I have seen the first 7 or so of these on Hulu that are available, but I
can't decide if I want to continue with it or not.

I first would like to talk about the dub/sub of the original.

I have seen, on TV, and other places, all of the original DIC/cloverway
dubs.

I enjoyed them, but my analyses of them is pretty much "an enjoyable
piece of fluff that lasts 20-some minutes" (in fact, that is my analyses
of most anime, unless it is an OVA, where the episode might be closer to
an hour).

As for the new Viz Media dub, I have seen most of the episodes, at least
that are available on Hulu, and my analyses has not really changed, "an
enjoyable piece of fluff that lasts 20-some minutes," even though the dub
is supposedly a more accurate translation of the original Japanese.

In fact, there are some things that I like better about the original
dub. The 2 biggest things are the following:

In the original, Molly's voice is not "pleasant," I suppose, but I do
give it credit for giving her some thing other than a generic anime dub
girl voice (GADGV), in the new dub Naru does have a GADGV, or at least I
think so.

In the original, Luna sounds like a nanny/mentor with her British accent,
but in the new dub, her voice is pretty much a GADGV, and she sounds like
one of Usagi's middle school buddies.

As for the sub, I could probably count on one hand the number of those I
have seen, but you would be very hard pressed to convince me that they
are somehow more than "an enjoyable piece of fluff that lasts 20-some
minutes."

This is not because I am a "dub snob," as many of my favorite anime do
not have dubs, at least as far as I know.

As for the Crystal sub, I gave the sub a shot, and made it through about
the first 5 or so episodes, then gave it another shot, and perhaps made
it through about another 3 or so.

Not sure about what the problem was, part of it was the art style as I
have stated before, but I just never got into it.

As for the dub, the artwork is the same, so that variable is the same.

I am not a "dub snob" that will only watch dubs, but I do prefer dubs
when they are available, so I like that aspect better.

However, I just can't decide if it is enough to stay with it for all 28
episodes, or however many Viz decides to release on Hulu.

For what it's worth. I watched the first dozen or so episodes of Crystal and sort of lost interest. I kept putting off watching the next episode and finally just gave up. I watched the sub and I agree with you about some of the voices. The art never really excited me either.

I may watch the rest of it some time, but it's not on the top of my list.
