Firefox -- Starring, Produced, and Directed by Clint Eastwood
The Firefox is the new plane developed by the Russians, the MiG-31.
It has all sorts of funky things on it, like thought-controlled wea-
pons, a "hide from the radar" device, and some other neato stuff.
It looks like a cross between an F-16 fighter and a X-Wing fighter
from Star Wars, and flies about the same way. A cute bit -- the
thought controlled weapons only work in Russian!
Clint Eastwood's plays a Vietnam fighter pilot (retired), who is
called back by the government ("you're the best there is"). His
job -- steal the Firefox.
The movie works through a boring series of encounters with the KGB,
which are enhanced by some crummy acting, Americans speaking Russian,
etc. All this just to get to the plane (he changes identities about
5 times). However, once he gets to the plane, the movie improves
immensely. We go through his escape from the hangar, a narrow miss
with some missiles, and a meet with a nuclear sub. Ho hum.....
In general, I would say see this movie, but put it down on the bottom
of your list somewhere. If you like Clint Eastwood, you'll be sort
of disappointed, the acting in this one is not at all very good. The
scenes with the plane are pretty neat, but nothing spectacular.
