hi, I have a Mac LC 550 (Performa 550) that I used to be able to start up
without any problems, but, the mouse died. I recently found a replacement
mouse, but now the computer doesn't seem to notice both the internal HD or
the Floppy drive... without the SCSI cable, I can't use my zip 100 drive to
boot from, and, when I purchased it in 2003, it didn't come with this
'Macintosh Performa CD' that the manual refers me to... how do I get it
running again? thanks

Well at the heart of this if you have read any of the posts on these threads you may have heard some mention of capacitors. The little tin can looking things on the motherboard. Your 550 almost positivly needs new ones installed. All the LC type motherboards from the LC to Quadra 605, performa 5xx series and color classics all have this problem now. Before you can do any real troubleshooting (I am guessing the scsi hard drive is dead also, as that is normal at 25 years of age also) those need replaced and a good motherboard wash to get the goo off of it and check for bad traces that may have been eaten through by the capacitor goo.

Anyone have one for sale or can give me any suggestions?
