Think again. The obvious result of this tactic is to piss off the SOB. Since the tailgater is typically in that segment of the population that has little regard for safety (including your safety as well as theirs), is this the sort of person you want pissed off at you? Some of them are reasonably intelligent and will slow down until they can safely pass. The rest will weave back and forth, crowd you even more closely, flash their headlights and wait for the slightest opening in which they can pass. If they screw it up, most of them have just enough intelligence to know that it is preferable to sideswipe you (running you off the cliff if need be) rather than taking the impending head-on collision. If they do manage to get around you it is not uncommon for them to see how close they can manage to cut in front of you or to perhaps hit the brakes just to shake you up a little. If you want to be safe then pull over when tailgated. If you feel that tailgaters must be punished, intimidated or inconvenienced then go ahead and play your little games, but your just as big a danger on the road as they are and just as likely to end up in the morgue (maybe more so).
