Rather than trying to make your Unix Vax talk DECNET, why don't you
make your VMS Vax talk TCP/IP. There is at least 1 vendor selling TCP/IP
for VMS and at least 1 source for a free TCP/IP (plus telnet, ftp, etc. The
free version comes with a driver for a Hyperchannel or can be configured
to run with an Interlan ethernet controller). DEC may someday provide
DECNET support for Vax Unix but if you are interested in communicating
today, TCP/IP is the logical alternative. There is also a TCP/IP TOPS-20
system available from DEC. The current software is a bit slow but DEC
is expected to release a much improved version soon. Ask your local DEC
salesman (while you're at it, ask him about VMS TCP/IP).
