The recent debate/discussion/argument/yelling match on smoking has
frequently involved comments such as "if you believe . . ., prove
it . . ." As a confirmed non-smoker, I went to the Index Medicus
(published by the Health and Human Services Dept.; contains citations
to health related articles - about 700-1000 pages/month) for the
period July 1982 through June 1983 and examined the topic "Tobacco
Smoke Pollution." I have not yet had the opportunity to retrieve
each of the articles cited below, but will do so within the next
1-2 weeks and will summarize them in net.flame. Please note, these
are only some of the articles cited in Index Medicus; there were a
number of others dealing with biochemical changes induced by "passive
smoking," effects on the fetus of a pregnant woman exposed to smoke, etc.
that I do not include for brevity and since the discussion here
has not been oriented toward these topics. If you are interested in
these other topics, most science oriented libraries and especially
health-science ones will have the Index Medicus.
