Subject: info on Commodore 8032

Hello;
I found your name on Dick Estel's website and write-up on Las Vegas
Commodore Expo 2016. I need some advice concerning my Commodore CBM
Model 8032 system which I bought new in the early 80's and used in my
bookkeeping business. It has been in storage since the early 90's. I
am trying to decide what to do with it. My husband wishes for me to
take it to a recycling event that is scheduled in our town this weekend.

I unboxed everything this past weekend and set it all up: 8032 along
with CBM Model 8050 dual drive and Commodore tractor printer 8023P. My
memories came back about how much I enjoyed working on this system and
what a fabulous accounting machine it was. I can't make myself send it
to the trash heap.

I considered putting it on ebay but don't know what to say about the
condition it is in and would really rather find someone who appreciates
these old machines and can repair them without going through the ebay
process. If you would know of someone, could you please advise them of
my machine.

I'm not looking for a lot of money; just enough to cover shipping
expense and maybe $250.00 negotiable for the whole set-up if that is a
reasonable price.

Here's my problem. I was sure it would still work so I plugged the
monitor in and turned it on. Yes! it came on just like 30 years ago. I
left it on and took the disk drive out of its box. Then decided to turn
the monitor off while I sorted through cords and hooked the rest up. I
flipped the switch off and within a few seconds, heard a crackling noise
and saw and smelled a light colored smoke coming from the vents.
Immediately unplugged it.

I didn't plug in any of the other equipment. Instead, I lined it all up
on a table, hooked up all cords and got out the accounting program and
all manuals (programming and equipment), PaperClip Word Processing
program and manual; propped it all up and took pictures for Ebay. Then
laid awake most of the night thinking about it all and not knowing what
to say now about what had happened when I turned it off. Kicking myself
about not opening the case first to see if anything looked amiss after
25 years before flipping the switch and turning it on. I know I would
need to sell it "as is" anyway and can't say that it works, but what to say?

I told my husband that I guess it is junk now and that we would haul it
to the electronics recycle. But last night I got online with a
Commodore search and found Dick Estel's website and your name. Today I
decided to open the case to see what it looked like inside. It is
clean; nothing looks melted or broken. There is no smell at all. I
know nothing about electronics but am wondering if the problem was with
the switch and could most everything possibly still be okay.

The exterior of all equipment is in excellent condition; isn't scratched
up and color still good on monitor and drive case. Printer case has
slightly discolored in two areas but not all-over. I just want to give
it a new home. I would greatly appreciate any advice you could give me.
Thanks.

We are located in Southern Illinois close to Fairfield just a few miles
north of I-64 about halfway between St. Louis, MO and Evansville, IN.
