I'm going to make a case-mounted jack for USB sticks on my //e. It'll be a very simple connection to the CFFA3000 inside the case... I just wish to eliminate the dangling USB wire I currently have sticking out of the vents.

So has anyone gotten out the drill and done this? If so, where did you choose to place the jack? Or where would you?

I have a IIe with a character ROM switch up to the front of the computer. It is so handy to not have to reach to the back of the computer.

I would say the same for a usb stick. If your right handed, then front right under the keyboard. There is about a 45 degree angle to the bottom of the computer, so to get the plug facing squarely out to the front, a 45 degree bracket would need to be screwed onto the computer just under the keyboard.

At first I thought that maybe since most computer users put the floppy drive on either side of the computer, if the drives are moved to line up with the back side of the computer, there would be access to the front-right or front-left (depending if you are right or left handed) sides of the computer..

But if you are like me, I usually line up the floppy drives to the front of the computer to give better access to getting the floppies in and out.

The 45-degree angle bracket is a good idea. In fact it got me wondering if I could put together a CF card extender and route that to the front of the //e as well. And then I got the idea of trying to read the CF card through the USB with my Kodak 50-IN-1 Card Reader. It worked! Then I tried using the Kodak with SD cards and Micro SD cards... they work as well... I can browse the directories of SD and Micro SD in the CFFA3000 boot menu...

I tried with another multi-reader (Insignia) and the //e won't boot if it's plugged in. But the Kodak works great.

It makes my head swim with ideas for a front plate...

Very impressive. Hope you don't mind, but I URL'd back and your entire //e project is great.

I tried to use an SD adapter and also got the non-boot result. It was the first thing I tried with my CFFA and I was worried that mine was broken, but when I used a real USB stick it was fine. So, bump for this note for those future Googlers -- it can work, but often will not.
