Title: EX/VI on a small PDP-11 ?

I know this topic has been in the minds of many, but I don't know
what the conclusions have been. I need a version of EX/VI to run on non-I&D
PDP-11's.
I know that EX/VI could run overlaid on such a machine. Is the
performance exceptable ? (How about for, say, four users ?)
I know that EX version 1.1 also will fit; but it seems considerably
more primitive and the visual mode looked quite underdeveloped.
I have successfully gotten Warren Montgomery's EMACS to run
comfortably on an 11/23, moving buffers into the stack segment, etc.
But EMACS's screen handling seems much less intelligent and not suitable
for lower speed terminals (any comments ?)

Before I attempt to hack up EX 2.0, has anybody else done it ?
Does anybody have any definitive comments as to the feasibility ?
Does EX/VI overlaid work just fine ?
