Title: Is flaming on the network effective?

It's getting rather hot on the network these days, and I wonder if
all of this flaming has any real impact, or if it is just a lot of
people letting off steam.  Has anybody changed a belief based on
something that they heard on netnews, or something that they read as
a result of a netnews item?  I don't know for sure, but I would
suspect very few people change their views.  If you have changed a
belief send me mail (DON'T POST IT!).  By belief, I mean how you
feel on a significant issue, like religion, abortion, social
security, etc.  By change, I mean really change (like today I
believe in god because of something I saw in net.misc).

I will post a summary of how many people changed on what views to
the net.  Maybe it will discourage people from trying to convert
eachother and encourage open discussion.
