The August and September 1982 issues of COMPUTE! magazine carry some
excellent articles on the Commodore 64 computer. They discuss such
features as sound generation (fantastic) and the graphics resolution.
It seems that you can decide how much resolution you need by setting
it for text, low resolution or high resolution. This saves screen
refresh memory if you don't really need high resolution. The color
generation is also quite spectacular I gather from the articles. In
general is sounds like an excellent computer for the money. COMPUTE!
magazine specializes in information and programs for Apple, Atari and
Commodore home computers. If you have a Vic-20, the magazine is a must.
