I own an '84 Corvette, and have just been through the
recall. The reason for the recall was bad bolts on both the
air pump and the front brake calipers. GM provided new bolts
for both of those. The recall instructions said to remove
the front brake caliper bolts, add lock-tite, and tighten
the new ones to 65 lbs. torque. The bolts on the rear were
not supposed to need replacing, just remove, add lock-tite,
and tighten to 65 lbs. Well, three of the rear bolts on my
car broke before reaching 65 lbs. It took three weeks to
get the new bolts from the factory. If there are any other
'84 Corvette owners out there, I suggest you make sure your
dealer has BOTH front AND rear bolts in stock before starting
the recall work.
