The prefix 'ob' means 'against' (in a directional sense, as well
as figuratively), 'toward', 'in the way of', 'on account of', etc.
Thus,
	obloquy = speech against
	obdurate = hardened against
	obnoxious = harmful to
	object (v.) = throw in the way of [some notion]
