So many women seem to want to proclaimthat they are real people and just as capable.... Of causing a lot of grief ! Anecdote time: a) my father tells the story of a subltern fresh out of college who he was showing round the camp. There was a flagpole waiting to be put up, and my father asked this kid how he would do it. The poor kid ran it like an exercise at the college; ropes, pullies etc. My father showed him how it should be done: "SEARGENT !!! GET THAT FLAGPOLE PUT UP" b) At college I had a girlfriend who would have made the Dallas women look dull (for reasons which I may discuss later it was not a satisfactory relationship). She knew, as the Eagles put it, ".. how to open doors with just a smile...". This time she wanted her trunk taking up to her room, and so smiled at me. I weighed about 102pounds then, smiled right back at her, and told her to go over to the gym and try the smile there. Sexism works both ways; she got a better degree than I did, went on for further work, then married and settled down in the self same posterier-end-of-nowhere town that I left to come to Canada. Freedom has to be earned, it can never be granted, constitutional reform and ERA notwithstanding. I have no wish to have any kind of psychophant as a companion. The term 'soul-mate' appeals, but all too many women I have met this side of the Atlantic are so keen on 'proving' themselves to be real people, they screw up badly on being human. The shame of it is in doing so they take down with them a lot of men who are very sympathetic to 'the women's movement'. ... now do an escape and readnews -n net.suicide /anton aylward (not afraid to grieve, but why does it have to be as screwed up as all this ?)
