[The Sierra RR runs from Oakdale to Touloume via Jamestown in the California Sierra foothills. Until a few years ago (when the freight operations were sold) tourist type steam passenger trains were run every weekend.] She said that Railtown (the Jamestown roundhouse and shop areas) and the passenger fleet (steam locomotives and cars) has been, or is in the process of being, bought by the state as a state park. The Friends of the Sierra RR is a group of people who are interested in the resumption of passenger operations on the line. Most of the group are residents and merchants in the Jamestown area. Their group was to have run a steam passenger special next week, but last minute problems have forced cancellation of the trip. Instead, there will be a picnic and wine and cheese tasting event to be held in Railtown next Saturday, 19 June'82 at 1pm. The grounds will be open to the public from 10am to 4pm on that day. She is confident that passenger operations on the Sierra RR will return in the near future. For more information call Gigi Bradshaw at 209/962-7008.
