While it's fun to talk about what one might do to a tailgator, perhaps
one "orthodox" solution should be mentioned.

According to my Driver's Ed. teacher, the appropriate thing to do when
being tailgated is to SLOW DOWN.  Often this will make the tailgator 
come even closer.  Slow down some more.  After a while, he'll pass you
(though often with some surly comments about your guts) or you'll
both be stopped, and it's time for some quiet work with a tire iron.

(Oops!  I took driver's ed in a rough neighborhood, so perhaps the
official suggestion should not include that last part about the tire iron).
