The net.jokes.q/ug.jokes changeover has nothing to do with net-wide censorship.
The group has existed here for some time now, and we will forward it to the
rest of the net if they want it.  You're not being denied anything.  What
this DOES do is make it harder for innocents (secretaries or otherwise)
to blunder into the "questionable taste" stuff without realizing it and
become upset and complain.  To Ken, re management types:  In the case
that Mark Horton described (it's in net.news, if you haven't read it),
if the manager had been more knowledgeable about USENET or perhaps computers
in general, then it probably would have been less work to convince him
that net news was in fact worth having on the machine.  I doubt if he
would have been convinced that net.jokes.q should stay as it was.
A question you should ponder:  What happens if someone at this site
questions the use of University funds (read Government funds (read
public funds)) to maintain this newsgroup and forward it to other
machines?  How would YOU go about justifying its continued existence?
I don't think I'd try.
