Well, I have had a MDD for some time (dying so I am now using a G5)
and have had no issues, but you might start here:

Hi!
Depending on the specific Radeon 9000 card, you may need to disable pins
3 and 11 for most G4 Macs that originally included ADC ports on the
original graphics card.
Read here:
http://themacelite.wikidot.com/pins-3-and-11
If it's the Mac Edition, you may still have to check its specific
compatibility. (G5 editions may not work on G4 Macs and vice versa.)
Drivers, if needed at all (Mac OS 9.2 and 10.4 support the 9000
out-of-the-box), should be available through the Wayback Machine or at
the garden.
Cheers,
Mac User #330250

Mac User #330250,
This is a sawtooth G4. The ATI Radeon 9000 Pro Mac Edition (128 Mb
version) should be compatible with the computer.
I looked at the article. There should be no need to disable pins 3 and 11.
The Macintosh Garden (what there is of it) appears to be mostly games
now. The rest of it has largely vanished.
The Wayback Machine (Internet Archive) has gone far too political for me
to stomach. So thank you for the suggestion, but not going there.
I plan to check with AMD to see if the software is still available from
them.
It is rather interesting, but a very large number of the old sites have
vanished without a trace.
Any thoughts?

Ken,
It's a sawtooth Mac.
The page of information from AMD/ATI at the web site on lowendmac goes
to a non-existent page now.
I will probably need to contact the AMD User Forum for help.
Thanks for your information.

How can an ‘archive’ be political? It’s like a public library, it doesn’t create content, it preserves content. You’re saying it preserves the ‘wrong’ content for your personal politics?
> I plan to check with AMD to see if the software is still available from them.
You’re about a decade too late. The minute AMD bought ATI, all the old ATI software was lost, the ATI website disappeared, you couldn’t get any meaningful response from AMD. You’re gonna be outta luck here, unless you find an archive site.

Welcome to the future. A PPC Mac isn’t going to help much here. For the price of Radeon 9000 Pro Mac Edition you could get an entire hackintosh that supports current software standards. I’ve been given free computers 10x as powerful as a PPC G4. From an energy usage standpoint, you could probably pay for a new computer with the energy savings alone. This is why LCD monitors replaced CRT so quickly, the energy savings alone paid for the new monitor, same as with LED lighting. A laptop provides the best flops per dollar/watt for normalized consumer use. Old 2008-2009 Mac Minis & laptops can run Sierra using Sierra Patch Tool for very reasonable prices.

Are special ATI drivers needed? I used this card in an MDD in 9.2.2 and 10.4.11 with no problems. I thought the drivers were in the system software. Am I missing something?

Glen,
No they aren't. However, I like to have all of the software and "stuff"
that came with with whatever I buy.
I downloaded the drivers and the manual.
From what I read on your previous E-mail the "adapter cable" is pretty
standard.
Thanks for your help,
Neal Lewis
