In other words, columns. ^Y, ^W, m-y, etc, all have analogues (same commands prefixed by ^C) which operate on a rectangle defined by point and mark at its opposite corners. Occassionally this is VERY useful. If anyone has such a package for Gosling's I'd like to know. Zimmerman's also has a "picture mode" which is useful when kludging up pictures, of course.
