Xerox is not an acronym, but a name from greek methology picked by
a professor at OSU(ohio). I believe there was some god that had a
double, or something like that. The professor was asked to come up
with the name by Battelle Memorial Institute, the world's largest not
for profit research center. The Haloid Corporation brought their idea
to Battelle after Kodak, et. al. turned it down. Battelle developed
the xerox process in return for stock. Several years ago they made
254million bucks off the stock; not bad for a not for profit organization!

Al, the wonderdog.

P.S Battelle also developed such goodies as the copper clad dime and quarter
and Liquid Paper.
