Jacksonville is a metropolitan area, being the consolidation of Jacksonville
and Duvall (sp?) County. I remember well the first time I drove into JAX
on I-10 from the west. I'd been driving through 80+ miles of non-stop pine
trees wondering when I'd get to civilization. At the county line, I passed
a sign that said "Welcome to Jacksonville". It must have been another 30
miles before I saw anything I could attribute to a city. Whew, have they
got room to grow!

Nashville is also metropolitan (as of about 1964). Unlike Jacksonville (as
I remember it, mind you), Nashville is spilling over the Davidson County lines
into many outlying "bedroom communities".

As I recall, the area of Nashville is 507 square miles. Does this sound
right? How about Oklahoma City or Jacksonville? Whoever posted this question,
do you have the answers?
