“Warau Salesman New”, aka, “The Laughing Salesman” is a remake of an anime series from the late 80s/early 90s that was based upon a manga from the late 60s/early 70s. The stories are deal-with-the-devil morality tales in which a mysterious and jovial “salesman” presents people who have personal weaknesses the opportunity to have their heart's content of whatever drives them. But if they accept the gift they are quickly condemned to a bitter lesson.

The two stories in the first episode were very simplistic, as was the artwork. There was no attempt at any sort of subtlety. The characters were tempted, they failed, and they were punished. It all felt like random malevolence. I can't see a good reason why I should care about the characters or the Salesman. So I won't be watching more and my final rating is C-.
