It reads every sector and when it finds a bad one, it adds that CP/M "group" to a table of group numbers which is put into a dummy file at the conclusion of the run. The program does not write to the disk, only reads. By creating the dummy file, it causes CP/M to think those groups are "in use", this "locking out" the bad sectors. This public-domain program has been around for quite awhile, works on CP/M 1.4 or 2.2 (does version number test and then reads the disk parameter block to determine physical characteristics of the disks). It works great on hard disks too. The file is available from MIT-MC as AR20:CPM;FNDBAD 54ASM.
