However, chat is not the only such program available for unix. There is also cu (call unix), and we have a local program called dial, which probably performs similar functions. I will assume until further notice that you already have cu, and send you the documentation for dial. As you can see by the names of these programs, they are mostly used for talking over our autodialer to other systems, but they can both also be used over serial lines.
