Hi Everyone,

I'm new to the group (or I'm not sure if I've posted here before - it would have been a long time ago) but I have used USENET in the past, and Google Groups in it's most recent incarnation. Tonight I came for information and I am hoping someone will be willing to share (remember "Share what you know, learn what you don't?).

The article in the subject header had a few links to Star Trek 'niche' dating sites. I thought the picture of the fan in a wrong-color-of-gold command branch dress was the wrong one to put in - I suspect they used that one because of the measurements of the dress. I don't know what to make of the ratio claim, but what I am having trouble finding is a dating site that really is for Star Trek fans.

I did join one to see what it was like. The chat room was free (I certainly wasn't going to pay for membership when they wouldn't even tell me what I was getting) so I spent awhile in it. Comments containing anything Trek were met with the chat room equivalent of a blank stare. Then I remembered it: since I actually take the tremendous amount of time to read the terms of service, I remembered the clause that said that they combine members from different sites onto that site.

So I suspect we've got a bunch of people, some foul-mouthed but few rude, from several areas of interest, and possibly they just chat with each other, seldom actually dating each other. Yeah, my Google Fu is weak.

O.K., the plot thickens (for those who are still with me). I recently asked a woman in RL on a date. I had been flirting with her and she blurted out that she was too old. I responded by asking her out in a letter, telling her that she reminds me of my favorite movie star, who is Marina Sirtis. The two look quite a bit alike, but I suspect that the apple of my eye has not learned about internet dating.

I was going to offer to teach her how to do it if we decided not to have a relationship. Dr. Drew says that people are beginning to report satisfaction with internet dating, and I've always thought it was a good idea, not being good at generating "lines". Anyway, I came back to get my answer to find that she's on vacation. Doesn't sound good for yours truely, but if she's not interested in me, maybe she would be interested in putting herself out there, given a little help.

I was thinking with a 16:1 ratio, she couldn't go wrong. She'd have to beat them off with a stick, even. So, for those of you who aren't interested in scolding me for inserting myself in someone else's life (it might help to know we've been friendly with each other for years), does anyone know of any good dating sites where a woman who looks like Counselor Troi would be received with the red carpet treatment? Especially if I could get her to have the red(?) uniform made to pose for profile pictures in? Is it red? I'm color-blind, but I'm talking about the jumpsuit that ends in a "V" shape below Troi's neck and goes over her shoulders. This one:

Errata, because I've just been dying to talk to somebody about the shows I've been watching of late:

I was watching "The City on the edge of Forever" several times a couple months ago. Then my mom told me about "Mommie Dearest". Ouch! That's worse than the start of the Dr. Leah Brahms story arc. I read yesterday that the actress was unavailable to portray herself as Mrs. Geordi LeForge in the last Next Gen film ("Nemisis"), at the wedding scene, and they used Whoopi Goldberg opposite Levar instead. But "All Good Things..." had them married with three children, one in Starfleet Academy.

Oh, you know, that conglomeration of a dating site I was on actually did generate a few comments on which Star Trek is your favorite. I'll bet that question has been beaten into a sort of equine-shaped damp spot on the ground here, but my answer was that the different franchises are like your own children: you can't pick a favorite. No objections to that last night.

Anyway, I've been watching episodes every once in while, and noticing new things. This time, I'm choosing which one to watch based on what topics I'm interested in, and of course the shows never disappoint. Maybe I can post some observations and we can 'chew the rag' (ham radio term for casual conversation over the radio) about things Star Trek.

I'm reading "Star Trek Creator" by David Alexander. It's riveting.

That's all for now, hope to hear from you soon.

Sean
