However, some people I know who are familiar with LA36's are strongly against the use of these devices. They told me something like the following: The LA36 runs at a normal speed of 300 baud, or a catchup speed of 600 baud. The motor in the LA36 was designed to run at 300 baud. If you run it at 600 baud full time, it will burn out long before it should (speaking from experience). So don't use devices that speed up an LA36 unless you have a cheap source of motors. I know nothing about the subject; I'm just paraphrasing what I've heard. I've also heard of similar devices that provide dot matrix printing, alternate character sets, and/or the ability to accept higher baud rates with character buffering and ^S/^Q handshaking WITHOUT causing the LA36 to print any faster. Presumably, these devices would have no negative effect on the LA36. Larry -------
