Article-I.D.: houxa.160 Posted: Thu Mar 3 18:05:22 1983 Received: Tue Mar 8 00:55:20 1983 The discussion of all lower case articles puts me in mind of my view of some "art". Most art is the result of the artist trying to affect the audience in some way, usually emotionally. Artists that use a "language" that is readily understood by the audience can accomplish this exchange much more readily than those that use a private language and blame the audience for not understanding. Those that use a common language have an intellectual/emotional intercourse with their audience, while those that use a private language and bemoan the lack of understanding of the audience are merely masterbating. If any of the "all lower case" people are put out by this note, I guess it could be that it hits too close to home. I would suggest that the "all lower case" people would still save their small amount of time if they just changed to "all one case" and made it uppercase... ALL UPPERCASE IS MUCH EASIER TO READ THAN ALL LOWERCASE AND TAKES NO MORE TIME SINCE MOST TERMINALS HAVE A "CAPS" OR "SHIFT LOCK" KEY. If all lower case is used for effect, it can be a part of effective communication, but if it is used (as seems to be the case) just because the originator of an article is to lazy or slovenly to care... Thanks for wading through this, Tom Losh Bell Labs /Holmdel houxm!houxa!9212tjl
