He wants hard proof that cigarette smoking is harmful to "normal healthy individuals." None has been given and probably no one is surprised. Be that as it may, I would still like to see smoking banned in public places. I have asthma and PND (postnasal drip), and am incredibly allergic to tobacco smoke. I guess Tim would say I am obviously not healthy, though I can think of precedents which would show cause that allergy or asthma in itself if no reason to judge someone unhealthy. One thing which is troublesome to one in my position is that it is often difficult to coax a smoker into extinguishing a particularly offending cigarette. I hesitate to tell people I am allergic because they often believe it is just a ruse, and I am trying to intrude on their personal zone by making them put out their cigarette. [Godfrey Daniel what terrible grammar] Other smokers are quite polite. Another problem is that of finding restaurants/bars to visit. Many bars are frequented by heavy smokers. I often think about starting a NO-SMOKING BAR because I get so stuffed up after leaving a typical bar that I can barely breathe. How many would consider going to a no-smoking bar? Could this be a profit-making venture? Think of the possibilities for a pick-up bar where you know that the people you are picking up won't, as they say, taste like ashtrays. Such a place might even be crashed by incognito smokers. In any event, I vote YES to no smoking in public places. joe wilson Univ. of Virginia uucp: ...decvax!duke!mcnc!ncsu!uvacs!jnw CSnet: jnw@uvacs Arpa: jnw.uvacs@udel-relay
