Ivan Sutherland once pointed out that the air is like an ethernet. Well,
in some ways the Net is like an ethernet -- it's a shared resource with
all transmitted data visible to all participants (more or less, but very
true on a per-news-group basis).

Now, turning that around, out here in the Real World we (organized society)
frown on those who clutter up the air with noise. Of course, the
definition of "noise" is open to interpretation, but you get the point.

Back to the Net: What some of us are saying is that some of you are
broadcasting (!) high noise levels along with your signals, and it's
distracting to our reception. Since the Net (fortunately) has no
central government, we can't do anything about it except apply social
pressure and weak threats. Still, given our reasoned arguments and
(perhaps arcane) concerns, you really should consider BEING NICE!!
