This will be a very short Summer 2017 anime Wrap-Up, because I only watched one anime to the end this season - “Shingeki no Bahamut – Virgin Soul”. (Sure, I was also watching “Meitantei Conan”, “One Piece”, and “Folktales from Japan”, but they aren't anywhere near wrapping up.)

I dropped “18if” after the sixth episode. It had fallen into the trap of trying to provide a weekly “anime pop-psych” solution to every girl's problems and had lost its edge. The bloggers who stuck with it felt that it became progressively worse as it went along, so it appears that I didn't miss anything. My final rating was C.

I dropped “Youkai Apartment no Yuuga na Nichijou” after the third episode. It was just too saccharine for my tastes. My final rating for that was also a C.

And the only other new series that I tried was “Isekai Shoukudou”, but I gave up on that after the first episode, rating it a C-.

So, what kept me going with “Virgin Bahamut” through 24 episodes? Well, it often had some pretty good action, and I liked the focus on the doomed romance between the King and the Dragon Girl. (I was in a real minority in liking that compared to most of the MAL crowd who also followed the series.) The ending did give a big opening for yet another sequel, but otherwise I found it reasonably satisfying. So my final rating was A-, although in other years when there was more competition I might have given it a B+ instead.

And the anime highlight of the summer for me was that I finally got around to watching the 20th Meitantei Conan movie - “The Darkest Nightmare”. It was Conan, it was exciting, and it was well done, so I gave it an A.
