Well, it was my hotel room so I guess I'm obligated to post this. Yes, we had
a get-together at USENIX. It was the predictable 20 guys and 3 women (represen-
tative of netwide population, n'est-ce pas?), but we still had an enjoyable
time. We discussed everything from feminism to the problems of trying to meet
women in the computing field. We drank wine and generally had a good time.
The one odd thing is that two thirds of the people who showed up were from
Waterloo! (and a couple from Toronto). Only a handful of Americans responded
to either the net article or the BOF notice I put on the board at the
conference. I wonder if *that* is representative of netwide population! :-)

One of the reasons I suspect no one else showed up is that the hotel would
not give out room numbers over the phone, a fact which I was not aware of
when I posted my article to the net in the first place. Therefore, those who
followed my instructions to the letter would have been frustrated. (Anyone out
there who wanted to come but didn't run into this problem?) However, it
wouldn't have taken much to leave me a message (they would do that). Some
people in fact did this.

After the party (which lasted about 2 1/2 hours) we all went to the IMAX
show (which was excellent, by the way).

I think we wouldn't have even gotten as many as we did if it weren't for
Judy McMullan (watmath!jamcmullan), who got the Waterloo group there. Ah, the
advantages of being one of the few women in a group! :-)

   Hope this answers the question.
