Engineers Article-I.D.: crimson.1431 Posted: Wed Jan 12 07:40:45 1983 Received: Fri Jan 14 20:31:36 1983 Some research organization wanted to find out who had faster reflexes, mathematicians or engineers. So they got one of each and sat them down front of a table with a light and bell on it and told them to ring the bell as soon as they saw the light come on. The first time the light comes on, the engineer slaps the bell with amazing quickness, but the mathematician just sits there. The second time the same thing happens, and so on for 5 more events. Finally the administrators are so puzzled they ask what is going on. Mathematician : Well, my hand has to get half way there, and then half the remaining distance, and then half of that, and so on. It can never make it because it will always have some distance to go. Engineer : That may be true, but pretty soon it's close enough. Stephen Wood Tektronix, Inc. ...!tekmdp!crimson!stevew
