The physics teacher mentioned in association with 'The Flying Circus of
Physics' is name Jearl Walker. He writes the Amateur Scientist column
in Scientific American, too.

THFoP is a fascinating book; probably even for people who weren't physics
undergrads (I was, so I'm biased). It asks questions about the physics
involved in >1001 things we see everyday. 

If you decide to try to get a copy, I would suggest getting the follow-on
volume, 'The Flying Circus of Physics WITH ANSWERS'. It can be much
more satisfying...
