The TAR HEELS have hit the skids again, showing that they aren`t
exactly ready for domination in the NCAA yet. Their young players
need more time on the court, and I`m sure the DEAN will bring them
along very well. I`d love to hear something about them Runnin` Rebs
from UNLV. Can they go all the way? Supposedly, their schedule isn`t
the toughest, which is why it took so long for them to reach 1
in the writer`s poll. I think they are supposed to be on CBS on Sat.
but I`d like to have a preview of what to expect to see.

As far as conferences go, I`ll give the nod to the ACC also. ESPN has
had a lot of their games, and watching has convinced me. However, if
you want to see a tough game, watch BIG 10 action. I think it`s the
most physical conference around. That`s why Indiana`s Uwe Blab isn`t
living up to the potential he showed as a junior/senior for the
Effingham Ill. high school team he almost led to the Illinois high
school class AA (751 or more students) BB title. It`s also why a guy
like Purdue`s Russell Cross will continue to improve. He`s from the
Chicago area, where basketball can get very rough & tumble.

Putting it up from half-court,
