Title: A 4-track recorder

I am in the market (assuming economic feasibility) for a 4-track recorder.
By that I mean something that is capable of recording 4 parallel tracks of
sound, with the ability to 'simul-sync' (the ability to play back certain
tracks while recording on other tracks at the same time).

A few years ago, I heard about a TEAC/Tascam cassette deck that had these
features. I have not followed the industry very closely in the last couple
of years, and I assume there have been advancements in this area. I do not
require cassette technology, only a good cost/performance ratio for 4-track
simul-sync capability. (Although I am attracted by the size and convenience
of cassettes.)

If anyone has experience is this area (I would love to hear from someone who
has used such a deck, telling me what to look for/look out for), I would
be deeply endebted. Thanks... I will summarize to the net.
