My guess is that the predominance of white is just a matter of custom.
While there on vacation last year, I noticed that almost every car on
Martinique is white.  There was a time in this country that you could
get one of Henry Ford's cars in any color you wanted, as long as it
was black.  People think an airplane SHOULD be white, for some reason.
Personally, I like the 747 that Alexander Calder did up for Braniff.
