If I don't have the guts to tell someone I don't want to go out with them
(as I often do, since I don't like to hurt their feelings -- my feminine
training I suppose) I am often "busy" four times in a row. If I am REALLY
busy four times in a row but would like to see the man, I say something
like "This isn't working out very well. I would like to go out with you
sometime. I am free this Thursday & Saturday. How about then?"
I agree that asking isn't always a way to find out. This is ESPECIALLY
true when your date ISN'T having a good time. I hate saying that I find
the date boring and the company worse. I will say something like "fine"
or "I've never cleaned a carburator before. It's really unique", etc.
If I like the man, but hate the activity I am more inclined to tell the
truth ("This music isn't really my taste but I enjoyed the dinner we had").
Mind reading is a tough problem. I am convinced that even if one could read
the other person's mind, you still wouldn't understand (motivations being
so different, etc.).
