=================
        (6) At a merge, do not stop to let a car in from the other
             lane. Boston drivers do not alternate at merges, and
             you will end up waiting 10 minutes for a chance to get in.
             Make the *other* lane wait. (It's only fair to the
             cars behind you....)
=================

I was once told a technique for implementing this driving rule:

Never move your head from the straight-ahead position. Move your eyes
only, to be sure that (a) you know what the cars in the other lane
are doing, and (b) they think you don't know. Under these conditions,
you can ensure your priority in a merge (the technique was discussed
at the entrance to the Callahan Tunnel, where something like 13 lanes
merge into 2).
