Yes, Joe, I remember Sawdust, although I haven't read Dick Tracy
regularly in years.

Another example of a nested comic strip was Fearless Fosdick, in
Al Capp's Li'l Abner strip.  Fearless Fosdick was a parody of the
Dick Tracy strip.  Fosdick was always getting shot right through
the middle of his forehead (you could see daylight through his head),
apparently without suffering any loss of intellectual or physical
ability.  I believe he would describe the bullet hole as a mere
"flesh wound".  Li'l Abner described Fosdick as "Mah Ideel".
