There is an organization known as AMUUSE - Adult MIdwestern
Unitarian Universalist Singles Enrichment - that puts on
summer camps for singles. I went to two this year.
The first was held on the campus of George Williams College
on the shore of Lake Geneva (Wis.) and the second was at
at a Presbyterian camp in Saugatuck, Mich. on the shore
of Lake Michigan. For me, and most of the 100 or so others
at each camp, it was an extremely rewarding experience.
The best part was meeting the wonderful people there.
The age range was early 20's to late 60's and there were
about the same number of men as there were women.
Most campers were from the Chicago, Detroit, Milwaukee,
Cleveland areas. The only way I can describe the experience
is to say it was like being in an ideal community of single
people for a week. I found it very hard to leave and return
to the "real world". Each of us has a mailing list of the
others and I am finding myself writing letters and running
up my phone bill like never before.
Some of the activities:

encounter groups
discussion groups
creative movement.
dancing
PARTIES
trips into town for theatre, dancing
eating good food
beach
sailing
swimming
talent night

All of the activities were optional.

There was a lot of hugging and general closeness that most
people participated in. The atmosphere was very non-threatening.

Although there was some coupling up, that was not the
major activity nor was it emphasized. As I said, getting
to know some great people was the highlight for me.

I find myself counting the days to the next one!
If anybody out there is interested in more info, let me
know.
