Usually it has flipflopped between a SF being credited only if a runner scores and being credited if anyone advances. I think the present rule is only on a score. It might change next year. Believe it or not, a sacrifice fly once counted as a hit, resulting in grossly inflated averages. This only lasted for a couple of years. I think Hack Wilson was the chief beneficiary. By the way, does anyone know how he caused an unassisted double play on a hit?
