Right! Not a moment too soon. Apparently, some operators are using the do
not call list as a list of phone numbers to call.

I'd like to see him get jail time.

I'd like to see him sentenced to have to answer the phone 97 million
times.

10 seconds per call is just about right to keep this menace to civilized
society where he belongs.

They've been doing that for years. One guy who called smugly admitted using
that list. All that list does is give Congress critters a list of numbers
to call for their campaign robo-calls.

I was once supposed to go with a group that went to look at a local telephone
exchange, when the Strowger-type mechanism was still working. I missed
the trip, but one of the others said that the noise was impressive.

early 80s, IBM did vulnerability study of offsite remote access and
found things like hotel PBX were especially a problem. They
then did 2400 baud encrypting modem for home, road warrior, and
other access.

folklore is senior VP & former EE got early version and as part of
installing it, he check for current by touching contacts to his tongue
just as phone rang. he then directed that all phone jacks had to
be recessed so babies (and IBM senior executives) couldn't touch
them with their tongue
