Long ago I solicited responses to the question of whether anyone
changed any fundamental attitudes due to what they read in netnews.
The responses were very few, and can be summarized as follows:

"I used to believe netnews was useful, now I don't" 2

"I softened my positions on some significant issues"	3

"I used to believe engineers and scientists thought alike, now I
	don't: 1
"No changes" 3

Sorry for the delay in this, but I wanted to make sure no responses
lingered in the net.

It seems clear that violent emotional flames on the network are not
effective in convincing anyone of anything. The most you can hope
for is to present a new argument on a subject that may make someone
aware of something that they were not previously aware of. Flamers
PLEASE take notice and spare the 'n' keys on all of our terminals!
