I don't think this got through the first time I tried to post it, so here
it goes again! My apologies if you are reading this for the second time.

*************************************************************************
* ...it is very presumptuous of you to *
* assume that the whole world has to dial the '1' just because you do. *
*************************************************************************

I would be sincerely offended were you speaking to me, NDK. Since I have never
lived in an area which did not require a '1' before dialing an out-of-area
number, I have 'known' since childhood that one must always dial a '1' before
a long distance call (save for operator-assisted calls, which require a '0').
I am now deeply ashamed at my simplicity in making such a natural extension of
my knowledge of the local telephone company to the telephone companies which
service all of the other parts of the country in which I have not lived.

*******************************************************************************
*                                                                     So next *
* time please leave just the 10 digit sequence of area code and phone number *
* I don't care what your local requirements (if I'm calling from a hotel room *
* I may have to call an operator to dial) are. *
*******************************************************************************

I would assume that anyone with the mental capabilities necessary to use this
net in the first place would be able to identify and delete a few leading
characters from such an easily recognizable pattern as a 10-digit telephone
number without so much as a conscious effort. If you not only require a
conscious effort but find, in addition, that the effort taxes your strength,
I suggest you refrain from wasting your limited energy on such diarrhea of the
keyboard as the flame to which I am replying.
