Chris,     I have the SCSI cable that allows that machine to run in the SCSI disk mode, you then could run to G3 series machine and USB, as an alternative you could use a SCSI cabled ZIP drive, and then shift the medium to a USB cabled drive to put the files on a more modern machine.  ReRoger Volk On 04/05/16, Chris L<chris.lobdell@gmail.com> wrote: I recently found my wife's old PowerBook 145B from college (don't ask how long we've been out of college) and to my shock, it boots up and is fully functional. This got me to thinking - what's the best way to transfer the data off so we can relive those glorious college essays. I started by purchasing an external floppy drive, thinking if I could transfer each file to a floppy, I could read them on my MacBook Air. Unfortunately, the PowerBook won't recognize any of the floppies nor will it format/initialize them properly. In addition, the PowerBook does not have an ethernet port (of course not; coax for token ring would've been cool but no) but I do believe the modem's functional.
Question - besides taking it apart and going through the hassle of adapting the 2.5 inch HD SCSI to USB via an adapter, mounting, etc., is there another way to get this data off? It doesn't appear the drive's working properly (since it can't format any drives but I could be wrong). Once the data's off, we will likely consign it to eBay for a nominal fee as I'd hate to see such a beautiful machine end up on the trash heap.
