“Time Bokan 24” is the latest re-boot of the venerable “Time Bokan” series. This
iteration is aimed specifically at kids unlike some of the other recent re-boots
such as “Yoru no Yatterman” or even “Yatterman 2008”. The new show tries to be
funny and silly but unfortunately just comes over as stupid and loud.

A girl from the 24th Century whose job is to find out the “true history” is
chased by villians from a 24th Century company that publishes the one “real
history”. The “true history” apparently is made up of many stupidly funny
incidents and people instead of what the “real history” tells. The Time Boken
girl has the job of finding out the “funny” history and the villains try to stop
her so that they don't have to re-write the “real” history.

The 24th Century girl crash lands in 2016 Japan and essentially kidnaps a 14
year old Japanese boy who is always late for everything. This chronic lateness
means that the boy is outside of normal time and can be a Time Boken time
traveller too. So he teams up with the girl and they go on their first mission –
to prove that Cleopatra wasn't a person but instead was a Hellenistic comedy
dual.

The comedy dual turn out to be inept, which is appropriate because all of the
supposed “comedy” in the episode is also inept, even by kid's show standards.
The villians show up to preserve the “real” history but they are defeated in
Yatterman style and then punished by their boss.

There was nothing vaguely appealing in the first episode, even by traditional
Yatterman/Time Boken standards, so I won't watch more.
