The Spring 2017 anime season is winding down and the Summer 2017 anime season is almost upon us. So I am digging through what info I can find in the hope of finding some new anime series that will interest me in some manner.
But wait a minute, no matter where or how deep I dig I am finding new shows that appear to be terribly unpromising. There are more sequels to shows that I didn't like the first (or second, or third...) time around. There are shows that are based upon manga series that I followed for a while and then dropped out of total boredom. There are high school comedies, dramas, and fantasies that are indistinguishable clones of hundreds of previous series.
Does anything new appear to be the least bit different? (I'll hold off on wishing for originality, creativity and intelligence so that I don't dismiss everything being broadcast.) Well, one series so far:
“18if”. It's a Gonzo production (gawd help me) that is based upon, or being simultaneously released with, a couple of games. While the set-up isn't original, the visuals in the first PV are intriguing. It will probably turn into a magical harem show, but I can always hope for a little more.
Otherwise, as far as new series go I'll rely upon reviews from other folks and hope that something else is more interesting than the materials out there suggest.
And I'll continue to watch Meitantei Conan, One Piece, Folktales 2, Bahamut 2 and Sagrada Reset.
Gawd – why won't someone adapt “Ran to Haiiro no Sekai”, or “Imperial Guards”, or “Boku no Ushiro ni Majo ga Iru”, or “Voynich Hotel”, or “Sengoku Youko”, or “Otagi no Machi no Rena”, or “Renai Kaidan Sayoko-san”, or “Kutsuzure Sensen”?
