The Enterprise was compared to the USS Forrestal in the book The Making of
Star Trek. The above comparison stated the length of the aircraft carrier at
1010 feet, as measured from the stern of the flight deck to the bow. If we
count the engine nacelles, then the Enterprise is of equivalent size, however,
check the overlay again ad you'll see that from the leading edge of the saucer
to the shuutle bay doors only comes to the end of the Forrestal's island. This

makes the Enterprise only about 700 feet.
