I once read an article in a Canadian newspaper color supplement in which the
author proposed the invented word "Chaquette" (pronounced as if it were French)
for what the Census Bureau now calls "POSSLQ". The advantages of this were
said to be that it sounded respectable, and yet (being pseudo-French) just a
little avant-garde. It also gave an interesting fictitious etymology for the
expression "shacked up".
