First off, I was impressed at how true the movie was to the book. Even a lot of the dialogue was carried directly over. When something was left out, it was left out completely. When something was added, it was so "Garpish" that it seemed like John Irving was personally putting in things that he wished he had put in the book. Does anyone know if Irving was involved in making the film? Mostly, the reason that I liked the movie (and the book) was that it really had thought behind it. I usually say that a movie like this has "consciousness". I found that it touched a lot of different emotions in me just because of its humanity. There have been a lot of good movies lately, but I can't think of one that has the sheer depth of Garp. I also couldn't say enough about the casting/acting. The portrayal of the characters really made the movie come alive. This was especially suprising because of the complexity of Irving's characters. Bob Stewart Bell Labs Indian Hill 8A-227
