Article-I.D.: stolaf.398 Posted: Wed Jun 23 08:16:51 1982 Received: Sun Jun 27 22:55:56 1982 Some additional Gorey favorites: From Number Nine Penwiper Mews Comes really abominable news. They discovered a head In the box for the bread, But no one is really sure whose. An incautious young woman named Venn Was seen with the wrong sorts of men. She vanished one day, Then early the next May Her legs were retrieved from a fen. More of the like, including some in French and one about a baby sinking out of sight in a baptismal font, can be found in "Amphigorey," a large paperback published by I don't know who, but always available at B.Dalton's in Minneapolis--I would assume that it is available at counterparts around the country. It is a worthwhile purchase if only for "The Gashleycrumb Tinies," twenty-six innocents coming to early and horrible demises in alphabetical order ("A is for Amy who fell down the stairs. B is for Basil, assaulted by bears..."). For my money, the picture of Neville--who died of ennui--is worth the price of the book.
