I also like Peter Weir, and I liked 'Gallipoli' and 'The Year of ...',
(as well as 'The Last Wave', and  'Picnic At Hanging Rock') but be
**sure** that you see Stanley Kubrick's 1950-era movie 'Paths Of Glory'
**before** seeing 'Gallipoli' (or 'Breaker Morant', for that matter).
Both the latter movies are direct homages (read 'rip-off') of the
Kubrick original. Peter Weir is one of the best Australian modern
film-makers, but Kubrick remains one of the world's best, and certainly
one of America's only world-class film-makers.
