I don't believe you can say you are "indulging" in "what does the other person
think of me". I certainly don't think you should stop doing it.
THAT would imply you DON'T care what the other person thinks, but a relationshiup
is a two way street, and you had better care what she thinks. I agree you shouldn't
go bananas over the problem to the point that it becomes all consuming; but
it would be stupid not to try to get feedback from the other person.
If you are getting negative feedback, you always have the option to ask
and find out if they do want to continue seeing you (yeah) or not (boo).
THAT is the time to not indulge and not worry, after you've once more
been thrown to the bottom of the heap, rejected outright despite your
all encompassing bold, valiant campaign; stomped upon and left 
for ashes . . . .
