Since many folks here have done this , do you have an opinion as to specific VGA monitor models that seem to work BETTER than others? Monitors with synch rates yielding a better resolution? Monitor models that for whatever reason JUST WORK BETTER??
Thanks for the input!!

i have found that Sony Multiscan Trinitron are the best way to go. You will need to buy a cable or an adapter, but after that it's smooth sailing.

I am not entirely happy with my Gonbes. (I have a http://www.microbeetechnology.com.au/vga-video-converter.htm which includes a front end to the Gonbes.) The major problem is the scaler; it doesn't keep track of the previous frame, so the area around movement like a mouse cursor is distorted while in motion.
The display around flashing text is awful.
Note that the Gonbes is designed for digital RGB (e.g. CGA), which is one of the reasons why I went with MicroBee.

Some older VGA monitors actually sync down to 15K. There are various web pages listing these.
The best IIGS ROM 3 display solution is probably the DVI converter from Nishida Radio. Check https://www.facebook.com/nishidaradio for availability.
A Gonbes alternative is an RGB SCART to HDMI converter. These are all over eBay for around $30 US. The model I have also has an HDMI input. Roger Johnstone describes how to build the cable at http://roger.geek.nz. He's still selling the cables so I ordered one. (Not cheap from New Zealand!) I think the display is pretty good. The major complaint about these converters is the lag time added for the conversion.
If lag time is a concern and cost is not (over £120), get on the mailing list for an Open Source Scan Converter https://www.videogameperfection.com/products/open-source-con verter.
