I am using an Epson RX-80 off my Atari 800 and it works *beautifully*.
I don't yet have a printer driver program for the RX-80, so I must
insert escape codes directly into my Atariwriter text files to get
stuff like expanded, compressed, italics, boldface, etc. Some of the
Atariwriter control-[letter] commands do work, such as paragraph,
center, flush right, etc. I bought my printer for $239 from 47th
Street Computers in NYC (the *best* price I could find anywhere!),
and bought my interface cable for around $50 from J&R Records & Tapes
(who also sell computers, etc.) also in NYC. I do not have an Atari
850 interface, and don't think I need one. My peripherals include
a disk drive and a printer. When I want to load or save from my
Atari 410 tape cartridge machine, I just unplug the printer from the
disk drive and plug in the 410 recorder. The interface cable I
mentioned was made by some outfit in the Northwest (Infocom? Infobits?
Microbits? something like that...it's home and I can't recall).
