Hello!

I got a second-hand Atari 800XL without the original power-supply. I tried to power it up for the first time using a PSU from my Atari XEGS console.

The Power-LED lights up, and thats about it. No video, or any reactions when keys are pressed. The connected LCD-screen seems to be activated for a few seconds, but no image is displayed from the composite output. (I have not tested the RF-output.)

Would the XEGS PSU be incompatible? I do not have the original 800XL PSU available.

Any tip on how to proceed appreciated!

The XEgs shipped with a 1 amp power supply.

The 800XL shipped with a 1.5 amp power supply.

I think there's a chance that could be your problem. An 800XL power
supply would be great for the XEgs, but the original XEgs supply might be
a bit weak for the 800XL.

Lots and lots of Atari power supply specs here:

Hello Michael!

Thank you for your reply. I will try to source a 1,5A PSU, and see if that resolves the issue.

Best regards
