Please send corrections (and all changes to the configuration of Usenet) to "cbosgd!map". A blank entry means that the information for that site is unknown - if you see a blank entry you know the answer to, please let us know. Anything you would like to add to make information more specific is welcome - for example, if a site is just listed as "Bell Telephone Laboratories", we would prefer to list them as "Bell Labs, Columbus Operating System Group". We simply don't have the information to fill in for most sites. The July 1 distribution reflects the results of a sendsys request sent out in early June. We only got responses from about half the sites on Usenet. There has been a minor format change (again). File names are now prefixed with the country, thus nj is now usa.nj, on is now can.on. Europe has been subdivided into separate files for each country, with the "eur" prefix. On an experimental basis, we are including Britain's PSS sites in eur.gb.pss. Usenet is defined as all sites receiving newsgroup net.general. A Usenet link between two sites is one that net.general is sent over. Note that this is different from a UUCP link, over which mail and file transfers may occur but not necessarily news. (We count the links to Europe even through they don't get net.general - we're eventually going to change the definition, to net.announce, once net.announce begins working.) The format of the map lists several mail-style header lines for each site. The lines are Name: the official site name, with optional nicknames Organization: the name of the company, university, or group Contact: the name of the Usenet contact person for the site Phone: the telephone number of the contact person Postal-Address: the paper mailing address of the contact person Electronic-Address: for the contact person News: neighbors this site sends net.general to Mail: sites for which there is a UUCP link or other ! syntax link. Continuation lines begin with a blank or tab. A blank line separates each site entry. The Mail line in most cases is blank, allowing for future expansion. We are not currently collecting Mail data, so please do not send us Mail additions. Send Mail information to cbosgd!uucpmap, which is handled by different people. The map is organized geographically, dividing the world into several regions: Washington, Oregon and the northern Rocky Mountain states usa. wa or id mt wy nd sd ne California and Nevada usa. ca nv The southwestern US usa. ut co az nm ka ok tx The southeastern US including Missouri usa. mo ar la ms al ga fl sc nc te The midwestern US usa. mn ia wi mi in oh ky Illinois usa. il The eastern seaboard usa. va wv md de pa ny New Jersey usa. nj New England usa. ct ri ma vt nh me Western Canada can. bc ab sk mb yt nt hi ak Eastern Canada can. on pq pe nb ns nf Continental Europe eur. b ch d dk f nl s Great Britain eur. uk uk.pss Australia aus.nsw All links are currently assumed to be bidirectional.
