In Calif. and some other places, you could buy similar devices at places like Radio Shack because the courts hadn't decided if it was illegal yet. Perhaps these devices were for pirating free air signals instead of a cable type program. At any rate, I don't want to be breaking any present laws, and will not pursue it further.
