corresponding with. It should happen at every
USENIX!!
