From what I 'vaguely' recall, there is a tilting of the cartridge
that you want to read to give the cart power, but not allowing it
to be read in, then after powering on, you gently attempt to push
the cart the rest of the way in, and you should be able to read
the data from it at $A000-$BFFF, or was it $8000-$9FFF, not sure.
Trying to imagine, yes, the right cartridge slot would be $8000.
I also remember, vaguely, that it was not an easy task, either.

If you want to spend some money, you can use the Atarimax USB programmer to read carts:
http://atarimax.com/flashcart/documentation/

He also sells adapters so you can dump other carts, although, since almost every cart
has been dumped this is probably more for an educational exercise.
