I am sometimes targeted by watch salespersons. I have to tell them
that my mobile, which I carry along at all times, does the job of a
clock very well. It is synchronized to within 4 milliseconds from the
network, it keeps dst by itself, it changes to new timezones as soon
as I land there, and it is watertight to 20 meters depth.

Now, get me a clock that does this.

The price is always more than what I pay for the mobile. And it is
yet another thing to remember.

Someone told me that in Los Angeles, if you are mugged, and are
wearing a very valuable watch, and _if_ they find it hard to
pull off, they will cut off your hand to remove it. I
find that very reassuring.
WhenIWasYoung, men had pocket watches, and seemed very proud of
them, having chains, very fine, festooned with baubles. I have
one somewhere.

I find that very unlikely.
