"the home planet of Spock and Saavik is Vulca, not Vulcan"

Eh? Where did you get that information? I've never heard it as anything but
"Vulcan" in the TV episodes and movies, and I don't remember seeing it spelled
any way but "Vulcan" in paperbacks, tech manuals, fanzines, blueprints, etc.
"Vulcan" is presumably the human name for the planet, given because its
climate is uncomfortably warm for humans. I don't remember ever hearing or
seeing the Vulcan name for the planet. (Maybe it's like Spock's legendary "other
name": very difficult for most humans to pronounce.)

I do seem to remember that when Star Trek first started, some of the printed
material referred to inhabitants of Vulcan as "Vulcanians" or "Vulcanites", but
perhaps somebody thought those were also difficult for humans to pronounce,
since they've been called "Vulcans" ever since.
