Better still, add them and make all AppleWin disk drives accept any size disk image (DSK, DO {DOS 3.x and/or ProDOS8}, PO, HDV); and, add control-panel buttons for swapping the two drives in each slot (S5, S6, & S7: D1 x D2; maybe shift F# for slot-# drive-swap).

Also, there is another emulator that has ROM images that allow one to assign different devices to each slot; but, it limits the choices to certain functions per slot. If one could assign specific ROM images (along with their function) to any slot one wants (0~7) and can imagine (8~15--Like in a Mountain Hardware Slot Expansion Box; or, like on a GS; maybe?), this would make AppleWin the GREATEST Apple II/+/e emulator out there, more useful (on any modern Windows PC) than the original (real) Apple hardware!

Another feature I have thought of is for AppleWin to be able to communicate with other real Apple II's via the PC's Audio system--Like ADT Pro--But, with Applesoft and/or 6502 Machine/Assembly-Language programs (on both machines) controlling (file/disk/HDD) transfers in either direction.

Yours truly,

James Davis

Hi James

Thanks for using AppleWin and the feedback.

There is an unofficial, older, mod that Tommy has done that adds a total of 4 floppy drives.
https://github.com/AppleWin/AppleWin/issues/141
https://github.com/AppleWin/AppleWin/pull/337

Unfortunately the current AppleWin slot configuration is hard-coded and official support for 4 drives is still off in the future. We are slowly moving towards a user-defined configuration. Part of the problem is that we also need to update the UI so the user can select what goes into slot 5 since a 2nd Mockingboard can occupy that slot. This UI work hasn't started since it will need to be scrapped in the future for a truly "Plug-and-Play" UI.

Please open a new issues for these _multiple_ wishlist / FRs (Feature Requests):

Namely:

* Slot 7 doesn't accept DSK
* Slot 7 doesn't accept DO
* Slot 7 doesn't accept PO
* Slot 6 doesn't accept HDV (Note: This won't work since Slot 7 is hard-coded to be the hard-drive controller card)
* Button for disk swap doesn't support Slot 7

It becomes much more manageable if we can track these independently -- and reference them from future FRs. Along with consolidating them as we move forward.

Aside, if you can please give an use case of _how_ you want the disk swapping to work amongst S5, S6, and S7 as that would be appreciated.

Looking at the bigger picture, if I am understanding you correctly, you would like a drop-down menu option for ALL the slots along these lines?

* Disk ][
* Hard Drive
* Mockingboard
* etc.

That way a user could select a non-standard config like this:

Slot 4: Hard-drive
Slot 5: Mockingboard
Slot 6: Hard-drive
Slot 7: Disk ][

It is probably more realistic adding Slot 5 Disk ][, and Slot 7 Disk ][ support first.

Are there any other slots that you "need" / "want" HDV support for?

Cheers
Michael

OK, but I don't GIT GitHub. It is too un-intuitive for me, hard to read and understand, and way over my head. So, I don't want to join it. I just want to tell everyone here, in this forum, what I think AppleWin needs, so that it can be (e.g., to be) easily set-up by anyone to duplicate their existing (Apple IIx) hardware systems, and so it can become (e.g., to be) more that just an Apple II/II+/IIe emulator with (so called) standard peripherals, something greater than the original hardware and software it is supposed to emulate, and a more useful tool on a modern computer. Kind of like a software version of what the Carte Blanche I & II are trying to be in hardware, Totally Adaptable, but still an Apple IIx (super) emulator.

If you don't want to read it here, and you won't use it unless it is on GitHub, then so be it.

I see (from the WASP thread) that you are using "AppleWin (v.1.26.2.3)".

This bug has been fixed. Please try the latest build 1.26.3.6 here:
https://github.com/AppleWin/AppleWin/releases/tag/v1.26.3.6

Thanks Tom,

Version 1.26.3.6 is listed as "Experimental" (Beta?). Do you have a link for the last "Stable" version with THE FIX for Pravets 82?

Not yet - hoping to have one available soon. I'll post here when it's ready.

(Windows 7 Ultimate {64-bit} Registry Entries):

;########################################################### ##########

1. In the "DiskImage" registry entries:

(a) I simplified the DefaultIcon (Default) by removing the quotes
[I may have actually added the quotes myself in the past!?];
(b) I specified the DiskImage\shell (Default); and
(c) I specified the DiskImage\shell\open (Default)
[that appears in AppleWin Disk-Image context menus].

NOTE: These allow one to start AppleWin by selecting to "Open with
AppleWin" any (5.25" Floppy, 140 KiloByte) Disk-Image file.
["Open" (alone) starts CiderPress on my computer!--Except for
binary (*.BIN) Disk-Image files; which do launch AppleWin
(but without a S6,D1 image, sometimes/maybe, when not a DI).]

Question: Are BIN and NIB Disk-Image files equivalent types?
