You don't have to use a 3270 with UTS (you could just use a
teletype).  There is a software package from Yale that runs
in a Series/1 and emulates 3270's on regular ASCII terminals.

But here is the good news...To support UTS, Amdahl says that
they are going to come out with some Full Duplex/Character
Oriented I/O devices.  They are currently arguing internally
whether to do this with their existing 4705 multiplexor or to
design something from scratch.

UNIX for the Big Guys...
