The osborne Microprocessor handbook states that both the 
Rockwell 6500 and Motorolla 6800 CPUs were designed as enhancements
of the Intel 8008, not the 8080.  As enhancements to the *8008*,
I would say that Motorolla and Rockwell did a fairly nice job.
