M. Mistaken To All Personnel: As you know, we are presently in the throes of a total disorganization of the Bell System. Since everyone is involved, it is important that you understand the rationale behind the move. American Bell is one of three pilot companies in A.T.&T.'s attempt to emulate and, hopefully, surpass the U.S. Government's success in maximizing inefficiency and minimizing results. So that we all understand each others problems, we are relocating people so that the people who travel north will have to travel south and vice versa. Departmental names and job titles and classifications are being changed so that no one will have any preconceived idea as to what his/her job may be and no one else will either. This will permit unhampered creativity and completely eliminate any chance of placing blame. It is especially important that no semblance of organization remain, since this would obviously interfere with our reaching our goal. Consequently, in the unlikely event that you find yourself a part of what appears to be a plan, please notify your immediate supervisor so that this error can be remedied. If you indeed have someone to report to, this is a clear indication that something is fouled up. Since a system for distributing paychecks (without conflicting with the spirit of our disorganization) has not been devised, all checks will be thrown into the wind from the top of the West Tower.
