“Drifters” is a new historical fantasy anime based upon the manga by Kouta
Hirano, the author of the “Hellsing” manga. “Drifters” is about a samurai,
Shimazu Toyohisa, who mysterious vanishes from the historic Earth of 1600 and
finds himself in a world where various historical figures, Japanese and
otherwise, are involved in a life and death battle.

The first “time drifters” that Toyohisa run into are Oda Nobunaga, who died 18
years before, and Nasu no Yoichi, who lived 400 years before Toyohisa and
Nobunaga. All three were transported to this mysterious alternate world when
they were just about to die on Earth, and since then little time has passed for
them. In the background unknown forces are manipulating warriors from various
times in Earth's history and bringing them together on this world where fantasy
and magic exist.

So this is another “stranger in a fantasy world” anime, but this time the
“stranger” is a veteran solder who finds himself with other veteran solders,
instead of being a teenager. The opening episode is gritty and violent, but it
also contains some rather out-of-place feeling humour (similar to that found in
Hellsing). If the series sticks to action it could be entertaining. I'll try
another episode to try to see where it is really going.

That sounds a lot like "YAGYUUJUUBEE SHISU" manga which follows
"Demonic Resurrection" and takes Yagyu Jubie to hell to fight previous
heroes such as Miyamoto Musashi. I don't care for the horrific nature
of the combatants, The title is translated as "Yagyu Jubei must die".
