I've been interested in seeing them again, but the thought really didn't sink in until later on. (Okay, I admit it -- most of the time when I'm meeting someone and talking to them, I'm not planning too far ahead. I'm usually too busy trying to listen and get to know them so I don't think about much else.) The individuals I have been interested in are students here and so it is not too difficult to find their phone numbers if I have their names. But I don't call. Instead, I also get their PO box number and send them a note with my phone number. I usually express how interested I was in talking with them, and I'd like to get together with them again. Then I wait for a response. I think this provides a couple of benefits. For instance, if the young lady is not interested, she doesn't need to call. Second of all, if she is interested but too timid to call, she is probably going to find repeated encounters with me somewhat threatening. I happen to prefer women with self-confidence and determination. Another thing that helps out here is that I'm more likely to be able to hold an extended phone conversation with the young lady if she calls me; if I call, it is usually at a bad time and I never get a chance to say much. Comments from people on this? I've gotten some very promising results from this in the last few months. What do you women out there think about this? Is it a good idea, or is it a cop-out on my part to put the burden of the first call on the woman? -- The soapbox of Gene Spafford CSNet: Spaf @ GATech ARPA: Spaf.GATech @ UDel-Relay uucp: ...!{sb1,allegra,ut-ngp}!gatech!spaf ...!duke!mcnc!msdc!gatech!spaf
