By pleading for your life, the monster might (not too often) let you pass and just sit there, unless of course you thump him anyway. Naturally, if you encounter the same monster later on, you would have to try bargaining again. Another possibility would be to have to give the monster a gift from your pack in exchange for passage, taking the risk that he might just stick it in your ear. Whaddya think?
