Recently, as I was driving home through Madison, NJ, I listened to the
sound of the "diesel" engine that was pulling the train out of the Madison
station. The train was the 4:40 out of Hoboken, I believe (since it was
PM, the engine was pulling rather than pushing). I noticed that the engine
made a whining noise rather than the chugging that I normally hear. Are
they using turbines these days? The weekend trains still chug, so maybe
they are running a mixture of whiners and chuggers.

Of course, the non-chugging, non-whining, antique brown (usually) trolleys
still carry the bulk of the commuters and their WSJ's.

Can anyone set me straight?
