There was a wonderful book published in Vancouver about 10 years
ago, called "Hymie Koshevoy's Treasure Jest of Best Puns". Except
for a page of "old ... never die, they just ..." at the end, it
contained nothing but "punny parables", as you call them. I think
there were about 100. The stories were well told and amusing,
and took up a page each, plus I think there was an illustration
to go along with each story. The stories included all the well-known
ones and some not so well-known:
Carrying gulls across staid lions for immoral porpoises (yes, I know,
there are 2**n versions of this one too)
I wouldn't send a knight out on a dog like this!
Let your pages do the walking through the yellow fingers.
Ah, Mister Rhee of LIFE, I'm glad I found you!
A niche in time saved Stein.
etc. etc. (I won't spoil it by giving any more)

Does anyone have this book? I had a copy but it disappeared many long
years ago. I'd love to get another one.
