A few months ago bitsavers posted a System/3 components reference. It
is very detailed (200 pages) including assembler and I/O instructions,
registers, CPU process, peripheral devices, and is an excellent
historical reference to the innards of the System/3 (model 10).

It may be found at:
http://bitsavers.trailing-edge.com/pdf/ibm/system3/GA21-9103 -2_System3_Model10_ComponentsRef.pdf

Would anyone know accurately how popular the S/3 successor (i series???)
is today?

As Sheldon Cooper would say, there will be tests on this material.
