the name 'Blit' comes from 'bitblt' (pronounced bit-blit),
which is the name of a general purpose operation on rectangular bit-maps.
(some of you know it as raster-op)

'bitblt', in turn, is derived from 'blt', which is the mneumonic for
the BLock Transfer instruction on the PDP-10.
