In order to make advances in anything, whether art, science, or anything in between, one must devote oneself 110% to accomplishing that objective. There have been a few men in history who were able to excel in many diverse efforts (e.g., Leonardo da Vinci), but the vast majority of people who are noted for making major advancements in knowledge were deeply immersed in their fields; many were thought of as quite eccentric at the time...
