I don't recall the reference, but I remember reading that the reason
many smokers light up after eating (or sometimes during) is a 
biochemical one.  If I remember correctly, the change in blood glucose
level triggers the nicotine desire; the biochemical stimulus eventually
results in the formation of a habitual link between eating and smoking.

I'll try to dig up the reference if I get the time, but since I'm in
the middle of contract proposal negotiations, it may be a while.
