Although the government doesn't censor material on broadcast TV before
it is aired, if the FCC gets complaints about something which might
be considered obscene, the station runs a good chance of losing its
license.  Thus the stations must foot the bill for the censorship, but
it occurs none-the-less.  I doubt that tv networks would have all that
much trouble finding sponsors for shows which are now normally censored
from broadcast.
