This post might have spoilers in it, so if you do not want to be spoiled
to a 26-year old series, avert thine eyes post-haste, you have been
warned.
I fully expected Jean and Nadia to get married. 22 is a bit young to
get married by today's standards in the US, Europe, and even I think
Japan, but by the standards of the time/place the story is set in,
Europe at the turn of the century from the 19th to the 20th century, I
think 22 was actually considered a bit old to get married.
Unless I am getting my characters mixed up, and I do not think I am, it
is a bit weird that Marie married Sanson. The show gave the me the
impression that Marie was between 6 and 8, at most 10. The show gave me
the impression that Sanson was at least in his late 20's, perhaps even
early 30's.
The age difference itself is not so weird as I think that was fairly
common in turn of the century Europe but in the show he acted more as a
big brother or even surrogate father to Marie than a potential love
interest.
