I've reached the final new Summer 2016 anime series that I intend to try out -
“Hitori no Shita: The Outcast” - which is a Japanese production based upon a
Chinese psychic-powers-fighting web comic. In some small rural town the
graveyard is dug up and a man's body is taken from his grave. As the police
investigate a young woman arrives and claims to be the granddaughter of the man
whose body was stolen. At the same time the grandson of the man whose body was
taken is on a bus on his way to the small town.
When the grandson arrives at the village he finds out about the grave robbing,
goes to the graveyard in the dark, is first attacked by the so-called
granddaughter, and then is attacked by zombies. But somehow the zombies are
destroyed by lightning and the next thing we know the grandson is back in
college trying to forget his visit to the village. However, the mystery girl
suddenly shows up and sits next to the grandson in his lecture hall.
The first episode of “Outcast” was a total mess. The writing was terrible and
the dialog was even worse. The main character was a total idiot and the
animators kept on having him do “funny” faces in serious situations. There was
nothing at all mysterious about the mysteries, and the comedy was as unfunny as
it could be. I definitely don't want to bother with more of this one.

Yes, the main character was totally annoying. I mean, really... he's lying
in a grave having earth shoveled on him and rather than climb out of the
grave he just lies there and yells at her to stop, on and on. Why do they
have main characters whine so much in an OP episode? Does that create
empathy in young male Japanese viewers? And we have yet another totally
emotionless character, only this time I don't expect her personality to
change later. I get the feeling her dry delivery is supposed to add comedic
value. And you can't sever a human body in one stroke with a meat clever.
Ugh... 25 minutes wasted.
