In the aftermath of the recent Falklands conflict, a British general
was visiting soldiers in a field hospital.

Approaching the soldier in the first bed he asked, "What has put you
in this bed, soldier?"

"Piles, sir.", he replied, "Hemorrhoids."

"I see. What has the surgeon recommended?", the general asked.

"Stiff wire brush, sir." the soldier answered.

"And what is your ambition?", asked the general.

"To get fighting fit and back in the line, sir!"

Turning to the next bed, the general asked, "Why are you in bed, corporal?"

"Syphilis, sir", was the answer.

"I see. What has the surgeon recommended?", the general asked.

"Stiff wire brush, sir." the soldier answered.

"And what is your ambition?", asked the general.

"To get fighting fit and back in the line, sir!"

Walking over to a third bed, the general again asked the question, "Why
are you in bed, soldier?"

"Laryngitis, sir", whispered the soldier.

"I see. What has the surgeon recommended?", the general asked.

"Stiff wire brush, sir." the soldier answered.

"And what is your ambition?", asked the general.

"To get that brush before those other two do, sir!"
