I've got two clamshell iBooks in my filing cabinet, and no idea what to
do with them. One of them has a dead HD, but I've got a replacement
part already lined up. All I need to do is install it (no mean feat),
and then reinstall OS X.

I haven't fixed it yet because I genuinely have no idea what to do with
them if I do. As it stands, I'm using a six-year-old MacBook Pro as my
main machine, and I'm really not sure what niche a ~15-year-old iBook
would fill.

Any ideas?

clamshell ibooks, for reasons that aren't at all clear to me, have
collectible value. Especially depending on the processor and optical drive
(last model supports 10.4.11 natively). There was even somebody installing
1024x768 display kits for them a few years ago. Basically, I see no
practical use for a clamshell ibook, especially at the native resolution of
800x600. I would ebay them to the highest bidding sucker or display them as
the collectible they are. That said, if you happen to have a mint condition
key lime one, what are you looking for for it, lol?

Linux.... BSD..... Writing machine.... Mine still gets email, plays mp3s, and plays basic movies, and I can update my old iPod with it.

How about using it as a music machine? I have an old MacBook that I use that way and it works fine.
