Have you done anything with tape (on a stock ROM) that didn't involve throwing you out to BASIC if there's an end-of-tape marker or the user hits the STOP key?

Back in the good old days (pre-1980), pretty much nobody had disk drives because we all had tape. I'm working on some tape code for such a machine and am feeling a little hamstrung by the VICE emulator where I'm doing most of the development.

1) doesn't work with the Eastern House Software "Rabbit ROM". It appears to save the program. The tape counter advances a few digits, and there is some stuff in the .TAP file that doesn't look like what the Commodore ROM writes out. But then trying to load it back gives "CASSETTE ERROR!"

2) The VICE emulator only comes with device 1. Eventually I will need both tape drives, one for read and the other for write. If it comes to that, there's the actual hardware.

Many thanks,
Charlie
