There is a program called "indent" which comes as part of James Gosling's
Emacs distribution. It has evloved significantly from a previous
program, the author of which I don't remember. I believe James
basically rewrote almost all of it. Most interesting about "indent"
is that it offers some control over the style generated. Indentation
is a religious issue, and indent offers several different alternatives
in all the querilous cases. It actually tries to parse the code
to some degree, so it does pretty well.
