Some news, courtesy Paul Stachour, University of Waterloo:

The first "production-quality" Ada compiler, produced by ROLM corporation,
for ROLM and DataGeneral Equipment, passed the validation tests earlier
this month.
Shortly thereafter, on June 10th, F. DeLauer, US Dept. of Defense
Undersecratary for R&D, announced a change to the DoD Languages Policy.
Beginning Jan 1st 1984 for "new work" and July 1st 1984 for
"work reaching advanced development stage", basically all US DoD-written
software will be required to be in Ada.
