This is a followup to Randy Bentson's article about daemons running
as root.  It is true that programs run by superuser can not set lock
files by simply trying to create a file with no permissions.  Look at
the lock mechanisms used in uucico.  The locking mechanism there is
to link to a file.  If the file exists, the link call will fail, even
for superuser.
