There have been many non-humourous items passing themselves off as jokes
lately. Many of them say "Ha Ha" at the end to let us know that they
are funny.

Before submitting a joke to the net tell it to those around you. If
they don't laugh, neither will we, and you shouldn't post the joke.
Of course, if you keep doing this to your friends, you will lose them
and have nobody to test your jokes on.

I propose that all jokes be screened by a committee using a calibrated
laugh meter. They can be given a rating which must appear in the header.
Then the rest of us can be spared. There may be a need for two scales -
one for drunken college students and one for the rest of us (their
future employers) since there are jokes which they find funny (the same
ones that we used to find funny) and we have outgrown. The rating can
also include information on the general content of the joke such as:
7(Extra Gross), 3+(Mentions Ethnic Groups), 10(Need PhD to Understand)

By the way - some of the above was meant to be funny. You figure out
which.
