unc!tim writes in net.misc,

"By the way, the fact that there is no scientific explanation for
astrological phenomena is also no evidence against astrology. In
science, observation precedes explanation, not the other way
around..."

Substitute the words "health damage from passive smoking" for the words
"astrological phenomena" or "astrology", then tell me if this is the
same person requiring scientific proof from non-smokers.

Agreed we are not discussing passing a law against practicing
astrology, and that astrology doesn't cause health damage, but let's
see some consistency in logic.

I basically agree that laws should not be passed lightly. Tim and I
agree on that point. I do, however, believe that smoking in public
causes enough people involuntary discomfort and/or health problems
that some form of legislation is in order. Many people have
TOLERATED and tried to solve this problem politely for many years.
The fact is that this approach seldom works. Often the result is the
smoker deciding that there is something wrong with YOU for even
considering asking them to extinguish their cigarette, or that YOU
are infringing on THEIR rights.
