Actually, the impedance ratio goes as the SQUARE of the turns ratio, so this procedure gets you 250 ohms. That's probably acceptable too, but it's better to err on the high impedance side (all you lose is a little volume), so using the full 1000-ohm winding is probably best. Dan Kahn
