Nope, don't think of it that way. Think of this as the best time to sell
your Apple II equipment, profit, and switch over to using emulators only.
That's win-win as far as I see, cuz that's money in your pocket + better
incentive to improve your emulator.

NOW, he tells me after I spend WAY too money tracking down some original disks and hardware for my Apple 2 "Shrine". :-)
Hey, how can I verify our emulator works if I don't have real hardware to test on? :-)
Maybe someday we'll see Laser 128 and //c emulation in AppleWin.

Funnily, the first Apple emulator I used actually emulated the Laser 128.

Yeah, The Cable Guy (a local repairman) told me a year ago that my Apple computers were worth a fortune, that they are now collector's items.
I have a spare Apple IIe with 2 Disk II 5.25" floppy drives, an Apple Monitor II, and a System Saver Fan, that I only want $300.00 for (locally), and I have been told that that is too much! I just want to get back the money I spent for it over 20 years ago. If I were to account for inflation, I would be charging 5 to 10 times what I paid for it, but I am not. Apple II computers are not like automobiles that depreciate. They are like homes, they appreciate!
I hope you appreciate that! (Pun intended.)

Hi Michael,
Yeah, The Cable Guy (a local repairman) told me a year ago that my Apple II computers were worth a fortune, that they are now collector's items.
They are like homes that appreciate! I hope you appreciate that! (Pun intended.)
Now, if I could just get AppleWin to emulate all the hardware I have attached to my real (original, not spare) Enhanced Apple IIe, I could sell it too, but then I would not have a real one either.

Yes, they may sit for a while as potential buyers are saying, "$200? Really?" and thinking two or three times about plunking down that much for testing the waters on a potential new hobby. But in the end, it comes down how badly you want something that most people not in the vintage computer or eBay worlds, discovering this old piece of junk in dad's attic, would just donate or toss.
I've (foolishly but curiously) started bids fairly low on several items I've recently sold to see what kind of prices the market would actually bear. That's how I let an Apple /// in good working order get away a couple of years ago for $230 plus shipping. That makes me a naive seller but it also shows the true market worth of these items.
Yet, when "everyone" begins their bids high like this, it spoils it for newcomers and enthusiasts alike, as well as sets unrealistic expectations for unknowledgeable sellers expecting to get maximum gain (not saying getting the most for your time is a bad thing) and not understanding why their $1100 Apple II+ with a missing power supply and banged up keyboard isn't flying out the virtual door. I mean... STEVE JOBS! RARE!.. right???
But the worst part is that this becomes the new norm for us buyers who truly want to share and use these devices but are stuck with the exaggerated prices because, "where else are you gonna go?"
So is that the true reality of "what the market will bear", whether we like it or not?
That's why eBay sucks, while I sit lusting after a new /// or IIc.

I think $200 is reasonable.
"I don't think $500+ is reasonable" he said after buying an Apple //c+ for $700 :-) I had to make an exception this one time because the chances of _finding_ a clean, working //c+ for < $500 is extremely rare so I jumped on that one.
But otherwise, yes, my soft cap is normally ~ $275 for computers.
But for a new hobby I could see definitely see north of $200 being a tad expensive for something that may or may not work!
It gets worse for software !!
Honestly, new users are probably better off downloading one of the many emulators but that might border on sacrilege for some. :-) I really wish Wine didn't suck so bad ...
> That's how I let an Apple /// in good working order get away a couple of years ago for $230 plus shipping.
:-/
OUCH -- that was a good price ! Thankfully, I have no desire to collect one. (For now.)
> But the worst part is that this becomes the new norm for us buyers who truly want to share and use these devices but are stuck with the exaggerated prices because, "where else are you gonna go?"
Sadly all too true. There is no real alternative of eBay for buying/selling Apple stuff. :-(
I _still_ need a Mockingboard for my //e but good luck trying to find any peripheral card that isn't a Drive card.
I'm getting fed up I might just end up building one.
What really chaps my lips is clueless sellers who show ONE blurry picture -- for a lot of hardware and software. WTF!? Show me pictures INSIDE the computer, and ALL the software included so I know _exactly_ what I'm bidding one because there is no way in hell I'm going to gamble $500+ on something that _might_ be worth it parted out.
