Occasionally (getting very frequent recently) when I power up my XT, it
comes up with the ROM Basic! If I boot DOS from a diskette in drive A, I
get DOS, but I cannot access or change to drive C: (hard disk). It says
"Incorrect drive specification"

The only way to get it to work properly is to run the diagnostics. After
it passes diagnostics, I can boot from hard disk (the diagnostics jiggle the
hard disk quite a bit).

I have tried *all* that I can think of (even reformatted the hard disk, used
limited partitions of the disk etc.) with no success. The machine is still
under warranty, but I would like to know whats wrong before I make a warranty
claim.

Could anyone tell me whats up? I am suspecting the disk controller. Does that
make sense?

(If I run FDISK from the floppy, it says something like "Error reading hard
disk". Only once did I get an error message from the diagnostics, but I
forgot to note it, and have not been able to duplicate it.)

Thanks
