I read a long-time ago that hiccups were caused by a deficiency
of Carbon Dioxide in the blood.

This would seem to indicate that breathing pure oxygen (or probably
a 80/20 Nitrogen Oxygen mix) would do it as long as the exhausted
breath was kept separate from the supply.
