the poor man seemed to turn senile during his tenure as President of
West Germany, national figure-head and host to dignitaries (in contrast
to politicians). Some say he was just a politician but ...

He seems to get tribute for a phrase many Germans are likely to use
when knowing little English:

"Equal goes it lose" meaning "Soon it will start" his statement
to his host in the US during an opera.

"That must have been an evil person and surely deserved it"
				( I can't remember the quote literally )
reply to his host when told
that they were just passing the prison
where the French had held Boumedienne (?)
for over 25 years. President Boumedienne,
hero of the revolution and his host,
				was not amused.
