Dave Emberson, in article-id megatest.190, discusses marraige and
divorce and how a person can stop caring for the person they are
married to. I thought it was a good article Dave, and I particularly
liked your mother's advice, that before you married a woman, you
should meet her mother, and try to imagine what it would be like
being married to \her/.

Dave your experience, ignoring your mother's advice reminds me
of an experience I had with a woman I was involved with. When
I first got to know her, I did not like the way she treated her
cats. (She was constantly either scolding them, or smothering
them.) However, I ignored it, [1] because it wasn't any of my
business, [2] I didn't see what it had to do with \our/ relationship.

Well, I had made a big mistake. Once I was really involved with
her, and fairly commited to her, I realized that I \really/ felt
alternately scolded and smothered. I am now angry at
myself for not being tipped off by the way she treated her pets.

I think that now, before I make a large commitment to a woman, like
moving in with them, or marrying them, I would give them a pet.
I think that you can see the kind of emotional interactions a
person will have with you, or their children, by observing the
way they treat their pets. A person's interaction with a pet
is much simpler than their relationship with other people, the
pattern of their emotional life is revealed because there are
no words to distract the observer, and cloud their vision.
