Message-ID: <1590@ihnss.UUCP> Date: Thu, 7-Jul-83 17:06:37 EDT Article-I.D.: ihnss.1590 Posted: Thu Jul 7 17:06:37 1983 Date-Received: Fri, 8-Jul-83 17:43:40 EDT Lines: 18 I too have wondered why anyone would buy an Apple just to make it into a CP/M machine. More food for thought: I heard from someone who bought a 6809 CPU card to plug in his Apple, presumably same slot as the Z80 would go. He did this to speed up his Pascal, which he says it did by a factor of 2 to 4! Now, the 6809 has a well-established OS called FLEX which is about the same level of power as CP/M but more user-friendly and neatly done. Quite a bit of applications and language software is available for it. Then there is about to be OS-9, whcih is almost UN*X. Ponder: If you want to replace your 6502 with another 8-bit micro, why not use the latest and greatest? FLEX has been implemented well on the Color Computer, so it ought to be easy to tailor to Apples. Yeah, I know, there isn't the applications software base in FLEX (or anything else) that CP/M has. Jeez, how long is downward compatibility gonna enslave us? mike k
