Lines: 20 Regarding the origin of the word "kludge" the Encyclopedia of Computer Science and Engineering 2nd Edition (Van Nostrand Reinhold) says: "The word kludge as used in computing was coined by Jackson Granholm in an article "How to Design a Kludge" in Datamation(February 1962). The definition is given as ' an ill-sorted collection of poorly matching parts, forming a distressing whole.' .... The first kludge article triggered five others('How to maintain a kludge,' etc.) in subsequent issues of Datamation. Four of the articles may be found in the book 'Faith, Hope and Parity,' edited by Jack Moshman, Thompson Book Company, 1966." Jim Blakley ihnss!blakley
