"Joy of Cooking", "Settlement Cookbook", ...) eggs should not be frozen whole (if you are doing it intentionally). In that case, they should be separated, and frozen in two containers. They can be thawed at room temperature and 're-constituted' later. I have successfully used whole eggs which got cold enough to have some ice crystals in them.
