I am a new reader of net.singles, so forgive me if this issue
has been addressed before. The question is: when, or should you
at all, ask a new friend if she is married? I have been told
in two cases that it wasn't my business. Is this info supposed
to be personal such as asking someone their age or how much
their salary is? I mean, it's not really that important for
me to know anyway, so I just don't ask anymore. Yes, I can
look to see if she wears a ring (not all married folks do),
or I can be more surreptitious and ask one of her friends (if
I happen to know one). But what's wrong with just asking her?

The last time this happened to me it was over a month until
I found out. Over such a time span, it's easy for me to develop
feelings for such a person that I wouldn't let develop or at
least wouldn't express if I knew the woman was married.
