When you are asleep, do your eyes turn upward?  If so, would this cause
any problem with the contact lenses that you keep in 2 weeks at a time.

If not, do they perhaps turn upward if you die?  It seems that some check
other than pupil expansion/contraction is used to quickly determine a
persons condition (i.e. unconsience vs. expired).
