First anime series of any new season are always a risk, and often incredibly bad, but the first anime of the Fall 2017 season, “Omiai Aite wa Oshiego, Tsuyokina, Mondaiji”, is something even beyond that. The title translates roughly as “The Marriage Interview Partner is a Stubborn Problem Student”. This is an echi three and a half minute comic short that is based upon a josei manga.
A young and pretty high school teacher is forced into a marriage interview by her parents who find the candidate very attractive and promising. The first get-to-know-you date is working out well, and the couple find themselves in bed together, but then the teacher notices a scar on the arm of her partner that she has seen before, and when she takes off his glasses she realizes that her marriage partner is not some well-off young business man, but a problem student in her school.
I watched a “discreet” broadcast version of the first episode. Apparently there are less discreet versions floating around. At three and a half minutes it was short enough and funny enough as a comedy-of-manners to come back for another episode, so I'll try out more and see where it goes. My initial rating is “B”.
