Since this possibly interesting news group has gotten boring, I'd like
to ask about my own name.

It's Offutt.

We're reasonably sure it's english and it possibly comes from a minor
king named Offa in the 8th or 9th century.  We've been in central and
western Kentucky since at least the early 1800's which is not long
after it was settled.

Can anyone verify the above?  Does anybody know anything else about it?
Are there any other Offutts in the world, here or in Europe?

Maybe my first question should be, is there anybody out there who can
answer questions like this, or are we all questors?
