Yes indeed automatic photo processors will screw up prints!  Color
analyzers assume 18% gray ( the same as you light meter ) so if the
print has a predominate color, or is white on black the operator
has to be able to correct.  See this months Peterson's Photographic
for article on 1 hr color labs.

Now the big boys use a video system where the operator sees the final
color balance before printing.  A good operator and one of those can
do a great job.
