Hi readers, writers and viewers,
I used to say in my reviews "Google is your friend", so I
felt I must notice this matter to the rest of you.

Found on Slashdot this afternoon.

An anonymous reader writes:
Following what appears to be a severe penalty, the popular torrent site
KickassTorrents has become pretty much unfindable in Google. Meanwhile,
the top search result in many locations points to a scam site that's
serving malware to its visitors. For now, only DuckDuckGo presents the
real site as a main result. With millions of visitors per day,
KickassTorrents is arguably the most visited torrent site on the
Internet, and has gained new users during the moments when the notorious
Pirate Bay has been offline.

Blazingly fast speeds there.

Try 110 baud teletype if you want real old-school.

LoL, I use to run a teletype machine using paper tape for message
transmission when I was still on active duty in the Air Force (retired
now). Yep we use to burn up the wires in the old days.

Well, the advantage of AltaVista (before one of the programmers fucked it
up) was that you could use symbols to enhance your searches.

+ would add words, phrases or 'grouped terms' to search for
- would remove sites with certain words, phrases or 'grouped terms' from
the search list
"" would group words into phrases, of course
() would make AltaVista search for terms grouped within 100 words of each
other (ie (strawberry... ...jam))

It was a very efficient system until someone bungled it and I don't believe
that anyone has matched or surpassed this method since.

(If someone has, please let me know)

Bad intro, Falcom. Very bad intro.

The first three are standard and were supported by every major
search engine for a while--DuckDuckGo supports them, and actually
Google does too *if* you can find the sidebar link to turn on
"literal" search results. The parentheses I've never seen before.

I preferred Infoseek, back in the halcyon world of ~20 years ago.
My old 9600-baud modem is still floating around somewhere.

All right, I'll have to try that. ^_^

Google is useful for some things but it's been getting 'snippy' lately. -_-

I'll be switching to DuckDuckGo if they keep to their 'no tracking' claim.

I haven't used it in quite a while but it was helpful in finding some
fanfics.

I'll likely try it again later today.

Thank goodness for high-speed internet. ^_^

(Curse the gouging ISPs, though) >_<

Could there be video sites beyond YouTube and Dailymotion? (O_O)

There was some bad stuff linked to most common English words so you got
hits to their sites with most searches.
