The information about video dating has been interesting, but
the topic of computer dating also seems like a natural for
discussion in this news group. To get the discussion started,
here is something you may not have heard about.

Several people have put computer dating programs on their
Apple computers and leave them to answer the phone when they're
not home. The machines are called "Dial-a-match" and can be
reached with any 300 baud modem and terminal. I got the phone
numbers from net.micro (I think), but would be happy to mail them
out or post them here if there is sufficient interest.

A friend (female) and I (male) have called into one of the
machines and filled out its inane "questionnaire". From the matches
we got, it is clear that there are a lot more males than
females in its date-a-base (clever, huh?). The machine we
talked to had about 750 people on file. We didn't take it
very seriously, as most of the matches were located in
California where the machine is (where else?).

I once went through a computer dating program as part of a class
project, but the sample was ridiculously small and the results
poor. Has anyone had good results with computer dating?
