I acquired a g-5 desktop with these particulars Model A1047,2.5ghz DP- 2gb-400 ram..I'm new to this machine and uncertain to my next steps.  It came with no hd or OS .  I have installed a 250 GB.hd.  But I can only get to  the point where I have a question mark or folder on the screen. So I need an OS.Therefore I need to know if Leopard 10.5 will work, where can I purchase it and how to install it on a machine that has no OS system at all.Thank you for any imput ...Alex

Pretty straightforward. Leopard will work exceedingly well, although 4GB of
RAM won't hurt. Purchase a copy off either the LEM Swap list or something
like eBay; a fair price is in the region of $100US including shipping.
Tiger (10.4) will work and will be less expensive. Any DVD or CD copy of
either will be fine. Simply boot with the disk in the drive and the install
is very painless.

I would add that:
- Tiger is known to usually be a little faster than Leopard
- Tiger allows to run older OS9* apps in Classic environment (an OS9
emulator), although if you're new to the Macintosh you won't care about
that.

* OS9 = the MacOS previous to MacOSX.
OS9 apps cannot run in MacOSX (and viceversa), but they can run inside the
Classic environment.
