A friend (pds@uvacs) was mentioning the `posh' accommodations he
enjoyed whilst skiing at Wintergreen (a nearby condo colony). I
immediately wondered about the origin of the term posh.

My Grandfather told me that posh took its meaning from cruise ships
whose most expensive and sought after lodging was designated
Port Out/ Starboard Home, giving the vacationer the best view both
coming and going.

Can anyone verify, or illuminate me on the origin of posh?
