MANY years ago, when I worked at the University of Houston, a small
convention was held at the hotel. It was my surprise and pleasure to be
the person to see to Mr. Nimoy's needs. He signed photos and books for
about an hour or so when suddenly he slammed the pen down, got up, and
left. The person had referred to him as Mr. Spock and it was during the
time when Mr. Nimoy was having an identity crisis about that.

I followed him outside with his two security guards. Got his attention,
and asked if I could help him. He (of course) said no but I said "I can
understand your frustration. How about I show you around the campus for a
bit to take your mind off of what happened?" We went around to various
areas near the hotel. Basically making a circle until we were back at the
hotel again. Mr. Nimoy was in a better mood by then and he went back in
for another hour or two signing autographs. I never got an autograph as he
left before I was able to get over to his table.

The weird thing about that convention is just how many people I know now -
where there and I had no idea they were. My wife was there as a college
student, Candice Pulliene was there (the founder of Revelcon) and several
lesser known TV/movie people were there. Still, I'll always remember Mr.
Nimoy.
