	(I never was sure which part of that phrase was the shortstop's name.)

There used to be (in the 1890s) a character in St. Louis who was known as
"Don't Give a Damn".  He earned this nickname by going to Paris just to
order a drink.  I believe, without checking sources, he was related to Tom
Turpin, the ragtime piano player.  The story may be found in "They All
Played Ragtime" by Rudi Blesh.
