(Actually 'were', since Volker went on to produce newer terminal designs.) The 404 is your basic simple terminal. If it works when you unpack it it will probably continue to do so for years. For obvious reasons, we have a lot of them here at University of Waterloo. However, check it over well first, I have heard reports that quality control varied. and some arrived in a non-working state. Also check the choice of action on different control characters. Most of them were made with control-x causing a clear screen, this can be very annoying if you are talking to a halfduplex system that uses control-x for line delete. Most of the ones the University bought had the option to use control-l for clear screen. Volker-Craig has now been bought by NABU but they still service their products. Like I said though, if it works when you get it it is not too likely to fail.
