I understand that "ENCO" is "stalled car" in Japanese. The company
that is now EXXON wanted a single global name and couldn't use "ESSO" because
of anti-trust legislation (when Standard Oil was broken up many years ago).
They used the name "ENCO" in most places where they couldn't use "ESSO".
The name "EXXON" was sellected because it had no meaning in any known language
yet looked alot like their old names.
