Article-I.D.: sultan.115 Posted: Sun Jan 9 22:28:03 1983 Received: Mon Jan 10 03:50:29 1983 ******************* * maybe this should * go to net.nlang ******************* Where do so many net-landers out there use the non-word "usage"? The word is "use". The form that would be "usage" is in fact, "use", as in: I measured the amount of use the car got. It might confuse those people who took the word "comment", decided that people who made comments were "commentors", then made it "commentators", and then decided that what commentators do is "commentate", but to those of us who still comment on things, the use of "use" for these places is clear. Other non-words that I see all-to-frequently are: "Forcasted", as in "The weather forcasted for tonight..." "Irregardless", but disirregardless of that... (do you ever hear someone say ...and regardfull of my warnings...) I'm not in an editor, so I can't put this away until I find the rest of these annoying things. If anyone can defend these things, you are welcome to flame back at me. Until then, I will flame to myself at the use of usage. Isn't that what net.flame is for? Up in flames...
