I think Steve missed my point. I was arguing that the
president of the N.L. shouldn`t be able to tell the NL
manager who shouldor even shouldn`t be on the All-Star
squad. Herzog knows the players in the league, and he
doesn`t need some high league official to tell him who
he should pick. Sure there have been players picked
who had less then great seasons, especially in the
fan voting. Compare the fans choice of Sax over
Sandberg. The voting method is flawed, beacause it
becomes a poularity contest (like homecoming queen
elections in high school) and because the ballot
seems to always be missing players that should be on the
list. Write-ins can make it (Rico Carty, Steve Garvey)
but it`s highly unlikely. I`ll be the first to admit
that you can`t say the NL is superior to the AL `cause
we`ve won all but 2 games in the lsat 20 years. Remember
back when the series began, the AL had a big lead in games
won. Does that mean the AL was superior then but not now?
Of course not. You can`t even look at the World Series
results and say which league is better. So let`s all sit
back this summer and watch what may be 4 good divisional
races and enjoy this great game of baseball.

Play ball!
