The WUTR had two articles on this. Other than lead solder being
phased out, it appears (based on Wikipedia) the information is
still relatively accurate.

For electronic/electrical work, it was critical to use the
proper flux and solder precisely, otherwise the connection would fail.

We were taught in shop that rosin core solder wasn't very good,
rather, to use a separate flux supply.
