“Reikenzan: Hoshikuzu-tachi no Utagi” is a comic action fantasy adapted by
Studio DEEN from a Chinese web manga. What is unique about it is that it is
being simulcast in Japan and China. What is not unique about it is that it feels
like a week parody of 80s and 90s comic action fantasy OAVs, blended with 1999's
“Gokudo-kun Manyuki”.

A youth with a special soul, and an attitude from hell, goes to enrol in special
training so that he can prevent disaster. Various other youths come along to
also prove themselves or get weeded out. Jokes are made like “you are reading
that kanji upside down”. A pretentious-sounding narrator attempts to make things
sound important.

UY and Dr. Slump were doing this sort of parody better 35 years ago. Reikenzan
isn't showing any good reasons that it should be trying to do the same thing
nowadays. While there is nothing offensively bad with this show it captures many
of the weaker aspects of similar parodies in the past while not bringing
anything new to the table. Therefore I am not following any further and my final
rating is C.
