Indeed, I have received many responses to my 'joke' about the Newfie
pub. I was not amazed about the strange liquor laws; I grew up in Ohio
where hard liquor is sold in State stores during banker's hours, and
you can only buy 3.2% beer on sundays; the business with minors serving
and accepting payment for alcoholic beverages holds there, too. I've
also spent time in Tennessee and Kentucky with their dry counties (what
a crock!). The human race is extremely paranoid and at the same time
hypocritical about alcohol.

What amazed me about the story was not the attitude towards alcohol,
but the fact that 43 people could change the statutes of the whole
province.
