As for how boring SOANM (or "Attack of the Killer Bus Glitches") was as a book, not to mention a movie: the book had spectacle value. Sure it dragged, but the interesting thing was that it could be done at all. "Death in the Afternoon" probably made bull-fighters yawn a lot (I suspect, being Real Men, that they don't read novels, anyway) but impressed many other people. Of course, there might be an element of narcissism in all this... Michael Turner
