I agree that just by calling your parents by their first names, that does not
mean that you will automatically be a "rude" person.  What children (and a hell
of a lot of "adults" I know) must be taught is that you should call a person
WHAT THE WANT TO BE CALLED.  My grandmother has been a widow for 40 years.  She
is a very "modern" woman who ran a succusful business for over 30 years and
supports such things as ERA.  She considers it to be an insult to a marriage
that meant alot to her to be called "Ms."  Several people I know (myself
included dislike becalled called only by their last names.  Several business
people I know that are older then me consider it to be an insult if I call
them by their first names before they have given me permission.  My point is
I think you should ASK people "what should I call you?"  Of course there will
always be the people that answer "anything but late for supper"
