I agree the Newfoundland bar [er, pub] incident is a joke.
However, don't single out one Province in Canada. Consider
the following:
1) Just last night I went through the line in a cafeteria/
restaurant here in Oregon. I had a dinner and beer. A
young lady, apparently a minor, was working the checkout.
She totaled my order until she came to the beer, then had to
step back and let an older person add the cost of the beer.
Apparently the good people of Oregon feel that if a minor
were to caress the cash register's keys over demon alcohol,
she would be hopelessly corrupted for life. Mind you, she
isn't even touching the stuff.
2) There is a restaurant called the Iron Horse in Seattle.
While it has the atmosphere of a tavern, it legally is a
restaurant. One major distinction is that the tap for draft
beer is out of view of the public. (In this place, it is
inside a model train station.) Therefore, it is safe for
minors to enter the establishment. [Does the thought of
this country's youth being exposed to the sight of graphic,
bare, naked beer taps really keep people awake nights?]
