David Young's OMNIMONXL documentation is correct in it's definition of
the last three bytes of a DOS file. This is confirmed by the Atari Technical
Reference Notes, and sector editing. However it should be noted this is only
true for non boot files. As boot files contain 128 bytes of data per sector
and must be contiguous on the disk. The number of sectors in the boot file
is contained somewhere in the first sector of the file.
I can not confirm any errors in Inside Atari DOS as I don't have it, but
from what I have heard wish I did.
Hope this helps!
