Can anyone give me advice on microphones? Specifically, I would like
to record my singing group, an unaccompanied double quartet
specializing in music of the Renaissance. The recordings are to be
used as a rehearsal tool, and I need to evaluate the blend and balance
of the group as well as distinguish the individual voices. I would
also like to record performances, and for that purpose it would be nice
if long cable runs were possible. I will do the recording on an as yet
unpurchased cassette deck, so if the choice of deck is significant,
advice on that would be gratefully received as well. I will listen to
the recordings carefully through a fairly good stereo system (Dynaco +
AR3A), so I care about quality. I also care about the price -- I would
like to spend less than $350 for the microphones and the deck together,
but if audibly better quality is available for somewhat more $$, I'd
like to know about that too.
