Where did ARM get their SIMD - vector - floating point name
of NEON from?

Is it an acronym?

Once I have the answer, I'll forget about it forever, but
it's nagging at me and won't let go for the moment

Correct.

We had a codename for an incompetent who kept setting off airbags. It
was Airbag although that wasn't the only reason. One of the worst
excuses for an engineer to waste air.
