Two aliens are sent to Earth in a flying saucer to collect biological
samples; to this end they have a ray gun that can be pointed down at a
plant or animal, to draw up samples. They have visited much of the planet,
when one day they are flying up the east coast of North America past
Newfoundland. They notice a man, rowing a boat, singing ...
"I's the by that builds the boat, and I's the by that sails her ..."
The aliens decide to take a sample of it's brain; they set the sampler to
50%, and draw out half of it's brain. To their surprise, the subject is still
rowing the boat, and singing ... "and I's the by that catches the fish...".
The aliens decide to set the sampler to 90%, and try again. To their
surprise, the subject seems capable of rowing the boat with only 10% of
its brain ... and capable of singing ... "and takes them home to Lisa."
Confused, but determined to see it through, they set the sampler to 100%,
and remove the rest of it's brain. And the man is STILL rowing along
merrily, singing... "Give us a place to stand, and a place to row,
and call this land Ontario".
