I wanted to start a thread that people could add actual links and
information on downloading classic Mac OS system disks (and software). I
have done multiple searches on forums and sites and not been able to find a
single place providing this information. I am very surprised that Apple
does not have a straight forward way to download these the old versions of
the Macintosh OS. It seems like a missed opportunity to support the Apple
community. Good thing we have each other! ;-)

*Mac GUI*
http://macgui.com/downloads/?cat_id=340

MacGUI contains a plethora of tools and utilities for the classic Mac. Best
of all it looks like they have systems 0 through 7 in disk image format.
The link above takes you to the system disk page. If the link changes
search for "Mac System Install".

*Macintosh Garden*
http://macintoshgarden.org/apps/mac-os-install-cd-library

Macintosh Garden contains links to download many old Macintosh programs
including the above link for classic Mac OS CD images. At the time of this
posting there appears to be images for Mac OS 7, 8, and 9.

*Info-Mac Archive*
https://archive.info-mac.org/

Info-Mac Archive contains many tools and utilities. I did not see any Mac
OS images, but it is possible that they are hiding in one of the
subdirectories.

*Emaculation*
http://www.emaculation.com/doku.php/68k_software

The Emaculation site that hosts the emulation software for Basilisk also
has a number of tools and documentation for running classic Mac OS.

Have a great day!

They used to. Unfortunately, the trend at Apple is to emphasise current products, and to gradually purge references to everything that is no longer actively supported. Our 68K Macs have long since passed that threshold.

Consider, for example, the excellent PowerBook G3 Pismo - a masterpiece of industrial and ergonomic design, which most laptop makers of today could learn many lessons from. Apple seems content to forget all about it, as though it were an embarrassment to the company!

Ah ha! Found it!

https://archive.org/details/download.info.apple.com.2012.11

You will want to be in the
download.info.apple.com/Apple_Support_Area/Apple_Software_Up dates/English-No
rth_American/Macintosh/System/ section...not real pretty to browse, but if
you download the whole thing, probably easier to search that way. In 2013,
I snagged a copy of the
download.info.apple.com/Apple_Support_Area/Apple_Software_Up dates/English-No
rth_American section...glad I did, but also glad to find this archived!

I used a Pismo for a long time but when it died I could not get rid so I
still have it in a cupboard .

and I put the drive in my wall street thats even older I do have a g4
upgrade in the Wall Street though . apple system profiler in os 9 sees it
as a 700 MHz g4 but when I use the unpowered app that goes with the upgrade
it sees it as a 466 MHz g4.

still a great book though .

also thanks for the links theres loads of stuff there .
