There are plenty of movies out there, but only a certain niche is reserved for us sensational steampunks. What if this wasn't the case? Imagine you have utter control of all the movie studios, directors, and costumers throughout time. What movie would you want to re-do all in the style of steampunk?
Feel free to go in-depth on costuming, casting, setting, language, camera angles, and even quality of light if you want to. Morph anything about a film you like that would be better in steampunk, or simply would be interesting to think about.
Please include a still or two from the movie so we all can understand what you are talking about.
I'll go first:
Although I love how the movies addresses accidental voyeurism and criticizes the male gaze, I think Hitchcock's 'Rear Window' would be far more fun in late Victorian times, with more gadgets. The protagonist being a photographer would be a quirky way to make him the lovable genius, obsessed with forwarding the field and thus oblivious to the women around him. The women around him breaking all female stereotypes while still embracing and enjoying their femininity in even more of a stark and stylish way. The class divides would be even more clear, and a fun cache of vocabulary would make the whole adventure both more goofy and more tense than it already is. the scandal of spying on others would be more scandalous, and thus more fun. Also, imagine all the gadgets and gears! Binoculars, pianos, pullies, teapots, cameras, wheel chairs, glasses, cutlery, early electricity! It would be a spectacle.
