CS covers an awful lot of ground; from Systems implementors, who really are creating another machine ontop of the one the EE people made, to AI researchers who don't care very much about machine OR system details, and in fact are only using the computer as a tool to study the human mind. I think that this spread is similar to that which used to exist in physics, before the more applied branches of physics came into there own as the mechanical and electrical engineers.
