The company that I last worked for had several slow 286's.  These chips
were samples, but as far as I know they worked.  I think the 286 works, but
it currently has a BIG problem with heat.  The samples that we have
were very good at melting into their sockets.  Even with huge heat
sinks connected.  The project that was using the 286 will require the
8Mhz version to meet their contractual requirements, last I heard they
were getting quite worried, but software development was continuing
using the slow samples.
