I just wanted to let everyone know that after about a year and a half of being down due to a hard drive failure, I finally got Cottonwood BBS back up and running. The user account file is still in tact, so if you had an account before it was taken down, you won't need to sign up for a new account. The only change is the port number, which is now port 6502. So the full address is cottonwoodbbs.dyndns.org:6502. Please give it a call! :)

Andrew hey I was just wondeing about your BBS so thanks.
Is this still Telnet?
Im trying to installl cabling for Ethernet to my house and at some point get a 64 Nic but money allowing.

I used to use The Wave but it doesnt support C= graphics, just other stuff I looked at Novaterm but it looks like it wont do Telnet.
Due to little or no support for Wheels and Wave I dont use it much anymore, I can always use supported software and support that?

Any suggestions for Terminal programs that support Telnet?

Terry Raymond

Terry, any terminal program on the C64 can support Telnet as long as you have the right setup. I use an RS-232 interface to connect from the C64's user port to a PC running BBS Server software. But there are other more modern methods as well.

But, if you'd like to call in "the old fashioned way", Cottonwood BBS is also now accessible via dial-up at 951-652-1690.

I don't have a landline phone anymore so Wifi is my only option so I'm trying to
use Ethernet.
Isn't there a Wifi C= interface too so I assume I could use either one.

Thanks

Hmm, why not set it up in an emulated C= system?

I hate to say this, but I usually blast past much of this because I'm an
Atari guy (last Atari BBS on Fido) and you're... well... COMMIES!

For some of us, the war will never be behind us.

Ok, I'm just kidding... Just wanted to throw it out there that with
BBSing, Lantronix boxes are a great solution. They act as modems but
work over telnet. The old retro computer doesn't know it's not talking
to a modem. ATDT bbs.sfhqbbs.org:5983 "dials" my BBS.

If you want to use a real modem to call a telnet BBS... there is a sevice
that handles that, but I alas don't remember it right now since I plan to
do that myself for my BBS.....

Emulation is for lazy people. If you want to run a real BBS but feel you
have to run it on emulation....... Good luck with that. Go big, or
http://127.0.0.1

Then there are those of us who no longer have our original hardware...

.... Tip: Never take a beer to a job interview.

EBAY is your friend.......

But seriously, any retro is good retro. Yeah, I'm kind of a "no
emulation for me" kind of guy, but I'd rather see emulated old school
BBS's than no old school BBS's. I'd just personally never run one. If
my Atari's all die and I can't replace them, then it's time to call it a
day.
