From: utzoo!decvax!cwruecmp!ordy Newsgroups: net.bugs.2bsd Title: RL02 booting Article-I.D.: cwruecmp.133 Posted: Wed Sep 22 00:41:24 1982 Received: Wed Sep 22 07:11:24 1982 I have an 11/44 (3/4 meg.) with RL02's and TS11 tape. I have had 2.8 up for about a month with no problems (after getting it going). I now find as I am trying to rearrange the kernel again that the boot programs are sensitive to name/physical blocks of the booted system! That is I can boot '/unix', but if I copy /unix to '/nunix' (or anything else), it won't boot, even though the executable is obviously (by the copy) the same. The renamed system panics in iinit with a Data Late disk error. My guess is that the 'funky' RL02 is left in a state where it sometimes does not work depending on the previous command. In addition, recompiling the boot program (1kboot) produces an executable which is different, and in fact does not appear to work like the distributed binary. Any mailed help/suggestions would be appreciated. In addition, has anybody upgraded the 2.81 RL02 driver with overlapped seeks to actually work with 2.81??? Small changes are required, but I just as soon not do it if somebody has already made the changes. Greg Ordy (decvax!cwruecmp!ordy)
