    Perhaps an unreliable source, but a SciFi book about a valley somewhere
    in the Northwest, suggests a fix for these slimy things that I had not
    heard before, but my wife (from Ohio) said "Oh Yeah, thats right" about.
    TOADS!  I assume toads like to eat them or else otherwise impeed the
    destruction.  You might still want to set out the beer -- the toads will
    need to wash down the critters with something. [Source Frank Herbert,
    about a town in which EVERYONE consumes prodigious quantities of a naturally
    occuring LSD like fungus. -- yeah a questionable source, but if you have
    a box of TOADS in the attic ....].
